Week One:
First week, using Biobizz All Mix, so no nutrients. I don't have root juice, as this is my first grow and I didn't want to get fancy.
I'm planning on introducing lst and nutrients from BAC next week, and I'll update the final height after this week is over. I'm only on day 9 after starting the germination. I'm a wee baby still!
Started with 4 plants, lost 1. Had to move the tent unexpectedly which caused some strain.
Love, peace and equality for all! 💜
Week 2 of our plant project went mighty well!
The ladies all started growing wide, although at slightly different rates. I'm thinking overwatering one of them may have hampered the growth and taken out a bit of the soil nutrients. The rest are doing very well!
I still haven't been able to achieve a stable temperature, and since my temperature and humidity controllers are currently stuck in transit somewhere, I fear this may continue for a while. Temperatures vary between 15c and 30c, which I've understood is quite a gap. The outside weather does have quite a bit to do with my ability to control the growth environment, unfortunately.
I've got the exhaust fan on low, and the bottom fan on medium to circulate air. I've noticed faint smells whenever popping into the grow room, and I can only imagine it intensifying over the next few weeks.
I am constantly fighting the urge to overwater, it seems like an age passes before the top inch of soil is relatively dry. I gave a total of 18L of water this week, for 3 plants in 7L pots. That seems low, but I'm trying to listen to the plants here.
My next grow I will definitely look into getting auto-watering pots or something similar. Oh, and we've been saying goodmorning and goodnight, including some sweet talking! I'm a changed person! lol
My advice? Make sure you have controllers for humidity and temperature before starting, combined with either humidifier/dehumidifier and fans/heaters. A small electrical rib-radiator with oil is more than sufficient, even for cold climates. In an emergency, boiling the kettle in the room raises humidity, and so does hanging wet towels in there. I've been struggling to keep the humidity above 30% at times. Curse this climate.
Oh, and I read somewhere that topping the pots with perlite can help keep moisture in the pots, if that's an issue! It's not here. But still!
Happy growing, everyone! And thank you for being a helpful influence in these times of struggle. <3
Time flies, and so does my leaves! The plants are doing great! Although they droop at night. I'm getting differing opinions on this, with conflicting solutions, so I'll just go with my gut and continue my current plan and care.
I did notice a few tears in the leaves, but I'm assuming it's simply watering gone awry and hitting the leaves at times. I've decided against LST for this, my first, grow. I'm missing quite a bit of gear still, so I'll make this my baseline. The baseline with no additives. no light distance changing, no trim or training. It'll be great, for science! Or for me. Who knows? *shrug*
I appreciate the input and advice I'm getting here, thank you for the awesome help with my babies! :)
P.S. THey've got names now! <3
Week 4:
In desperation at the continued humidity in the low 30's I've employed a kettle and hand-mister. Humidifier and temp/humidity controllers will arrive week 5, so still manually adjusting everything by feel. Great way to get acquainted with your plants, let me say.
I may have been under-watering and under-feeding my babies a bit, they seem to have turned very light green on inspection. Also, there's mild wind-damage from the fan being knocked down a bit and blowing directly on the leaves, as well as some burn damage from the hand-mister leaving droplets on the leaves. I've taken to mist just before lights-out to avoid this.
What do we think, community?
Love and stay safe! <3
Week 5:
Unity hasn't started pre-flowering, but Duality and Trinity have burst into the air and outwards. Well done, ladies! <3
The humidifier is managing to keep the humidity above 35%, but is struggling to reach higher than that, despite a pretty constant temperature now. Not sure what to do about that just yet, and a handmister every evening after lights-out seems impractical. Maybe something to consider for next growth would be a better misting system.
Plants doing good! Yay! <3
Love for all!
So, life went crazy for a bit there, but now I'm back! With all new nutrients and better conditions for the plants. Well, the two remaining plants. Duality and Trinity.
Of the two, Duality is taller but a bit lighter on the bud. Trinity is a bit shorter but very dense compared to Duality.
I'm seeing a some nutrient burn, and possibly Mg deficiency? I'm trying to get around it with the alg-a-mic from BioBizz.
Looking at the trichomes, they all seem clear with no cloudy to them as of yet.
Next grow will definitely be in a much bigger pot!
- Stay safe! <3
For a first grow, this was really simple. Unfortunately, I managed to kill one plant outright, then another refused to flower and is now outside growing bushy but not budding, a third got stunted and barely produced anything usable, the last one was a beauty, tho! All things considered and the amount of mistakes, abuse and errors experienced I'm absolutely satisfied and I'm sure a non first-timer would get all 4 plants to perfection.
Looking good! I wouldn’t worry too much about different grow rates of your plants. The two girls I have keep switching which one is deciding to grow faster every week. Now they’re equally as tall in week 5.
Per your temp and humidity I ran into a similar issue on not having those controls when I started, but managed to get my humidifier and heater before everything went on lockdown. I’ve seen other grows do fairly well in consistent cold weather, so I think you’ll be fine for a bit. I’d just recommend to set them up as soon as you can.
As for watering, my schedule for the first 4 weeks was once Sunday, once Wednesday, repeat. About 250mL of water per plant. They seem to do just fine on that schedule, so I think you’re solid on the amount you’re watering 👍
Now that my girls are bigger they seem to be drinking more, so I’m adjusting probably starting at the end of this week.
I dig the option of good mornings/good nights. I think the special ingredient is extra love so I’ll probably start doing that during my morning and evening visits.
Good luck! Cheers! 👊
waking up to the world. Brilliant strain choice and an excellent grower. Train her with lst. she will give you a great yield. any help needed , message or drop into one of my diaries. recently finished one of these runs. amazing grow. enjoy and good luck
@Stefling,no worries. we can get some great results from a little manipulation of their natural desire and chemical processes. We are effectively fooling her into evenly treating all her bud sites as a merristem. Providing we dont overdo the amount of them we push her to do, then we get plenty of thick main stems and no half sized secondaries. It also allows us to open her up to more light on her interior growth. Any growing tip that is getting the full lighting should end bigger. Defoliating as the veg period progresses is also a help if the leaf is blocking a potential site and cant be tucked behind another. They will regrow any leaf removed during veg so dont be afraid of hurting her growth. enjoy your growing and they will respond in kind.
@Ganjagrandaddy, thank you so much! I had a look at your grow and it looks amazing. I will definitely be studying your diaries. 🙂 I will start with lst, thanks for the advice.
Looks good my friend.
How much water are you using per water and about how frequently? I used about 250mL of water per plant every Sunday and Wednesday until they started flowering and grew a ton Then upped to 750mL around the same frequency. the girls seemed to enjoy that and that’s about when the soil would dry up which seems to be a good amount of days between watering.
As for your plants going light green, is that your new growth only? New growth starts light green as it grows from the center of the stem and gets darker with age to math the rest of the plant. No need to worry about those 👍
@Michigrown, I'm so sorry, didn't even see the comment! :o
I'm giving them a total of 10L every week, usually every Sunday. So about 3L per plant, per week, so about 475mL per plant per day. :) With this is mixed 30mL of B.A.C. Growth/Bloom, every third water pure water. Oh, and it's rain water, just for good measure! :)
The light green was one plant in particular, also the only one that hasn't shown signs of pre-flowering. It may have been damaged during the unexpected move of the tent. :/
The other two looks fine and great, I think! :) Tiny bit of leaf damage from the aggressive humidifying, but I've managed to raise the humidity and keep it above 40% for now. Not great, but it's all I've got. :)
Thanks for your time! :) :D
