This is my first run. Started off a little rocky due to the overwatering bit, but it’s improved quite a bit in the last 48 hours. Once this lady grows some more I’ll be transferring to an RDWC system. Fingers crossed I won’t totally snub this thing!
Week 2 has been a little crazy. I had Lady Liberty in a solo cup with a 75w CFL keeping her happy until the dam cheap clip on the ballast decided to stop doing its job. Long story short is the lamp fell (luckily not on the plants) and knocked over both of my cups. So I figured why the hell not transfer them now. (Might’ve been the Glueberry OG I bowled)
Not sure if this is common, but once I had the rock wool cube in hand I noticed that the roots were just barely poking out. I have to say it’s a huge difference using the rapid rooter that I have going (Lemon Amber Kush, diary starts tomorrow) that is a full week behind. Not to fret, the roots have sniffed out the water in the RDWC and grew overnight into the water (it was surprisingly fast).
To my surprise, there was little if any ‘transfer shock’ and lady liberty seemed to pick right back up and continue to do her thing!
I have 20 gallons RO water running through the system and I’m using Advanced Nutrients Grow and Micro so far. Keeping the nutes low until the end of week 3. Then I’ll ramp it up a bit. Also got some cal/mag and H2O2 for root health.
Week 3 has been fairly good. It started off with my trusty humidifier biting the dust and finding my humidity down to around 35% 😩 So I quickly purchased a replacement, which increased my temperature to 79 degrees but also brought the humidity back up to 73-75%. The first day of higher temperature had a leaf or two get some slight wilting, but the following day they went back to normal and the explosion (explosive sound) started!
I also upped the nutes on Monday, bringing my PPM up to just under 600. Gotta say it’s been pretty smooth since then as the girl has reacted positively.
I literally topped this morning, although yesterday I wasn’t sure if that 5th node would come out before I posted. Overnight it granted my wish of being big enough to snip!
Again, this is my first experience, so although my feelings may be good so far.. I’d love to hear back from you guys about what you see and if I need to change anything or implement any cool stuff.
Speaking of cool stuff, I’ll be putting together my top hanging 2 net Scrog this weekend. So wish me BIG luck on getting it right!
PS. I forgot to get pics of the roots, but they are long as crap and all white (h2o2 once a week). I’ll include them next week.
This week started off terrible, and ended up decent. I topped my res and wanted to add more nutrients. Did I mention you should pay close attention to what bottles you’re grabbing off the shelf? Yea, grab the bloom and dropped a healthy amount in my res. Within a few hours Lady Liberty was looking bad... not like really bad, but not good or ok either. I had no idea what I did so I left it alone thinking (why do I have a brain) she’d recover. Before going to bed I thought I’d give her a check... holy chit... she was looking like death. A couple fan leaves were absolutely demolished, and others were right behind. So I checked the bottles I had lined up and sure enough I realized what I had done. I figured what the hell and did a complete res change at 1130pm. So I drained all the water, replaced with RO, and put in the RIGHT nutes. She recovered, but I did have to pull the destroyed fan leaves. I’m positive it was dumb luck that I pulled them because after that FUBAR move, the plant has started to really put some size on her branches. I LST’d her on the two branches that matured from the topping I gave and they are growing insane!
A few quick questions if anyone wants to chime in:
Should I wait until she branches out a bit before LSTing more?
Can I pull my plant up from the bottom of the net pot and add more pebbles around it so I can see the entire plant? This may help me to LST it a little easier, but if I shouldn’t worry, then I’ll leave it.
Anyways, if I can have a week or two without any catastrophic failures, this thing may actually happen 😂
PS- my Scrog net didn’t go as planned but some gorilla tape saved it. I will DEFINITELY build a better one after this 😂😂😂
So at this point I have more questions than answers. Lady Liberty seems to be doing fine and growing big. There’s some nute burn on there but that was residual from last weeks epic mess up of nute formula. She’s definitely increased her size and despite LSTing she’s pushed up to the net. Only one question... I’d add this to grow questions but it isn’t really a ‘bad’ problem so I’ll leave them here for input.
1. Should I wait 1 or 2 weeks before flipping? (I know it’s my choice but I’d like some experts to chime in)
PS- if you’ve been following, this week was my first week without anything crazy happening 😂 I’m kinda proud of that!!!
So she’s filled in the net and it’s time to flip! My other plant is a week behind, but I think tomorrow will be the switch. I’ve been keeping the nutes low and aside from the bit of nute burn she suffered last week, she’s bounced back and is drinking about 1/2 gallon a day. That’s it for now. Time to go read up on the flipping process.
One week into flower and we’re filling out nice and fast! Maybe a little too fast for the size of my tent, but I’m gonna try to keep pushing the branches down to get a wide canopy. That’s all for this week.
🗽 is looking good. Continuing to grow like crazy. I defoliated quite a bit but I might need to do some more. The smell is starting to really kick in. One more week of ‘stretch’ might be a bit tight since I’m quickly running out of room.
So this is supposed to be the last week of flower ‘stretch’ and I hope that’s true! Liberty has started to produce some nice looking flowers and the smell is really starting to ramp up. I’ve been keeping the nutes relatively low, and I haven’t seen any ill effects from it. Now all I need her to do is grow fat and not tall! 😂
Smooth week for the girls. Not much stretching left on her and the flowers are packing on more weight. Trichs are starting to pack on there and some pistols are showing some orange colors. Smell is definitely starting to strengthen too.
Anybody know why I’m seeing brown spots and burnt tips? I think it might just be time for a res change. Haven’t done it since I flipped and she’s been drinking about 1.5 gallons a day for the last 2 weeks.
Happy 4/20 my friends! Just a quick update on Lady Liberty. She’s still packing on the weight, but I’m starting to see brown spots and burnt tips. Not really sure of what the problem is, the nutes have been steady and I haven’t made any changes. Maybe time for a res change? It has been a while. On a positive note, she’s getting hella sticky and smelly. I’ll try to do a good defoliation this week, she’s really looking bushy. It’s just hard to get to the backside of the space. Should’ve thought about that when I was creating the RDWC, but another lesson learned! Anyways, hope y’all are having a great 4/20 and keep growing!
So after a res change and some finger crossing, it looks like we’re back on track. Buds have fattened up a bit and leaves are getting sticky icky. Trichs are still clear, but I’m hoping they start to turn soon.
So we’re in the recovery process after a much needed res change. I replaced the water and let her relax in some nute free water for a couple of days. She seems to have perked back up although the leaves are still spotted ( I know it can’t be reversed, but it’s just not as pretty). Smell was becoming ridiculous, so I broke down and got a carbon filter. That helped quite a bit. Next step is to get some rubber gloves, because the sticky is unlike anything I’ve experienced before. I defoliated some leaves to get light further into the canopy, and after 4 hand washings my hands were still sticky 🙁 Trichs are the slightest of cloudy, so I still have a few weeks yet. The colors are really starting to kick in though!
So we’re packing on the flowers again after that little stint with the res water. The leaves are looking happier than last week and I’ve seen some new ones popping out. Trichs are finally starting to just turn the slightest of cloudy. Speaking of which, if anybody has a good way of looking at trichs let me know. The pocket microscope I have is not easily centered. Thanks!
Sorry for the late post. Had some medical problems and my butt got put in the hospital. Those few days kinda messed up my girls a bit, but now that I’m back I’ve fixed the ph and topped off the res. The trichs are definitely cloudy, so I’m looking to flush Friday and chop next week sometime.
@DudeGrowsWeed, I’ve changed the water 3 times total. I think you’re heading in the right direction.. it probably does need to be changed since I haven’t changed since the flip (5weeks ago). Looks like I’ll be making a h2o run in the morning! Today... well you know what today is 💨 Also, great name man.. the dude abides.
@biggreens420, thanks. I picked up the materials for a Scrog net today. So sometime this week I’ll put it together. I’m waiting on the 5th node to top, which should be in the next day or two.
@Flavoursuk, thanks! Sorry for the delayed reply, haven’t had the opportunity to get on here much. I’m hoping she stays healthy and brings in some good yields.
It's up to you like you say i would give her a week if your still not satisfied with the net give her longer so it's full to your liking if u strip the lower stuff it will make the tops stretch also i would recommend this as the bottom branches will be struggling all the time sapping energy from the rest of her
@biggreens420, thanks for the tips. I’ll defoliate today and see how she does this week. I feel like the growth at this point is coming on much quicker than previous weeks, so the net may fill up by next weekend.. hopefully I’ll have some big greens! Haha, dad humor.. I’m sorry.
Sounds like you’ve had a hell of a week, glad to hear she has recovered man, good effort pulling her back. I will be ever more mindful when adding my nutrients ;)
Hopefully everything goes smooth for the rest of your grow
@KushyLou, thanks man! Yea the nute mix up had me really worried. I’m also growing a Kush that literally ate it and kept going with barely any signs of stress. I still ended up with a little nute burn on Liberty but she’s picked up and started to really blow up. I’m not sure if I’ll flip in 1 more week or 2. She’s like right at the Scrog net now and that’s after some good LSTing. It’s pretty much an entirely new experiment for me so I’m trying all the tricks I can think of 😂
Anyways, thanks for checking me out and giving me some words of encouragement! May your grows be bountiful my friend!
You seem to be good to go! I'm not as experienced with hydro, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask! If I can't answer it, maybe someone else can!
First grows are scary and exciting at the same time! Liked and followed!
@PoppaMac, yes finding the "list of all tutorials" page and the "list of all growing topics" page expanded my resources on GWE greatly
http://www.growweedeasy.com/link-guide-growing-cannabis
if you go to the "Tutorials" or "growing topics" header at the top of each page they are the last item on the drop-down menu, for future reference
@Jaindoh, yessir! That’s what I was thinking the ratio would be but hadn’t found a breakdown. Excellent source you dropped me! I’ve skimmed that site like 50 times and hadn’t run across that info before. Lol. So thank you for the quick reply with the essential answers!
@bobo420, thanks for the input! That’s what I was kind of feeling with the nutes.. she was looking good without the scheduled max, but I thought it might boost her, nope I was wrong.
I guess I’ll see how big she gets this week and maybe it’ll be time for flip next weekend!!! It’s crazy how fast the time has passed.
@PoppaMac, yeah, AN have pretty much all nutrients on 2ml/l, haven't used those in particular so can't tell you what would be best, some plants like more or less of nutes, she looks healthy so I wouldn't go overboard. As for SCROG, I'd wait until she fills that square a bit more, 2 weeks might be too much, because she's going to stretch in first few weeks of flower too
@bobo420, thank you!! The nutes had me worried since they “should” be much higher according to the schedules I’ve seen online. I just don’t think I can bring them up above 600 ppm without burning her. C’est la vie. Any advice on the Scrog? Should I wait another 1 or 2 weeks?
Hazes take way too long for me, your anticipation must be killing you!
By the looks of the pictures though, I think you will find the wait well worth it =)
@Jaindoh, I truly didn’t know how long the haze’s growth would take! I popped the seed and THEN looked her up... when I saw some people at 20+ weeks I knew I was in for it. The haze family is one of my favorites to smoke/edibilize so I wanted to go with one before my favorite, super lemon haze grow. Didn’t know much about Liberty prior, it was just a free seed 😂
a great strain to smoke! looking very nice! only problem for me was don't smoke it before you go to sleep! it's a real sativa and your brain will be very active . great social smoke. good luck
@Bluesbreeder, that’s exactly the type of strain I want! This is gonna be my daytime smoke. I definitely won’t use this at night unless it’s the weekend.
It's going great here 👍 I'm now in week 7 of flowering stage of the same strain. Gonna give them 2 more weeks with nutrients and then start flushing for 2 weeks. Good luck but I think this will go fine 😉
@@JackSpliff, hey man, sorry for the delay. Heck yea your girls are looking sexy! I didn’t know that Lady Liberty would take so dang long! I feel like she won’t be ready until Juneish.
@biggreens420, lol @ gonna! I’ve been trying to lock her down to her side of the Scrog but she keeps trying to take over. I’m gonna need a bigger boat... err.. tent.
@Jaindoh, yea man, I can’t imagine going another week in veg like I previously thought. Going to drain the res and fill it up with some flower nutes tomorrow and start the 12/12.
