From the seed producer..."a back-cross of selected males and females from the original 1998 release of Cinderella 99 by legendary U.S. breeder Mr Soul. This generation is even more uniform and true-breeding than the original." I started with seven regular seeds but had a heck of a time getting any of them to germinate. Three seeds basically started to compost after two weeks of no vital signs, and the jury is still out on two more. As of today, I have two sprouts. Scorching outdoor temps are not kind to seeds in transit, so I attribute that to the failure of most of these seeds. I will take one or two through flower and hopefully get a mother out of these. I may only have two plants to choose from if the last seed doesn't pop. Hopefully they're both female. 🙏
Seedling stage, going as well as can be expected when all the environmental needs are met. We've been having an extended heatwave and trouble getting the AC to keep up. The tents have peaked at 82F during the day at times. I've managed to keep it around 80F. Hopefully these early heat stresses don't affect the sex. Both were transplanted from their common 3.75" seedling pots into my favorite 1-liter pots to accommodate further root development. Neither one seemed to mind at all and showed no sign of stress.
Next week will involve transplanting to 3-gallon fabric pots in anticipation of topping.
I love the explosion of growth during the third week. The photo record testifies to this fact. The fan leaves are just as large as a plant three times their age. One phenotype has much tighter nodes then the other and is at least one inch shorter, even though they are equally as bushy at this stage. The growth tips on both plants, on every node, are shooting out rapidly.
I transplanted to their final pots and anticipate topping this coming week. The tops will be stuck into seedling pots to root.
At the start of last week, one was topped down to the third node, the other to the fourth. The former is much easier to LST, and as of today, both are tied down and filling in. I've only plucked a couple of the fan leaves on each. They were absolutely enormous looking for such little plants. One is displaying early male sex characteristics, unfortunately, but I will take them both into flower before getting out the choppers. I might be losing half my grow this round if one of these and the Finnish Frost in the other tent aren't female. I'm already plotting what gets planted next.
Good night, gentlemen. Alas they were both male and have gone back to the earth. Nebula Haze from GrowWeedEasy.com says that criss-crossed stipules oftentimes means that the plant will reveal as female. Both of these had crossed stipules and got their stacked little sacks out anyway. I am allowing one of them to mature outside so I can collect pollen for breeding later. These, after all, are original 1998 Cinderella 99 from the creator, Mr. Soul, himself.
