Well gang........this is freaking boring.........nothing growing for three weeks😜😜
Lets get another auto run in before the summer months👍
Mephisto Genetics had me very intrigued after Skywalker run so I ordered a different pack, F1's so it could be unpredictable👌👊.........lets see what we can do😁😁
From Mephisto Website:
Genetic Heritage: Toof Decay x Sour Stomper
Seed Type: F1 Feminised Automatic
Project Introduction and Overview: Sweet ‘n’ Sour is a hybrid between two of our frostiest and most flavoursome strains. Expect a dank, fruity taste sensation, and a more than generous dolloping of frost across the flowers and fans - A great candidate for extraction works. Plants will be medium in size, indica leaning but with the potential for very decent yields. Enjoy!
************** Germination Week - April 4 to 10, 2020 ************************
Used rapid rooters for the first time and ended up finding out I don’t like not seeing what’s happening to the seed😃🤪
Soaked the rooting plugs in RO water with 0.5ml/L Rapid Start and 1ml/L Piranha. PH water to 5.8. Soaked for 6 hours.
Cracked seed placed into new hole on the side and stuffed back in with small plug from corner.
Placed into tray and filled bottom with plain RO water pH to 5.5.
Apr 4 - Into RO water and then into Rapid Rooter
Apr 5 - Still in Rapid Rooter........don’t like not seeing what the seed is doing😰
Apr 6 - Into coco coir
Apr 7 - wait :(
Apr 8 - wait :(
Apr 9 - she’s out.......😄
Apr 10 - last day of germination........she is out now and standing up nicely.
Okay.......so I don’t really like not seeing how my seeds are progressing and if they are viable.........ended up cutting her out of the rooter and putting her into coco🙈😂

***************** Week 1 of Growth From Seed, April 11 to 17, 2020 - Days 1 to 7 from germination **********************
*
Okay, we are off running now. Through germination and was delighted to experience 100% success rate👍
Excited to run this strain from Mephisto. It is supposed to be a couple of their strongest and fruitiest crossed. My Skywalker was a good experience and I could have ran her again but I wanted to try another strain from this breeder and see if there are some similarities......this sounded fun👍😋 Just popped one of these girls and will probably miss some timing but that is how the game works.......learn from this one with hopes of dialing in the siblings😀👍
Greater focus on VPD this run. Already pushing the humidity higher than I ever have with having controller set at 72% with temperature at 79 degrees. I have been reviewing the numbers and I have normally been close but it looks like I have to raise everything by about 10% and for a few weeks long😬😬😬😬😬😬 Trust the science and lets learn some more from this grow!!!
*****Daily Detail:
Apr 11, Day 1:
- VPD - 1.2
- 500ml first watering given with nutrients as listed. (minus Velokelp)
- pH water to 5.6
- Girl is up and looking like she is ready to go.
Apr 12, Day 2:
- VPD - 1.0
- 500ml feeding with VeloKelp @ 2ml/L, Piranha & Voodoo @ 1ml/L. pH to 5.6
- lowered light intensity a bit more.
- She is getting taller now. Seems to be speeding up. Still the slowest of the group.
- She seems most affected by too much light.
Apr 13, Day 3
- VPD - 1.2
- 500ml water with 0.5ml/L each of Piranha & Voodoo, Dual Fuel.
- 300ppm with 5.4pH.
Apr 14, Day 4
- VPD - 1.1
- 500ml water with Virtathrive and Piranha & Voodoo Juice @ 1ml/L, VeloKelp @ 2ml/L, and SensiCal @ 0.5ml/L.
- 210ppm with 5.5pH.
- She is doing well. Starting to see the first set of leaves growing a little odd. Both offset to one side of the pot. Good progress though little early to worry about some things.
Apr 15, Day 5
- VPD 1.0
- 250ml water with VeloKelp @ 1ml/L.
- 95ppm with 5.4pH.
- She was a little slow and little dark but she seems to be coming along. Once she strengthens up the bend should come out of her stem👌🤞
Apr 16, Day 6
- VPD 1.0
- 500ml water with Piranha & Voodoo @ 1ml/L, Vitathrive @ 0.5ml/L, Dual Fuel @ 0.5ml/L.

- Her second set of leaves are not as progressed as the other girls. Just an observation.
Apr 17, Day 7
- VPD 1.1
- Turned on flower light on UnitFarm this afternoon and they are happier.
- Dry out day today and no added water/feed, just misting.
- Let the medium dry out a bit and give a nice week 2 feed tomorrow.....they are ready for a little more nutrients now.
- Not a lot to report today. She is happier than yesterday and getting bigger......can’t ask for much more👍💪👌
*
***************** Week 2 of Growth From Seed, April 18 to 25, 2020 - Days 8 to 14 from germination **********************
*
Getting rolling on week 2. She is not growing super fast. Suspect I have gotten a little heavy handed with the nutes again a little early on. Keeping an eye though and haven’t been too far off.
Switch CalMag this week and going with GH as it has a 1% value for Nitrogen. Will be increasing the CalMag now as well. Will be getting ppm in the 500 range more this week. May start to introduce Sensyzime at the end of the week.
Keep moving the lights up and down trying to dial in between 18” and 30” and see how they react. Seems to be about 28” right now they are happy.
Playing with the VPD and finding that they are not as happy with the VPD up around 1.0 and rather happier around 1.4??? Happier meaning tips and looking like she is getting bigger. Played with humidity this weekend as well between 52% and 75%. Again, they seem happiest around 58%..........going to try that for a couple of days and see how they grow for the next few days. I feel they are alrighty slower at the high humidity. Not backing away for this but rather trying to read the girls🤪🤪🤪🤪
*****Daily Detail:
Apr 18, Day 8
- VPD - 1.1
- 0.5L feed with Vitathrive and Velokelp and Dual Fuel @ 0.75ml/L, CaMg+ @ 0.75ml/L = 575ppm, 5.8pH.
- playing with humidity up and down today.
- ready for a plain water feed and a little larger quantity to soak all the medium.
- not sure if tomorrow though.......might be a little wet yet in the medium.
Apr 19, Day 9
- VPD - 1.3
- 2L watering today with CaMg and Sensyzime @ 1ml/L each. 240ppm with 5.9pH.
- Had more runoff, that was the goal. Didn't bother to measure this though.
- Just trying to bring the medium pH in line and reduce some of the ppm.
- Things just aren't progressing as I think they should.
Apr 20, Day 10
- VPD 1.5
- dry out day
- lower humidity in tent to 55%
Apr 21, Day 11
- VPD 1.5
- dry out day, again. Humidity kept low.
- Added home made CO2 to the tent today.
- 2.5" tall only.
- wavy leaves so think she has battles some pH issues.......some sensitive than the other strains currently??
Apr 22, Day 12
- VPD 1.4
- Dry out day yet again but now raising the humidity back to 65%.
- tips back up today.
Apr 23, Day 13
- VPD 1.4
- 0.5L - P & V & Vitathrive @ 1ml/L, DF & CalMag@ 0.5ml/L = 410ppm and 5.9pH
- primarily calmag and something for roots.
- She has straightened out more today.
Apr 24, Day 14
- VPD 1.4
- 0.5L - Voodoo and Piranha and VeloKelp @ 2ml/L = 180ppm pH'd to 5.6
- tough week.......she battled over watering as a result of some over feeding last week.

Week 6 .......... Flower Week.........Days 36 to 42 from germination
Been battling a busy life along with pH issues this grow. Starting to get both under control😃
This girl has stayed in the fabric pot while two other girls were transplanted to plastic pots to help with the pH.
She is coming along the best of the four girls. She is growing up and took the high pH the best of the girls. Bud sites set and she is rocking now.😃👍
Little more detail:
Lots to update......working on it this weekend.

Week 9 .......... Flower Week.........June 6 to 12, 2020 ........ Days 57 to 63 from germination
She bulked up more this week and buds are swelling. She has reacted well with Massive and has increased her nodal spacing. Now she needs to work on bulking up more and filling in that spacing😀👍 Switched to Advance Nutrients Overdrive for the PK booster this week.......didn’t realize how much i still have of this and Big Bud so I brought them back into the grow this run😁 Overdrive is a great product, just been trying out a different line last two runs. As you can tell I like to use the supplements😂😂 and it gets a little pricey with the Advanced line. They have some killer products though with Piranha, Tarantula, Voodoo, Sensyzime, Bud Factor X, Overdrive for example.
A little more leaf strip at the end of the week to let more light into the middle of her. Focused on the leaves on the inside of her and left a number of the fan leaves on the perimeter of her to help with sugar production.
Starting to see some possible nutrient issues forming as she is aging and some of her leaf tips are starting to curl down a bit. There will also be some wind stress on this girls main stem. Red hairs have started so we should be less than three weeks to go and guess at roughly 2 weeks to go. Will be feeding next week but that might be the end......see what the week brings. Hope she will run another three weeks allowing her to fatten up.....hairs are still large and lot are still very white......time will tell🤞👍
Environment has been hovering at 79 degrees and 61 percent humidity for most of the week. Yeast and sugar CO2 in use.
Still feel there is going to be trade off battling the pH issues of the pots by feeding her 4.4 water and feed. I have to keep it that low to have a runoff of 6.6pH🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪 Going to start letting the pH drift higher the next couple of days though and give a couple of waterings at 5.6 to ensure she is taking up enough phosphorus and potassium.
Now to just ramble........this girl is freaking awesome!! She is the one that captures all my attention right now. Her frost levels are ridiculous for 9 weeks on an auto, in my experience🤩😃🤩 She is certainly at photo period levels compared to girls I have grown and with hopefully at least a couple of weeks still to go to improve.......DAMN!!! The Skywalker I have run from Mephisto were also crazy good for frost levels. Her buds are stacking up gorgeous and getting thicker. Still a lot of long thick white hairs so hope she takes her time and fattens up and not just starts drying and hardening up.......not yet anyway🤞 Her side branches are producing long thick colas and make you instantly smile thinking about possible yields😉🤞 She is one of the nicest plants I have ever grown! The resistance is crazy good as she battles though this high pH crap I have thrown her into. Believe it was an issue with too much Magnesium too early and the fabric from the pots. To battle that I have been hitting her and Killer Kush with heavy watering/feeding everyday at 4.4 ph!!!!!!. runoff from that is 6.7 a day later. As time passes after the feeding the pH is drifting up......heave feed to pull it back down🤪🤪🤪 She has been powering through this and growing very nice at 28” tall......perfect!!! So happy I have 5 more seeds of her. Awesome work Mephisto!!!!!

******* Week 10 - June 13 to 19, 2020 - Days 64 to 70 from germination **********
*
She is getting really close to harvest......around day 77??? into darkness next week I suspect.
She has been awesome but the damn pH has total screwed with the yield though as she couldn’t get the potassium she wanted to fatten up some more in weeks 9 and 10. They are going to be very sticky buds but the size will not be as big as if the pH had stayed in 6.1 to 6.4 range through flower......running mid 7’s is too damn high. Looking more into unfiltered tap water as another issue this run..........dechlorinated but not filtered........
More info to come.......getting pictures added in for now.
Little more detail:

********* Week 11 - June 20 to 26, 2020 - Days 71 to 77 from germination ***********
*
It is the end of flush week and she went into darkness on Wednesday night, day 75, for two days. Saturday will be harvest day and start and the dry process👍
She has certainly been going through the beautiful stage of senescence and her fade is gorgeous. The purples and yellows coming out are great......covers up the brown spots😂😂 Her buds are densing this week as we work on bring down the humidity. Running in the mid 60’s for humidity late in flower is a different experience and one that takes some getting used to. Bring down further to low 50’s has really helped to bring out her frost as well. Kept the humidity high to form big buds......now lowering to make them more sticky👍👍
I am feeling very strongly that the big part of the pH issues this run was a change in feed water. I have always used bottled RO water for all my grows, except outdoors, but this grow I switched to tap water. Dechlorinated the water with air stone and gave it 24 hours min before using. Wanted to save some money and tired of lugging bottles downstairs a couple of times a week☹️ This is worked out nicely and a lot more convenient. However, the city must be putting some crap in the water that is causing issues in my media and raises the pH after the watering. Out of the tap it is 8.4pH and 275ppm. Since ppm were not too bad in my opinion I moved forward without filtering the water.......oops🤬🤬🤬 Out of options on what is causing the issue, I switched back to RO water late last week........all the girls are happier!!!! F......missed the cause for weeks. Always learning from this plant and my own mistakes to get better every run😉👍
Also wanted to add a little more stress to girl to help push out some increased resin. I drilled a 5/16” hole into the main stem to cause her stress. I did this rather than trying to break a branch and will see how it goes this run. Sterilized a new bit in Alcohol and went for it. They went into darkness about a couple of hours later. Excited to see what happens when she comes out to get chopped😃😃
Little more detail......
June 20/20 - Day 71
- Rezin and Liquid Weight @ 2ml/L = 285ppm and 4.0ph
- 8L given to get a good flush
- Runoff in pots already were 7.8pH and 485ppm.
- after 8L water runoff was 7.0pH and 370ppm.
- she is 29” tall and 30” wide.
- tricombs still mainly cloudy.....review again in couple of days.
June 21/20 - Day 72
- Dry out day
- buds are firming up......squeezed a couple🧐
- temps are nice outside so tent able to hold 75 degrees and 51% humidity.
June 22/20 - Day 73
- Rezin @ 1ml/L = 120ppm and pH the water to 2.7!!!!!!!!!
- Given 2L watering.
- No runoff water and I am good with that as I want the low pH water to stay in the medium.
- She will be ready soon. Thinking darkness on Wednesday and harvest on Saturday??
June 23/20 - Day 74
- 2L plain water feed - 80ppm and pH to 2.4!!!!!!
- not excited about these crazy low pH numbers but doing what we can
- her tops are getting really pointy now and her leaves are very yellow.
- checking tricombs, I think we are done and tomorrow will be her last day so that I can take down on Saturday.
June 24/20 - Day 75
- 2L plain water feed - 80ppm and pH to 3.0
- Going into darkness tonight so this was her last bit of moisture.
- drilled a hole into the stem.....was going to do a couple of holes but not trying this method before I decided to leave it with one hole.
- into darkness tonight
So we finish up the week with her in the dark. Next update will be the harvest!!
Thanks very much for taking the time to review my diary!! Sorry for running behind often on this run.........everyone has had a busy life the last couple of months in the world and its been no different here...........a huge Kudos to all the Growmie‘s that are able to keep up with their diaries on daily basis on GrowDiaries.......its a commitment😃👍👍
Mephisto has bread a very nice girl. She is big and sticky and grown very well considering the environment she has been given. Battling the high pH and still turning out as she has is awesome and much respect!!!! Great job Mephisto, can’t wait to run her again.......just so happens I have several more seeds of her😃👍
In typical Mephisto fashion, this is a frosty girl! Her buds swelled up late in flower and frost came on early in flower. She smelt beautiful floral, early on, and sweet while growing. She was very resilient to pH issues i threw at her and she still grew to be one of the biggest this run👍
On top of the pH issues she also battled a broken branch early on in veg and finally just took the whole branch, she was happier for it. She grew into a beautiful Christmas tree shape as only LST was done on her side branching and the main stem left to go! She reached up to 28”, above the pot, a nice manageable height👌 She was just beautiful as she faded and looked gorgeous!!!!
The buds trimmed up nice with red hairs and have good bag appeal. She was easy to trim and all buds densed up.....only had the trim and about 10g buds for hash👍
She has a great taste and smell right now, fairly citrus moving into more sweet. She takes a lot of force in the grinder......a positive😃
Fortunate to have a few more seeds and look forward to running her again without the pH issues!!!! She can be a great yielder and I feel I missed out on over an ounce at least.....her size and shape should have yielded me in the 5+ range In my experience☹️ Great job Mephisto!
She has fought off all pest and environment issues and is very stable. She was switched to a 20 hour light cycle at mid to end of flower and she took that well and swelled further. Opened her up on the inside to the let the light in and she has rewarded with fat little nugs all the way down her stems!! She liked the LST and would push harder the day after being tied down.
She finished just a beautiful girl and she will be on a screen saver for a few months to come😃😃😃
@Med_in_Tropic,Hello Med!!!! Thanks for the message.....that means a lot to see a friendly comment :) There has certainly been lots of distraction around here so its nice to get back to some time with the community and our beautiful girls:)
I see you have been as busy as always with your many projects the last month! It will take some time to get caught up again :)
Cheers Med and hope Mother Nature is spreading the love on your girls!
Great to see someone else tracking VPD. It's tough to get a handle on. What tool are you using to calculate VPD? I have one calculator on my Android phone and a couple of Excel spreadsheets that I use. I've now managed and tracked it essentially through the entire lifecycle.
The recommended ranges that I've seen are as follows:
Propagation/Early Vegetative Growth - Low Transpiration: 0.4-0.8
Late Veg/Early Flower - Healthy Transpiration: 0.8-1.2
Mid/Late Flower - High Transpiration: 1.2-1.6
With an air temp of 79F and assuming a leaf temperature of 77F then you would need to raise the RH to 75% to get to a VPD of 0.63.
Getting a stable VPD is tough. I use an external thermometer and humidity gauge. That gives me a glance at the conditions before opening the grow space or tent. Just opening the door changes everything for a bit. I use a regular "laser thermometer" to measure the leaf temp. I just average the readings in my head, nothing special. What is your process for measuring the factors and calculating VPD?
Good luck with the grow. She young with plenty of time to recover.
@PrairieFrostGrow, more than "guessing" a humidity range, I really urge you to get a laser thermometer (like this one on Amazon: https://amzn.to/3ggGNGF. Not recommending this one, just an example.) This will really let you calculate the VPD.
I haven't slept well for a number of weeks, so I found myself checking the plants nearly around the clock. I too noticed how humidity spikes during the dark cycle, but I didn't worry about it! That's exactly what happens in nature. Sun goes down, humidity comes up. Once you are happy with the daytime results, then you might want to consider doing something different in the dark. Also, you might go to 20/4 schedule. It works well with and you have a shorter dark period.
Good luck 🍀🌠with the grow.
@BladeCutter,Thanks for dropping the comment Bud. Keeping an eye on VPD this run but also just learning more about the high humidity and how my environment reacts to it. Have found that pulling the humidity back down in the evenings a challenge with running it so high for 18 hours of the day.
I really noticed how in Veg they loved the humidity at the 70% range........hitting that 1.0kpa range and the leaves were up and perky!
Keeping an eye on them through Flower and see how they react to the 60 to 65% range.......again, I am finding it tough to bring humidity back down the 40% range for 6 hours while they are sleeping and transpiring. Have a dehumidifier and working with the settings to dial it in for a better understanding next run. Controllers are a must for temp and humidity when trying to keep the VPD dialed in.........I should have invested in ones that allow you set a different daytime vs nighttime numbers though as I change the settings manually twice a day everyday.
Cheers Growmie and thanks again!!
I have a SnS at day 10 and she looks like the mirror image of yours at this stage. I too was wondering if I was heavy handed with something because she does not seem to be as lively as the other plants I have growing.
@PrairieFrostGrow, she is looking great. I am a bit concerned as I just fed her epsom salts for the first time yesterday. I will monitor for signs of any issues. Otherwise this is one resilient plant. She took some abuse with my heavy handed LST and even being dumped on her head. You are absolutely right, a lot to be learned from this grow. Thank you for the update. Looking forward to more.
@Shielded77,my issues have been around pH personally. Narrowed it down to either an early feed with too much Epsom Salts and/or cheap fabric pots. Flushed her fairly hard early on and she is coming back now. This pheno seems to have taken the high pH well. Hovering around 7.1 in coco and just couldn't bring it down slowly........lost a week and a half in veg and then finally flushed her.
See you have not been without your challenges either........good luck on the rest of the grow and by not culling her you will continue to learn more about this awesome plant:) Cheers growmie!!
Hello from Russia. Your Plants look great! keep developing in the same spirit! If you are interested in following the adventures of weed in Russia, then subscribe to my diaries
@JinksyGrows, @ PrairieFrostGrow
Thanks for you kind comments bro’s.
You guys are giving me too much credits. Although I appreciate the camaraderie.
Happy gardening!
@JinksyGrows,Hey Jinks......Thanks Bud!!! Still have not opened up the tent yet today to see how they did in the darkness. I stole the hole idea from @Med_in_Tropic because I loved his fork idea from one of his last runs.......love it Med!!
Cheers Growmie.......your visits are always appreciated!
@Momgrowsthechronic, thanks for the comment! As a matter of fact I am.........won’t see too many outdoor diaries from me☹️
Your run is looking awesome....nice clean, tight setup!
Cheers!!
Thanks @toyahgerool, I have had good luck with frost level on plants from Mephisto! I wish an home grower could take a sample in for testing somewhere that is discrete and cheap😞 maybe one day😇
I freaking love your stuffy Bud!!!!!!!!
👌Nice harvest! Got a plant now which is exactly the same height, but at week 8, and grows similarly when it comes to the timeline. Hope to finish with the yield at least a bit close to yours. Great job!
