So, long time no see! Past weeks have not been easy, fixing Calcium/Magnesium problems and now dealing with early Nitrogen deficiency... Some leaves are already falling off both plants, soft stems, yellow/brown-ish color and crispy dry feel. Good thing is only lower small-medium leaves were affected, big fan leaves are still there (almost no light, but still there). I've been collecting 3-6 leaves from each plant every day, at the same time, we're a bit behind on bud formation, so my guess is that this Nitrogen deficiency (which is completely normal on late flowering stages) came a bit early than expected. Also, burnt tips on almost all leaves from Lady #2, nutrient burn. So, for the start of week 8 I'm changing a little bit my feeding schedule, increasing Nitrogen levels (bumped FloraGro from 0.2ml/L to 0.33ml/L, bumped FloraMicro from 0.8ml/L to 1ml/L). We're on a nutrient burn, so I need to lower my EC right now! I'm targeting EC for week 8 at 1.2~1.35 range, so I'll decrease Cal-Mag (from 1.5ml/L to 1ml/L) and reduce PK until plant is past nutrient burn (reduced FloraBloom from 2ml/L to 1.5ml/L). For her last feed during week 7, after managing pH to 5.9, I ended up with EC levels at 1.25mS/cm. A couple of growers suggested me giving them Silica (Armor Si, etc) and some PK booster (Liquid KoolBloom) during weeks 8 and 9, any suggestions on this? Which PK Booster and Silica should I use?

Grow Questions

I don't have EC/PPM meters, but I know that I have hard tap water, according to my city water distribution company. Do I need to suplement CalMag on my feedings? How much should I use if I don't have PPM meters here? What are the risks of using or not using CalMag in this case?

Plants grown under LED lighting require more Calcium and Magnesium generally, even with hard water. That said, I have grown several plants fully under Quantum Boards without CalMag supplements, so it's not a complete nessecity. I use 1ml/L in vegetation and 2ml/L in flower. Your girls will spend about a week indicating that they need CalMag before doing anything crazy, so learn to listen to the living plants -- and keep a cannabis deficiency chart on hand for reference :) If left unchecked, it can lead to stunted growth and diminished yields.

When should I start feeding nutrients to my plants? They are currently at days 3 and 4, only with water (pH 6.0) Should I start slower or can I go straight to GHE's feeding schedules? What is the mixing order of nutrients? I'm using GHE Tripack Flora Series (Gro, Bloom and Micro)

Plant with 4~5 days old, kind of curly and tilted, plus a yellow spot in the middle of the leaf, is this normal or are we looking at a problem? Info: coco+perlite (80/20), 150W Led QB, 15L fabric pots, feeding her only with plain water at pH 6, 70~80cm light distance, any tips?

Seems fine so far, the real leafs will continue to open up and will look like single blade "normal" leafs. The spot is on the seed leafs and shouldn't be a problem. It doesn't seem to be stretching which is good, take a picture everyday and you will see your progress - first grow is stressful. Good luck!

How tall should seedlings be to be considered healthy and good? One of my plants (#1) did not stretch much during first week and I'm afraid this could impact on her growth on veg stage.

The height of the plant itself isn't an indicator of how well a plant is doing. Different strains and even different plants of the same strain will have different spacing between the nodes where branches form. Some have bigger spacing resulting in a taller plant and some have shorter spacing making them shorter overall. To judge how healthy a plant this small is in comparison to another plant you are growing to count the nodes and observe overall growth. Are the leaves a good size? If its a bit later in the grow when the plants are bigger, do the leaves have more than 3 fingers? Sometimes the number of fingers is purely genetics but if you know that plant has been putting out 5-10 fingered leaves and then all of a sudden it starts throwing 1-3 fingered leaves it can be a sign of stress. So with that in mind, both plants look to be at a similar level of growth and size besides the minor height difference. They both seem to have 2 nodes of true leaves formed and the smaller one looks to be working on its 3rd node while the other one its kinda hard to tell if it is. So all in all, they are both doing well and there's nothing to worry about so far.

Just before lights going on again, the temperature was at 21.4 Celsius, but humidity was at 76%!!! During day temps are 26 Celsius and 58~64% humidity. What is the optimal day-night temp/rh difference and how could I achieve that? Also, what are the risks with my current numbers?

Your RH will fluctuate with temperature even without adding water to the atmosphere. Warmer air is able to hold more moisture than cold air; therefore when your temps drop at night the humidity goes up. 76% is definitely on the high side but not a problem yet for your plants while theyโ€™re still young. I recommend you get a exhaust fan and either run it constantly, on a timer, or on a humidity controller set to keep things in the 45-60% range. 50% or less during flower.

There are some white spots at the base of my stem, and I noticed that lady #1 haves some red/purple stems. 5min into Google and I'm already panicking here. Things that I read that made me worry: Scales, Fusarium, root rot and other fungi life. Should I continue freaking out? ๐Ÿ˜ถ

Thats just the plant wanting to create more roots. If you wanted to add more soil they would grow roots.

Hi there, i'd go more into the direction of calicum when it comes to the rusty spots. The leaves look pretty dark green, so i hope that you're not feeding it a bit too much (or were at a point). Do you use tap-water and if so, do you happen to know if it's soft or hard? Do you add any calmag? I honestly don't really like the liquid PH meters, as they're not very exact. Simple to use and maintain, yes, but not very exact. I really would suggest to invest in a decent PH meter as well as an EC meter like the ones from bluelabs (the pens are great). Yes, it is an investment, but only then you know how much you feed your ladies and if it can be absorbed properly. Especially since your grow mentions "soilless" it's important to get the values right, to keep the plants healthy and happy until the end. happy growing!

Hi there, to me it seems like the start of a cal mag deficiency. Before adding anything first check your ph range. May be it is there but its not accessible, which will lead to more problems. So first of all check your ph and then if it is within the proper range then add cal mag. Boron deficiency or zinc or any other micro element deficiency is most of the time accompanied by more serious problems which would be seen. If ph range is within the proper range and cal mag is the issue, those leaves wont bounce back but the spots will stop.

Plant #2 started showing first pair of new leaves, but they are curly and with a single yellow spot. I'm guessing too much light, so I increased light height by 5~10cm, just to see if she's gonna feel better tomorrow. Do you think this may be caused by lack of nutrients? I've only given them water at pH 6, should I start with nutes?

@GreenBeanGrowMachine, I couldn't find anything to work as a dome for them, but nonetheless they're thriving right now!!! They probably very much liked their first nutrient feed, lighting adjustment must have helped too
GreenBeanGrowMachine
GreenBeanGrowMachinecommented5 years ago
@whoawhoa, i got the same light as you have , 60 cm should be fine . I alwayse place a little Dome over Them so they can adjust to the light and Stay in a higher humidity range. Spray it a couple Times a Day and after 3-5 days she Will het used to the light.

@whoawhoa, as long as the soil has no nutrients in it a 1/4 strength of nutrients should be just enough and fine!๐Ÿ˜€ Some of the best supplements at this stage are rooting hormones and root beneficial fungi like mycorrhiza. Remember your goal at this stage is to grow big healthy roots and everything above will be at its "healthiest" as well ๐Ÿ‘

Anyone noticed that plant #2 is missing a pair of leaves? ๐Ÿ˜‚ 2nd node has only 1 big fan leaf on the left side, right side has 3 leaves. Should I worry at all about this, or is it something uniquely random?

Hi, guys, any suggestions on how to handle those nutrient issues on Lady #1? I still couldn't recognize what is the problem with her, there are brown/bronze patches on some leaves, lowered the pH and increased P and K, but no success. My tap water is around 160ppm and I'm also giving them 1~1.25ml/L of Cal-Mag, should I give them less cal-mag? I don't understand fully the relation between Ca, Mg, P and K, if anyone could point me some good articles, it would be wonderful

Hey saw you mention working on a watering schedule and that you are growing in coco. With coco, you want to keep the media wet and not let it dry out for the best results and most growth. I water my coco daily from seed and never experience overwatering. Also, make sure you feed every watering.
souljasam
souljasamcommented5 years ago
@whoawhoa, its pretty dry where i love except in the summer so humidity isn't usually an issue for me. idk that the wet pots would raise the humidity to matter all that much.
whoawhoa
whoawhoacommented5 years ago
@souljasam, wow, nice! you must have a better environment than mine, maybe. I don't have much air circulation here and the house tends to have a high humidity (55%~75%), so when using a 15L pot and watering everyday until runoff, I'm afraid I could have some type of mould or other fungus that could end up slowing the growth. Anyway, I think that on this week, maybe on week 3, I'll have to water everyday as they'll be hungrier too ๐Ÿ˜
