Seedsman White Widow. Some freebies i got in my last order, I tried one in summer but it didn’t handle the heat, so I thought I would experiment late in the season. Both of the other seeds have sprouted and appear to be in good health. My plan is to leave outdoor until sundown, then bring inside under a work light for a few hours to extend the veg period. After a few weeks, I will leave outside for good. We have pretty good winters where I live, low temps here are only just into single figures (Celsius) and top temps are usually over 20 all winter, so I am half a chance of still getting a decent yield in 10 - 12 weeks. 🍻
White Widow is coming along nicely enough, one does look slightly better than the other, so interesting to see how this develops over time. Getting some great Autumn weather at the moment too. Cheers🍻
Week 3, widow was transplanted yesterday and went really well. I will finish out in a 6l pot this time cos i don’t expect them to get big in winter. I’m thinking a couple of days, then tipping, then after recovery, leaving outdoor to go into flower. I want to avoid flowering in the deepest part of winter if possible, and still get hopefully a reasonable yield. At the moment the weather is sublime. Late 20’s and clear every day. The 2nd widow didn’t transplant as well and is recovering. It was always a tad behind this one, which is clearly the best pheno. Hence I give it to my mate to try out and keep the best one!!!
Week 4. Topped this week so not much vertical growth, but fatter leaves and stronger stem. Recovering well and new growth taking up well. At 3/4 feed this week and probably start full feeds a few days a week soon. Widow has nice bud spots popping out of the lower branches. I bet this would be a good branchy plant if grown out in summer, but this one is going through winter so won’t get a chance to get that big. 🍻
Week 5. White widow is in great shape. Recovered from topping and lower branches are stretching out giving it a bit of shape. I have extended the light in the evenings to keep it in veg, but now it stays outside to finish out. Hoping to get a few weeks more before any frost arrives. It has been perfect weather so far for this one, very lucky. 🍻
Week 6. It was a good week for growth. White Widow has a nice structure. Branchy and tight and lower branches have found their way around fan leaves and it’s nice and full. It has been outside in 12 hours for a full week, but no signs of any hairs yet. Weather has been great, although rain is forecast. Very happy with things so far 🍻
Week 7, widow is coming along really well! Some good vertical growth this week and the first hairs appeared early in the week. The weather is a lot cooler this week so here’s hoping I can get them through ok. June is the coldest month here, but it’s also usually very clear dry weather so with any luck I can beat the frost. Looking forward to the rapid changes in coming weeks, my favourite time in the grow. 🍻
Week 8. White widow is starting to pop out nice little buds. I love this stage in the cycle. A final defoliation today and it should be all happening in coming weeks. Weather has been superb, I think this has contributed to such good vertical growth this week. Really enjoying this winter experiment. 🍻
Week 9. White widow has the coolest shape. It’s a bit messy and crowded, and leaves shuffle in close together around the buds, but the buds look magic. Even though small I can see they are gonna be round and tight. No real smell at all yet, which is a bit weird, but I’m sure it will kick in soon. Loving the look of this one. 🍻
Week 10. Widow is a great looking plant. Unlike any other types I have grown before. The buds are so compact and round, they seem to erupt from the stems rather than swell up slowly. They are so tight, I really haven’t grown an outdoor variety anything like this. I can see the buds are smaller in size, but I feel as though the will be heavy in the end. The smell has finally appeared this week as well as the resin. Nice and sticky and a real thick hash smell. No real sweet or berries, just rich and dank. This is a visually impressive strain. An exciting final few weeks now. 🍻
Week 11. A bit of rain around so widow has been inside a fair bit this week. It is really starting to get frosty now and really dense nugs so I am trying not to get water on the foliage from now on, given we are entering the coldest month of the year. I’m so close I can taste it, just 2 to 3 more weeks of decent weather please!! Really impressive resin and smell coming in now too. It took a while. Hoping to see that classic white later on. 🍻
Week 12. A real cold snap this week with low temps under 10 degrees Celsius. Although widow is really dense i haven’t seen any signs of mould like I have on the Alaskan purple, so that’s a plus. Bit of a weird ugly plant this one. I can’t really say it has anything like a “white” appearance, it’s a bit shaggy and messy. But it smells good close up and the buds are super tight. Gotta good feeling it will be quality over quantity with this one. 🍻
Week 13. The 3rd piece of rot or mould was spotted the other day so that is the end of that. I would like to get at least another week in but it’s too risky with the cold nights and frost, I could lose too much to rot. After the second time, I said “one more time and that’s it” so it’s curtains for widow. Other than that, it’s in great shape! Smells strong, really dense heads and close enough to ready anyway. So that’s the end of this seasons grows, now just waiting on my next order for the new season, so pretty excited about that. Harvest and smoke to follow. 🍻
Seedsman White Widow was an experimental grow, to see how far into winter I could push an outdoor grow. Out of 3 freebies, this was the keeper. It is a stout kind of plant with short internodes and can be a bit shaggy looking, but the nice round looking buds erupting from the tops more than make up for that. I am happy to give the widow an 8 because,,,,
Grow - Easy enough. Bounced back from topping once and handled pretty low temps in the end. I did get a bit of rot though, and lost a few nugs in the end. No pests and nice aesthetic appeal.
Yield - Moderate, not shitloads, but the density of the buds made them heavy and it’s not too bad for a winter finish in 13 weeks.
Buds - Awesome! Great sticky, tight nugs. Strong shit!! Right up there, and taste is great even early in cure. Definitely a unique taste, really nice.
All in all Widow was a worthwhile grow very late in the season. I wasn’t sure if I could push a grow that deep into winter and was more than impressed with the way widow handled the conditions. I would grow widow again, and next time in more preferable conditions. Given that some more are heading here as freebies as I write, the next one won’t be too far away 🍻
