***************** Week 2 of Growth From Seed, April 18 to 25, 2020 - Days 8 to 14 from germination **********************
*
Getting rolling on week 2. She is not growing super fast. Suspect I have gotten a little heavy handed with the nutes again a little early on. Keeping an eye though and haven’t been too far off.
Switch CalMag this week and going with GH as it has a 1% value for Nitrogen. Will be increasing the CalMag now as well. Will be getting ppm in the 500 range more this week. May start to introduce Sensyzime at the end of the week.
Keep moving the lights up and down trying to dial in between 18” and 30” and see how they react. Seems to be about 28” right now they are happy.
Playing with the VPD and finding that they are not as happy with the VPD up around 1.0 and rather happier around 1.4??? Happier meaning tips and looking like she is getting bigger. Played with humidity this weekend as well between 52% and 75%. Again, they seem happiest around 58%..........going to try that for a couple of days and see how they grow for the next few days. I feel they are alrighty slower at the high humidity. Not backing away for this but rather trying to read the girls🤪🤪🤪🤪
*****Daily Detail:
Apr 18, Day 8
- VPD - 1.1
- 0.5L feed with Vitathrive and Velokelp and Dual Fuel @ 0.75ml/L, CaMg+ @ 0.75ml/L = 575ppm, 5.8pH.
- playing with humidity up and down today.
- ready for a plain water feed and a little larger quantity to soak all the medium.
- not sure if tomorrow though.......might be a little wet yet in the medium.
Apr 19, Day 9
- VPD - 1.3
- 2L watering today with CaMg and Sensyzime @ 1ml/L each. 240ppm with 5.9pH.
- Had more runoff, that was the goal. Didn't bother to measure this though.
- Just trying to bring the medium pH in line and reduce some of the ppm.
- Things just aren't progressing as I think they should.
Apr 20, Day 10
- VPD 1.5
- dry out day
- lower humidity in tent to 55%
Apr 21, Day 11
- VPD 1.5
- dry out day, again. Humidity kept low.
- Added home made CO2 to the tent today.
- 2.5" tall only.
- wavy leaves so think she has battles some pH issues.......some sensitive than the other strains currently??
Apr 22, Day 12
- VPD 1.4
- Dry out day yet again but now raising the humidity back to 65%.
- tips back up today.
Apr 23, Day 13
- VPD 1.4
- 0.5L - P & V & Vitathrive @ 1ml/L, DF & CalMag@ 0.5ml/L = 410ppm and 5.9pH
- primarily calmag and something for roots.
- She has straightened out more today.
Apr 24, Day 14
- VPD 1.4
- 0.5L - Voodoo and Piranha and VeloKelp @ 2ml/L = 180ppm pH'd to 5.6
- tough week.......she battled over watering as a result of some over feeding last week.
@Med_in_Tropic,Hello Med!!!! Thanks for the message.....that means a lot to see a friendly comment :) There has certainly been lots of distraction around here so its nice to get back to some time with the community and our beautiful girls:)
I see you have been as busy as always with your many projects the last month! It will take some time to get caught up again :)
Cheers Med and hope Mother Nature is spreading the love on your girls!
Great to see someone else tracking VPD. It's tough to get a handle on. What tool are you using to calculate VPD? I have one calculator on my Android phone and a couple of Excel spreadsheets that I use. I've now managed and tracked it essentially through the entire lifecycle.
The recommended ranges that I've seen are as follows:
Propagation/Early Vegetative Growth - Low Transpiration: 0.4-0.8
Late Veg/Early Flower - Healthy Transpiration: 0.8-1.2
Mid/Late Flower - High Transpiration: 1.2-1.6
With an air temp of 79F and assuming a leaf temperature of 77F then you would need to raise the RH to 75% to get to a VPD of 0.63.
Getting a stable VPD is tough. I use an external thermometer and humidity gauge. That gives me a glance at the conditions before opening the grow space or tent. Just opening the door changes everything for a bit. I use a regular "laser thermometer" to measure the leaf temp. I just average the readings in my head, nothing special. What is your process for measuring the factors and calculating VPD?
Good luck with the grow. She young with plenty of time to recover.
@PrairieFrostGrow, more than "guessing" a humidity range, I really urge you to get a laser thermometer (like this one on Amazon: https://amzn.to/3ggGNGF. Not recommending this one, just an example.) This will really let you calculate the VPD.
I haven't slept well for a number of weeks, so I found myself checking the plants nearly around the clock. I too noticed how humidity spikes during the dark cycle, but I didn't worry about it! That's exactly what happens in nature. Sun goes down, humidity comes up. Once you are happy with the daytime results, then you might want to consider doing something different in the dark. Also, you might go to 20/4 schedule. It works well with and you have a shorter dark period.
Good luck 🍀🌠with the grow.
@BladeCutter,Thanks for dropping the comment Bud. Keeping an eye on VPD this run but also just learning more about the high humidity and how my environment reacts to it. Have found that pulling the humidity back down in the evenings a challenge with running it so high for 18 hours of the day.
I really noticed how in Veg they loved the humidity at the 70% range........hitting that 1.0kpa range and the leaves were up and perky!
Keeping an eye on them through Flower and see how they react to the 60 to 65% range.......again, I am finding it tough to bring humidity back down the 40% range for 6 hours while they are sleeping and transpiring. Have a dehumidifier and working with the settings to dial it in for a better understanding next run. Controllers are a must for temp and humidity when trying to keep the VPD dialed in.........I should have invested in ones that allow you set a different daytime vs nighttime numbers though as I change the settings manually twice a day everyday.
Cheers Growmie and thanks again!!
I have a SnS at day 10 and she looks like the mirror image of yours at this stage. I too was wondering if I was heavy handed with something because she does not seem to be as lively as the other plants I have growing.
@PrairieFrostGrow, she is looking great. I am a bit concerned as I just fed her epsom salts for the first time yesterday. I will monitor for signs of any issues. Otherwise this is one resilient plant. She took some abuse with my heavy handed LST and even being dumped on her head. You are absolutely right, a lot to be learned from this grow. Thank you for the update. Looking forward to more.
@Shielded77,my issues have been around pH personally. Narrowed it down to either an early feed with too much Epsom Salts and/or cheap fabric pots. Flushed her fairly hard early on and she is coming back now. This pheno seems to have taken the high pH well. Hovering around 7.1 in coco and just couldn't bring it down slowly........lost a week and a half in veg and then finally flushed her.
See you have not been without your challenges either........good luck on the rest of the grow and by not culling her you will continue to learn more about this awesome plant:) Cheers growmie!!
Hello from Russia. Your Plants look great! keep developing in the same spirit! If you are interested in following the adventures of weed in Russia, then subscribe to my diaries
@JinksyGrows, @ PrairieFrostGrow
Thanks for you kind comments bro’s.
You guys are giving me too much credits. Although I appreciate the camaraderie.
Happy gardening!
@JinksyGrows,Hey Jinks......Thanks Bud!!! Still have not opened up the tent yet today to see how they did in the darkness. I stole the hole idea from @Med_in_Tropic because I loved his fork idea from one of his last runs.......love it Med!!
Cheers Growmie.......your visits are always appreciated!
@Momgrowsthechronic, thanks for the comment! As a matter of fact I am.........won’t see too many outdoor diaries from me☹️
Your run is looking awesome....nice clean, tight setup!
Cheers!!
Thanks @toyahgerool, I have had good luck with frost level on plants from Mephisto! I wish an home grower could take a sample in for testing somewhere that is discrete and cheap😞 maybe one day😇
I freaking love your stuffy Bud!!!!!!!!
👌Nice harvest! Got a plant now which is exactly the same height, but at week 8, and grows similarly when it comes to the timeline. Hope to finish with the yield at least a bit close to yours. Great job!
