This was a great week. I'm not sure if it's mostly the new light or the girls are just hitting a spurt, but they're growing like weeds (unimaginative pun intended). Even after topping, they put on 3.5 inches this week. They're also quite thirsty these days. The roots have made a lot of progress this week too.
As mentioned, I topped them early in the week. It didn't seem to slow them down. Just as an experiment, I tried to clone the three tops I took off. I don't see roots yet, but other than just being a tad wilted as expected, the seem to be doing OK. I didn't put a lot of effort into the cloning. It seemed a waste to throw away the tops, so I thought I might as well throw some Conex on them and put them in the humidity chamber to see if it worked.
I wonder if I should switch to flowering soon. I'm also thinking that maybe I should be trimming back some of those big fan leaves down low. I'll be researching those topics this week and any input will be apreciated.
I'm pretty sure that all the leaves that have yellowing and brown tips are from earlier in the grow when I gave them nutrient burn. On that note, I discovered one more dumb error I made. I wasn't sure why my PPM readings were through the roof earlier. I noticed that I had my PPM meter on the wrong setting. LOL The rest of my body has done well with aging, but it has been hell on my reading vision.
I'm also making my first attempt at growing psilocybin mushrooms. I'm using the PFTEK technique and just moved them to the fruiting chamber a week ago. today I noticed my first pinheads popping up. I included a couple photos even though it's a bit off topic. I've never even tried shrooms. My first trip will be on ones that I grew.
I decided that my girls probably had a calcium deficiency from using distilled water. I added a cal/mag supplement and an enzyme supplement. Now my PPM is through the roof. Should I reduce nutrient levels so that I'm still in the desired PPM range?
Best if you have osmosis water and mix the stale water for 24 hours (after 24 hours the chlorine has evaporated somewhat) to an Ec value of 0.2. Then add Cal / Mag until the Ec is 0.4. This is your source of water
Keep it up 😎👍
@@decam, Thanks much. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worst this week, but I guess that's what first grows are all about, making mistakes and learning from them.
@GanjaTorturer, Thanks. I've got the bottom under the canopy reasonably cleaned up but I'm going to tackle the top and try to clean up a little space for the developing buds. I'm a little anxious about that. Any tips or resources on how to do enough without going overboard would be appreciated. 👍
@flatblack, i’ve been changing mine every Sunday (every 7-10 days) and it seems to be working out well. I haven’t developed any gross smells, algae or anything unwanted in the reservoir yet!
@Piratagrow, This is my first grow ever, so I'm not a good source to give you reliable info. Thus far, I've just changed it out to correct errors I made with nutrients. I'm finishing my third week. I've read some say every week. I've read some that say they don't change the entire grow.
WHOA, that is such a depressing tale of tragedy here.
So sorry to hear of the loss, I am in my first grow and so far so good, I worry about the site you have shown in your tent. I am going into week 8. I too am doing DWC and am very envious of your SCROG. When I saw how well your plants took to this I was so curious of one huge question I have been debating myself and that is how to do a complete water change out if we don't valve our buckets with a drain system and a fill system. My concerns are about nutrient buildup but I figure if the plants are taking up the solution, the nutrients are making it into the plant. I've started adding PH'ed water every other feeding to ensure not to go over.
