This was a good week. The girls made progress with correcting my nutrient burn error. The nutrient burn isn't any worse. As a newbie, it's my understanding that it won't heal and go away. However, all new growth looks good to me.
My Mars TSL2000 lights came in and I'm very impressed thus far. They put out significantly higher PAR than the old light and cover a much, much wider area with it. I bought two to cover my 4'x4' tent, but since I only have three plants in there now, the one light easily covers it. It doesn't get very hot either. I couldn't be happier with them thus far.
In the next couple days, I think I'll try topping the plants. I may top all three or maybe just the one that didn't show any signs of nutrient burn to be on the safer side, not sure yet. I'm also considering trying to clone these tops that I trim off. I know it's not ideal, but I've read of it being done successfully. After all, what do I have to lose other than a small dab of Clonex? If that experiment actually works, my next decision will be should I go ahead and veg them with these other plants that are 3 weeks further along since I don't have a good space for more full size plants? Since these are photoperiod and I have plenty of room I don't see that it will hurt to have some extra plants in there even if I flower them early and don't get much out of them, but that's a decision for well down the road if it comes to that.
I'm pretty happy with how my first grow is going. I'm learning and that's the most important part after all.
I decided that my girls probably had a calcium deficiency from using distilled water. I added a cal/mag supplement and an enzyme supplement. Now my PPM is through the roof. Should I reduce nutrient levels so that I'm still in the desired PPM range?
Best if you have osmosis water and mix the stale water for 24 hours (after 24 hours the chlorine has evaporated somewhat) to an Ec value of 0.2. Then add Cal / Mag until the Ec is 0.4. This is your source of water
Keep it up 😎👍
@@decam, Thanks much. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worst this week, but I guess that's what first grows are all about, making mistakes and learning from them.
@GanjaTorturer, Thanks. I've got the bottom under the canopy reasonably cleaned up but I'm going to tackle the top and try to clean up a little space for the developing buds. I'm a little anxious about that. Any tips or resources on how to do enough without going overboard would be appreciated. 👍
@flatblack, i’ve been changing mine every Sunday (every 7-10 days) and it seems to be working out well. I haven’t developed any gross smells, algae or anything unwanted in the reservoir yet!
@Piratagrow, This is my first grow ever, so I'm not a good source to give you reliable info. Thus far, I've just changed it out to correct errors I made with nutrients. I'm finishing my third week. I've read some say every week. I've read some that say they don't change the entire grow.
WHOA, that is such a depressing tale of tragedy here.
So sorry to hear of the loss, I am in my first grow and so far so good, I worry about the site you have shown in your tent. I am going into week 8. I too am doing DWC and am very envious of your SCROG. When I saw how well your plants took to this I was so curious of one huge question I have been debating myself and that is how to do a complete water change out if we don't valve our buckets with a drain system and a fill system. My concerns are about nutrient buildup but I figure if the plants are taking up the solution, the nutrients are making it into the plant. I've started adding PH'ed water every other feeding to ensure not to go over.
