MELs_Garden Third round with this wonderful strain.
After the first harvest where we put in 20 specimens and the second where we put in 4 that we trained and pruned, we're back for a third time to include it in our grow but changing our light substrate for coco. It's the first time we will grow only with coco, so we'll see how it goes.
Let's talk about Sapphire OG:
Indoor
Feminized Seed
Genotype: 15% Sativa and 85% Indica
Genetics: OG x OG
THC: 18 - 24%
CBD: Not declared
Height: medium-high
Flowering: 57 - 63 days
Yield: 400-600 g/m2
▪️ What are we going to use?
• Plugin-pro
• Tupper
• Teku pot
• 2l pot
• 11l pot
• Coco
• Cabinet 0.5x1x0.7 [x2] (m) (double height)
• 30w LED strips from Grow The Jungle (x2) [Per floor]
▪️ Fertilizers
We will try the range from Advanced Nutrients. This will be the first time we use these fertilizers, and we have high expectations.
The pH regulators will be HESI.
The magnesium will be from Canna.
Rooting agent for the seedling phase will be BioRhyzotonic from Biocanna.
▪️ VEGETATION
We hydrate 10 seeds in water with a few drops of hydrogen peroxide.
We move the seeds to a tupper with a damp paper towel and close it.
The seeds have germinated and we move them to the plugin-pro and to the growth cabinet with 18h light/6h darkness with the two 30w strips from Grow the Jungle.
Week 1
After a few days, all sprout and are doing well. Since we have quite a few seeds and good space, we won't hesitate to discard plants. 1 of the 10 that sprouted looked less vigorous, so we discarded it. We continue with 9, we'll see how many we end up with.
March 19 (March 19-25)
We transplant to 2-liter pots. The substrate used is a mix of coco fiber with janeco-light-mis from Atami in 50/50 proportions.
We perform a settling irrigation:
pH: 6.3 EC: 0.3ms T: 21.5°C
- 2ml•l of Voodoo Juice from Advanced Nutrients.
We leave them in the dark to recover from the transplant.
March 21
We turn on the light with the lec at minimum 315w.
March 23
We return them to the cabinet with the LED strips.
Foliar spray with 10m•l of Spruzit and 2ml•l of Tec-fort as a preventive.

They are stretching very well, at this rate they will catch up with the rest soon. We are differentiating 2 different phenotypes at this point. 1 with significant branching and another with a stick-like structure. Very happy with the result.

MELs_Garden From April 23 to 29
We have 9 specimens and by the end of week 3, two are already distinguishable. One is stick-like with no branching and has great central potential, while the other, however, grows with good branching and looks like a fir tree.
Then we have the exception, as is customary in cultivation, the classic RETARDER. This specimen has stalled in growth and at one node, it produced a huge bud out of nowhere and 4 somewhat round and deformed leaves. We'll see what happens.

We did a little defoliation, leaving the tip leaves and a couple of satellite leaves.
05/04/2020
We cleaned the leaves with a brush to remove the dust that had stuck. The plants are doing quite well, it started getting really hot yesterday and we've taken measures regarding that. The girls are quite robust, they have medium/small-sized leaves and are quite thin and pointed.
Today we changed the 600w sodium setup for a 315w lec setup with a bell-shaped reflector, to which we added a 125mm tube with an extractor (cold Tube) to suck in as much hot air as possible and maintain the temperature in the grow.
05/06/2020
Watering of 1.5l • plant, we've run out of nutrients from advanced nutrients so until we get new ones, we'll work with what we have.
4 Bachumus + 3 PK (BAC) + 3 magnesium (canna) + 1.5 Overdrive
PH 5.75
EC 1.91ms
T: 19.4°C
With the lec light and the direct extractor, we are stabilizing the microclimate. It was very hot outside today, and indoors we maintained temperatures of 24°C when off and a max of 28°C in the area closest to the light, while the rest stayed around 26/26.5°C, which is good.
Another week comes to an end and things are looking good.
The max temperature of the week has been 29.8°C and the minimum around 21.4°C.

MELs_Garden Week 5 (May 7-13)
I’m thrilled with this strain in particular, I love it so much that I think everyone should try it. This is the third consecutive harvest I’ve done growing this strain and it never ceases to amaze me. Every time I’ve gotten the "same" plant, all very similar and always good, I’ll keep growing it as long as I can.
11/5/2020
Changed the chamber to enjoy this delight. Temperature drop back to normal working parameters, everything’s fine.
13/5/2020
We did a watering with about 1.8l per plant.
1.1gr•l of biogreen flower boost + 4ml•l of Bachumus evolution + 0.5 gr•l of diatomaceous earth
pH 5.82
EC 1.72ms
T h2O 17.3°C
Since the leaves showed slight signs of early over-fertilization, we didn’t want to go overboard with the EC and instead of 2ms we left it around 1.7ms; depending on how they react, we’ll hit them harder in the next watering.
Temperatures range between 24/25°C when ON and 21°C when OFF. The minimums were 19.8°C and yet the maximums reached 29.6°C. Luckily, this happened at isolated moments and generally, we have pretty good parameters, although it’s quite humid these days and we’ll have to do something about it.
Lastly, the thrips, the thrips, the thrips, the thrips... they don’t give me a break... in the previous grow, I had serious problems and they significantly reduced my last harvest; it’s true they hit me hard and no matter how much I tried to do something, it was useless. After a good clean-up, treatments, preventatives, etc., it seemed like things were going well, but no, they lived on... there aren’t many and I’m trying to contain them with traps and diatomaceous earth, but you lift the pot and the plate is full...😖😖😖 this coming week we’ll do a good clean-up of the soil and plates to get rid of as much as possible so it doesn’t affect us.

MELs_Garden WEEK 6 (May 14 - 20)
They're just doing their thing, which is what they do best.
Since this is the first time we're working with coco, we're quite busy and not used to it, so we're making several beginner mistakes.
The EC of the substrate might be quite high, and the roots could be blocked, so tomorrow we'll do a root wash until the input and output EC is within optimal parameters.
May 17
We performed a root wash until the output EC was around 0.2 ms (our watering water). Since we use organic fertilizers, it's likely that there are residues left in the roots, so we'll do another watering with just water as needed.
May 19/7
They're still recovering from over-fertilization, but they're still working and doing what they do best. The smell is incredible and honestly very complicated for me to specify. In previous grows, I've gotten smells of flowers, gasoline, strawberry gum... last time a friend came to see them, and he said they smelled like chocolate... it's quite an experience 😌

Not much to comment on.. just sit back and enjoy.
These days the temperature has risen a lot and the humidity is off the charts... we’re doing our best to maintain this and nothing more.
A little watering with water but we’re basically just waiting for them to mature nicely. They’re resinous like champions.

MELs_Garden Week 8 (May 28 to June 3)
Things are heating up.
We had a few high humidity spikes reaching 70%, and one of the plants suffered from botrytis. As soon as we saw it, we cut out the affected areas (removing any suspicious parts or those that were in contact). We lost one tip and a couple of buds.
May 31
Last watering with water.
June 2.
Tonight we checked with the microscope, and they are almost ready. They're looking nice and white 😋

MELs_Garden Well, it's worth noting that this was our first time with coco, we had many varieties, and the pandemic situation. We made a lot of mistakes and learned from them. We had issues with over-fertilization and some thrips. But still, we are very happy with the results, even though this hasn't been one of our best harvests.
The cultivation, aside from the mistakes, has been very easy, and compared to other strains, it tolerates over-fertilization a bit better.
VISUALLY, the Sapphire OG has a great tip and then round, compact buds stuck to each node with some spacing between nodes. The ones we left the lower shoots on stretched out, producing some nice stones at the tips (they need to be staked or they’ll fall over). It's full of green pus, and sometimes the buds take on a purple shine. This plant is easy to manicure because the large leaves can be removed by hand, and the small ones are packed with trichomes.
The buds are dense, hard, and compact. When you grind it, you get much more than it seems; it goes a long way. It has that unique aroma, sweet, citrusy, with more complex notes, but when you grind it, the smell really intensifies. The flavor is very similar to the smell of the bud.
When smoking it, you notice it after a little while; at first, it doesn’t seem like much, but the high is progressive and gives you quite a bit of energy, more than that, a desire to do something (I don’t recommend it for sleeping). The thing is, it leaves you full of energy for a few hours, but then it leaves you quite relaxed, which is when you can actually fall asleep. I don’t recommend it for sleeping because depending on the person, the energy state varies a lot over time. There are people who have smoked it as a joint to sleep and have told me they couldn’t sleep. 😂😂😂
Not much more to say. I love this strain and this breeder. I will probably be back at MEL's Garden.
Thanks to Crazy Roots Grow for all the support and help shown, to Humboldt for this strain, and to growdiaries for this tool that is this platform.
Thank you.
Best of luck we had good luck with this strain last year, we also crossed it too make cracked sapphire one of our first strains, accidentally made and or this sapphire og self pollinated too make seeds, not only did I lucas make a strain, called sour citrine back crossed with indica pheno peanut butter chocolate from exotic, james made cracked sapphire.... my friend derrick back crossed it with peace maker but we decided to redo the cross, didnt work out
