In August last year I won a 'diary of the month' award. As a prize I got, among others, a bag with a 10 seeds; strain C99 by Female Seeds.
PS. I got busted last year. Only because the smell of some jars I had open in my livingroom. No joke !
I made a new room with some hi-tech growing equipment from Dimlux. I"ll show you some pictures soon !

It was one of the first strains in female seeds that was launched at the birth of Female Seeds in 2003. But Ferry actually first started working on this strain back in 1999 and the first batch he produced of this amazing variety were regular seeds for a different seedbank. Years of experimenting with the original Brothers Grimm C99 led to the creation of our very own C99. The origins are difficult to establish, but it was a long flowering Sweet Tai landrace crossed with a short flowering Sativa. Most likely, the Durban Poison.
The current batch we are selling was backcrossed to stabilize the genetics with two specially selected C99 phenotypes, a Grapefruit and the legendary Pineapple pheno. The result is the holy grail of cannabis strains, a fast flowering Sativa that has the taste and high of an exceptionally sweet landrace Sativa. A landrace that would normally take up to a half a year of flowering. Yet our C99 flowers in just 8 to 9 weeks. Our C99 has an unusually high CBD content for a Sativa strain. It actually resulted in a new chemotype, CBD-Sativa.
The C99 does not stretch too much and grows like a dream, very vigorous. If you really want to maximize yield, we suggest you veg the C99 for four weeks. Outdoor it stretches more than average in the flowering stage reaching a height of between 2 to 3 metres.
This C99 is a Sativa dominant hybrid and has 2 phenos. One is slightly more compact and the other stretches slightly more. The C99 forms one giant, candle shaped bud with several smaller nugs on lower branches. All very dense and frosty with resin.
Topping this strain or LST is not a problem for the C99. She is also a great strain for outdoor finishing mid-October in more temperate and warmer climates. The C99 is very mold resistant outdoors due to its bud structure. Therefore high humidity is not an issue for the C99.
One phenotype has that wonderful grapefruit smell. The other phenotype has that legendary, sought-after pineapple smell. On the whole, a very nice balanced taste between fruity sweet and pleasantly acidic. The high is a typically Sativa; a warm, glowing, happy and uplifting effect. This high is long-lasting and stimulates the mind providing you with plenty of creative energy.

DAY 32 After repotting one week ago, now first time watering :
10 liter water and 50ml Plagron Start-up in each flat wooden bin (120cmx120cm; covered with pond foil) and let the plants suck it up
The plants are now growing well, and therefore I try to increase the VPD to the value 1.
Plant height : #1 = 40 cm ; plant #6 = 23 cm, the rest in between
DAY 37 Plants are growing excelent ! I have had to rearrange the pots to get a nice flat canopy. Topping and defoliation will result in an even more flat canopy.

DAY 49 since the seeds were put in the ground
DAY 7 of the bloom (height C99 : 60-72 cm)
The C99 are the tallest plants in the collection of the plants that are in my growth space. They have by far with the most Sativa genes. The plants are tall and have slim typical Sativa leaves.
The first week of the flowering phase is over. The branches of the C99 plants are typical Sativa : thin and flexible , I hope the branches will become a bit firmer when they continue to grow for another two to three weeks.
The difference between the different varieties is becoming more and more visible. The Canopy is not so flat anymore. I placed the smallest plants in the middle and around I put the larger plants.
I pour 10 liters of water every 2 days with nutrients in each bin (16 plants) and I let the plants suck this solution. This is easy to water, but more difficult to ensure that the largest plants (the plants on the outer edge) get enough water, while the smallest plants (the plants in the middle) do not get too much.
The C99 plants consume a lot of water in comparison with the other varieties, that is why the soil in which they are standing dries the fastest. Perhaps the leaves turned therefore yellow. I do not think there is a shortage of nitrogen. The soil is well fertilized (Plagron Royalmix) and I mix nutrients in the irragation water.
Friends (all strains in my growroom) are Royal Cookies (RQS), Somango XL (RQS), Royal Gorilla (RQS), Royal AK (RQS), Sex Bud (Female Seeds)
63 days since sowing / 21 days since blooming
Height : 85 - 100 cm
These C99s are really hungry. They get the max.dose of Plagron nutrition and even then the lower leaves get yellow.
The plants have stopped growing. Buds become thicker. Fruity, pleasant smell.
The largest plants have less strong branches. Better to use the plants for a SCROG setup. I will probably have to use a net to give the plants firmness.
Plants the plants need support, otherwise they fall over. I really need to fix a net....
The branches are not so strong, due to the Sativa genes. The plants have many small side branches with a small flowers. Also the head tops are not so thick, but the are sprinkled with trichomes.
The smell is very nice, not pungent, no sweaty intoxicating Indica scent, but one of fine flowers, fruity with a little acid.
Plants are almost ready to harvest.
6 pictures of the same bud. 3 with flash, 3 without flash.
C99 is not so easy to grow. It's a Sativa, so the branches need support. Beautiful frosty buds . Sweet fruity smell. Fast flowering.
63 DAYS = 9 weeks blooming
Last day before chopping them down.

Sativa strain, but quickly ripened. 9 weeks will do perfect.
Small buds, but great yield.
Fast growing, needs to be supported (SCROG or else).
Sweet subtle fruity smell. Peaches, pineapple, grapefruit... 😍 But also hints of catpee smell 😸

Probably for the best! I can’t speak for others, but whatever mystery strain I had that time was a small yielder. Thus far all of my C99 mutations have led to more weed. 😄 I’ve heard that Female Seeds are usually pretty solid, and have less variation in phenotypes as well. This is my first time growing from their stock.
@Oyziphar, very nice start! C99 is one of the classic strains! About the 3-leaves plant: everything is alright, it's a small genetic variation, but the plant will grow normally

I do not intend to repot the plants. I'm limited in height. 😩
In addtion, the size of the pots is 26cmx26cm with four plants in a row = 26cmx4 = 104cm. The wooden trays with pond foil are 120 x 120cm. Not much more room for larger pots....😕
I use Royalmix from Plagron which has been well fertilized for 6 weeks. On top op that, I give the plants a root stimulator, an iron spray and a half-dose growth nutrient.😋
@bobo420, It is not so easy to feed each plant separately. My grow room is not that big to move the plants. I can put them outside, but then I'm afraid that their smell is suspicious....
THX bobo420, They still keep looking a bit hungry. I give them maximum dose Alga Bloom and Green Sensation. The soil is Royal Mix is well fertilzed; it should have enough nutriens for the first 6 weeks., but from day one I gave them extra nutrients: but still the plants draw nutrition from the lower leaves,, so that they look somewhat yellow.
Maybe I have to give them even more than the max. dose mentioned on the package.
If you compare them with the Royal Cookies the difference is stunning. The all got the same nutrion, but the Cookies are dark green, with few buds, almost over-fertilized,

With this kind of ebb-and-flow system it is difficult to take care for plants individually. The Vita Race spray helped a lot., and by choosing how much I spray per plant, I could care them separately. But the C99s are really hungry for nutrients.
@Oyziphar, you're welcome. It can vary from plant to plant not just strain to strain, some are thirstier than others and some use nutrients differently. You also switched to flower so they went to their final stretch which maybe made them use up a little more than usual.

I did have a suspicion about nitrogen deficiency. At first the plants were in a pot with lightly fertilized soil, but after repotting and adding food, I thought it would be alright. But also the new leaves remain light in color and the older ones turn yellow.
The other varieties in my growing room show no signs of shortages. On the contrary. The Cookies are super dark green and they received the same fertilization. I water the plants with an ebb-flow system, it is to say I let the plants suck up the water. The C99 are the thirstiest, so at first I thought that the plants may be yellowed by a shortage of water. Or even a shortage of light, was also one of my thoughts.
But now that you also say that it is a nutritional deficit, I'm going to give the plants a boost by spraying them with a fertilization spray.
So my friend, what does this smell like throughout grow can you tell us please, if i grow in a large cupboard with filter do you think the smell would be very powerfull or not? Does it have that skunk smell etc? I only ask as i need something stealthy thats more in the fruit department as i grew female seeds lemon kush and 1 month into veg i had to cut it as it stank so strong it got through my filter and walls, and the neighbours were asking questions, it somehow got through the walls in the room the cupboard was in, baffled me as I sealed the room and had the cupborad at negative pressure.:( Any help on what strain to grow from female seeds or any other breeder would be great my friend's and keep up the superb grows Ozy😎
@PannDanggDiddlyAngg, Thank you for you comment. I got those seeds as a price for winning a cup. First time I did seeds from Female Seeds. I also got one seed called Sex Bud. Both strains are from the same family. C99 is a ancestor for Sex Bud. C99 grows quicker, with slack branches, that's why she needs support. Sex Bud is firmer plant and can stand without support. I like Sex Bud more than the C99. Both are no smelly skunky plants, they are more like fruity peaches. Sex Bus is a bit more smelly than C99. I wish you luck with your next grow !😁 💪👻
