Starting off this grow with an Optic 1 54w light suspended 12" over the plant, with a glass pot cover over it. Seems to be working out pretty well, as well as insulating the plant from the chillier than normal temps, as opposed to when using the 600w LED as well. With the Optic 1 only air temps are about 7 degrees cooler. 77-70. Also, the Rhizotonic was used as a foliar spray. It was mixed @ 14 ml/gal. Using my 27oz sprayer, that was roughly 2ml of Rhizo/27oz RO water. Day 2 8:13am - Switched plant to bucket w/ RO water and Canna Start (Maufacturers' dosages), and 4 ml Hydroguard. Ppm: 257 pH: 5.75 - added 1 ml Cal/Mag to the foliar spray. Day 3 7:45am - added 4ml (2ml/gal) Cal/Mag to reservoir. Seems I forgot that step in bucket prep. Plant looked no worse for wear. Ppm: 357 pH: 5.85 Day 4 8:00am - switched over to 600w (135 actual) Bestva Reflector series full time. Day 5 3:30pm - switching back and forth between lights, using them to adjust temperature in the tent. It's easier than wrapping the res in ice packs. Day 6 12:00pm - Switched plant over to a "normal" nutrient bucket. (reflected above) Looks to be liking the new nutes. ppm: 830 ph: 5.82 Day 7 (technically Day 8) - Switched plant to new nute bucket, the old one smelled of on coming root. New hoses/airstones, new bucket, and a new find tidbit of info about Bennie's going in after pH balancing. *Dont know why the diary will not save changes to temp that I input. Above temps are wrong. Day/night time air temps - 77-66f, Solution temp - 68-72f.

I have never done DWC before, but I do use RO water for my feed water and since I grow under LED, I always add some Cal-Mag at the very least. I don't think you want to use plain RO for very long, since there's nothing in it for the plant. I would think a mild nutrient solution of 1-2ml/gal would also be a good thing after she develops her first set of true leaves.

Day 8 10:54am - Plant seems to be responding well to the new bucket. I've seen significant growth in the last 8 hrs. Well continue to watch the res for signs of rot. Day 9 7:15pm. Another new bucket last night.. Seems an oversight regarding light leaks through hydroton might have been my problem this whole time. She looked, and smelled, good all day long... Deeper green than before. Day 10 11:52pm. Everything looked good today. By the end of the day they was a slight smell of rot coming from the bucket. Nothing really strong when opening. Added 4 ml of Hydroguard. Day 14 8:31am. Sorry for the hiatus, been trauma unit watching this GC. I seem to have controlled the rot in bucket, with the help of some Great White (love you), now just waiting for the roots to rebound.

Sorry about the delay in the updates, I seriously almost gave up on this plant. Chalk it up to my green-horn status and impatience. Shes doing much better now though, and Im pretty sure (read:hoping) that im past the initial hard part. Although, I will be LST, so I guess there'll be more butt puckering to come when that happens. As always thanks for checking out my grow, now on to the show. :) This week has shown a lot of growth and promise. So much so that I decided to FIM her on day 18. I treated the cut ends with a Q-tip dipped in H2O2. Had 0 problems. Thankfully, this week has been pretty easy, and relatively uneventful minus the FIM.

Working on getting this week updated. Ill be back with some goodness as soon as I get all my pics uploaded and tagged. And then here I am typing until the....ahh the word min. Day 24: if it's not obvious by now, I don't know WTH I'm doing. Removed 3 old/dead fan leaves that were blocking light. If I squint just right I can see a nicely laid over gal in there somewhere. Day 25: I'm concerned that my attempt at FIMimg hasn't worked. And with the LST that I'm doing there won't be enough "explosive" growth before flowering starts. I take that it's too late to FIM again, so any ideas please comment below. Thanks! Day 26: Plant looks good. Shes drinking a lot, but ppm hasn't risen but 10 ppm overnight. New growth looks healthy, and I seem to have cleared up my deficiencies by switching to tap water from RO. I let it sit outside for 24+hrs, and drop 1/5 of a campden tablet in each jug. (1-2.5 gal) Straight tap, for me, comes out @ 356 ppm. This last bucket I went 50/50 tap/RO since I was low on treated tap water. PPM was 256, which was a great starting point considering the ppm of my nutes and desired final count. 4:00pm: You can see the 7 potential flower sites coming through. I'm interested to see how the top turns out after everything we've been through together so far. *sniff* Day 28: Changed buckets again yesterday. No smell, but signs were pointing to some rot setting in. Weather changed drastically and jumped 25°, throwing my whole setup of overnight. Also changed out a shitty airstone, and trimmed 4 fan leaves that were blocking light.

It is hard to tell if you have any tops splitting off with the angle of that last photo but it looks like you may have fimmed the FIM. 😁 I think you may have cut a little high and not hit the main stem. I have tried to fim plants before but it was unpredictable for me. I just went back to the old school topping technique and I am more than happy with the results I get. Good luck with the rest of your grow!

Sorry for the hiatus, things have been hectic, as Im sure they have been for everyone. Im currently mass updating again, please bare with me.... So I started to see signs of rot again, for the umpteenth time during this grow. So, as a last ditch effort I ditched the bennies (which I probably shouldn't have been using anyway due to the synthetic nutes I run) and dropped in some H2O2 every couple days for a week. This, and straining the water for debris every time I checked pH (2-3 times daily), seems to cleared things up for the most part. I also dropped in some Canna PK 13/13 towards the end of the week as it seemed to be out of ratio.... and guess what, it seems to have triggered flower. Cool with me. :)

This week I fully embraced flower and started her straight onto the Flores nutes as she has always seemed to be a little rich in N. Dropped in a little Mammoth P (dont know if the early H2O2 would have negated this decision) and halfway through the week I added in some Golden Tree, and it seems to be working wonders. Ill continue on with this recipe not adding anything else. I think Ive found my my regimen for the foreseeable future.

Considering everything I've been through during this grow, I'm starting to feel like I've found my groove. I only hope that my learning by braille hadn't stunted this one too much. Although I do think she's looking pretty solid right now. Hopefully the stretch kicks in for a while longer. Day 44: everything is feeling/looking good to me. I wish I had the balls to Defo her more, but I think I've already potentially stunted this girl enough. So I'm just tucking leaves at this point, but in some places it seems almost detrimental due to air flow/space restrictions. Edit: bit the bullet and have her her last defoliation. Wish me luck! 😉 Day 45: she's bounced back from Defo. I don't expect anything spectacular to happen today, but you never know. Night: Well she grew into her new spaces quickly, so I took another round of leaves to open her back up a bit. Most likely my last defoliation. Do you guys have any thoughts on having "too many" bud sites? Or is that never a concern? Day 46: everything seems on track. Last night's defoliation went over like gangbusters. I'll not hesitate to defoliate this late again, it's seems to have done wonders. Should be quiet, but yesterday was supposed to be as well... Edit: took 6-7 leaves last night before lights off. Day 47: so I took some leaves last night, and she seems to have enjoyed the exercise. Shes praying like a champ, and stretching for all she's worth. I'll keep tucking, but with the stretch it might be hard to keep my canopy as even as it has been, we'll see. Day 48: I was planning on changing her bucket out tomorrow, so I decided to see how hungry she really is. I topped her of with some Flores, Terpenator, and Golden Tree. Her bucket stands at [email protected] currently. We'll see how she reacts to this change, and I'll adjust accordingly tomorrow at bucket change. Edit: seems last night's top off was a bad idea. I think the Terminator feeds my existing root rot issue. Made a new bucket, now v running DM Zone as well. We'll see how that works out.

When is the proper time to discontinue LST? I am still spreading and tieing down the tallest shoots, when should I stop, or release the tie down, or should I just keep them tied down the duration? Thanks in advance!

I continue lst all the way through the flowering stretch. As long as you can spread her out to keep opening up the budsites to light then keep up the training. It will help your yield and quality in the end. And you want to keep her tied down through the entire grow. Just keep an eye on your tie downs periodically and readjust them so they don't grow into the branches as they expand. Looks like you are set up for a nice canopy. Just try to keep them even as she stretches and she will reward you in the end. Good luck!

Day 51: been fighting off rot that has popped up again. Think I've got it under control. Defoliated again today, took around 10-15 leaves. This canopy has to be constantly opened back up. I don't know if I'm not spreading well enough or if that's just the nature of the beast. But she seems to respond well every time I Defo. Cross your fingers. Day 52: she seems to be rebounding. Uneventful day. Day 53: She seems happy. Gonna let her chill for a day or 2, and then probably a last round of defoliation. Can't wait to start seeing some buds pop up. Day 54: Still spreading, and new bud sites are still popping up. Older sites are forming pistol clusters. I'm guessing she's starting to hit full flower.

My question is concerning the use of LST, and it's correlation to longer than usual harvest times. It seems all the growers I follow whom train/defoliate their plants consistently harvest as much as 6 weeks later than what the breeder calls for. Any thoughts?

Not silks but I'll lend my own insight anyway; it may well be that those you follow are harvesting later than breeder recommendations BUT it's likely not due to a low stress plant training method. LST generally does not apply any kind of stress to a plant whatsoever - hence the term "light". It does allow for more pronounced branching and growth tip exposure thus, resulting in the plant growing outwards moreso than upwards. Respecting harvest dates in relation to breeder recommendations. It serves the breeders purposes from a marketing perspective to suggest that their strains are ready for chop after X weeks of flowering - the "X" being the shortest amount of weeks they've experienced. That said, I've personally found that breeder suggested flowering weeks are generally understated by about 1-2 weeks on average. It's important to keep in mind that the plants environment and limiting factors such as light type, power, ventilation, indoor, outdoor etc. will play a huge role in determining how long a plant will take to flower. The breeder recommended flowering times are more MINIMUM guidelines rather than a specific time frame written in stone. You also have to be careful here because everyone will start the week count for flowering at different times. I start counting the moment I flip the lights to 12/12 whereas others will only start the flowering week count once they actually see pronounced pistils post-transition. It very much depends and ultimately, the only true judge of the right time to chop will be the grower. This is why I like to refer to picking the right harvest time as more of an art than a specific "time". Hope that answers your question. Cheers.👊

I'll fill this shit in in the am when my snark is replenished. It was a very snark extensive day. Day 59: I've used some supercropping in the past week to keep some middle sites from getting too tall. I also defoliated yesterday a bit. Day 60: tempted to lollipop this girl, but don't know when the proper time for that is (especially since she seems to be on her own schedule). If not, another heavy Defo at the least. Day 62: More sites start developing flowers every day. I feel like I might need to prune again sometime soon. Edit: heavy prune/defoliation Day 63: looks like someone did her right last night. She perky and praying for light. I don't know if it helps, but I love seeing them happy like this.

I always flush a few extra gallons a week before flower. Helps get rid of all the extra salt. I also check my ppm runoff every water. If my ppms get to high I'll add a little more water than usual. Every water should have some runoff.

Short answer: when the plant has fully stretched. The typical answer is ~3 weeks into flower. During this phase, the plant has put out several buds along the stretched-out shoots. Lollipopping involves removing these side-buds from the bottom up, trimming off 1/3 to 2/3 of the plant's bottom mass.

So a couple of things have changed. Raised my lights (started to get turned up edges), added some Terpinator, and gave her a decent defoliation. Also, the DM Zone I started using seems to have done it's job. Prior to using it, the Terpinator would trigger a pythium bloom in my tank, but I'm running it now with no problems... so far. Shes still taking her sweet time flowering, but she has a lot of sites and I'm guessing that plays a part. She seems to still love stretching, and everything time I take some leaves there's inches of growth. She's keeping me on my toes, that's for sure. Shes a high maintenance gal. But then again throughout my life, besides concious efforts to subvert this phenomena, those are the ones whom I'm always drawn to. Day 64: She looks like she's really liking the Terpinator I added. I used the lowest recommended dosage. Maybe I'll bump that up next rez change. Day 65: She's looking really good, and she's filling out nicely I think. Id like to see her developing more buds sites, but I guess she knows what she's doing. Day 66: Yesterday I received my shipment of Real Growers Recharge. I didn't know what to expect using it as I am currently running DM Zone, but have been topping off water regularly without adding more Zone. Well, all plants seemed to have loved the recharge. GC is bushier than ever (trying to curb the urge to defoliate). Day 69: it's been interesting watching my res' since dumping all the Bennie's and activators back in. It's kept me watching. pH started to spike again, so I dosed with DM Zone and H2O2. She'll drink a lot of water, chlorine ppm will go down and Bennie's will kick back in. At least that's what happened last time. 🤷

I am using R.O. water with Cal/Mag supplementing up to 187 ppm. My question was when to start supplementing, significantly, past this point. Ive heard a week, 2 weeks. Just wondering what the conciseness is. I guess this question could also be broken down to "if you use tap water for seedlings, when do you start to supplement with Nutrients?"

Coming along. Don't feel bad about the temperatures resetting. It happened to me as well. Idk why. Been wanting to try out DWC myself. Good luck bud

@Huggomadd, thanks for the kind words. TBH, this is my second grow, my FIRST ended in me tossing a 4 week old, barely alive, Critical Purp out with the trash. I had only watched/discussed Coco grows with my friend. DWC is definitely a different animal. But I'm having a great time with it, so it's worth it. Thanks again, and good luck with your little ones as well.

I do know LEDs suck up the Cal.Mag Definitely keep it in your regimen when using RO (reverse osmosis) water. Don't know a ton about dwc... I'd use 2-3ml per. gallon. And maybe PPMs bumped up to 500-650 after the second week, but could depend on her genetics.
