Any tips on getting them to turn purple? Ive got Auto GDP´s on the way and would like to get that deep purple on them when I get around to growing them?
@Tonks,@Tazard I think I got it... It has to do with temperatures , but not the ambient temps as people believe , but rather the irrigation temps. It makes more sense , as the plants turn purple from the inside out....

Have a read through this article. About half way down it explains :
**One of the first visible symptoms are purple stems and petioles and very dark leaves, which is probably caused by a deficiency of phosphorous (this element is poorly assimilated at 15ºC, and won’t be assimilated at 10ºC). The growth of the plant is stopped and soon deficiencies of other elements will be observed, like magnesium or nitrogen.
During bloom, this problem usually results in poor flower development, although resin production is normal in many occasions, as happens with intensive off-season outdoor farming. Thus, the size of the buds will be much smaller and they’ll develop much more small leaves.**
So , taking this into account , I would say to leave it right to the end , most likely the flush cycle . This way they can grow like normal and when you flush reduce the water temps to about 10 Cº and they should colour up. Maybe the lower the temps , the darker the shade purple or black even....?
I am planning on building a indoor aquaponic system in my man cave and will build a separate flush bed with a separate tank for cold water flushing...Just need to figure out how I am going to lower the temps to maintain a constant temperature... Ill figure it out once I get there...but might still be a few months...A lot of work to do before I can start cycling my tanks and getting the growing going... Time will tell and I will let you know how if it works.....
@Tazard,keep us informed what they say. ive read up and it seems definitely its the temperature drop that does the trick...but on another thread I read something about the water temp dropping and not the air temp. Also seems they do it late into flowering. when i get there i think ill try both, during the flush cycle , in a seperate cupboard with lower water temps and lower air temps...I havent actually started growing yet , but wanna learn as much as possible before I start.
@Tonks, yea but still that’s hard to swallow not being able to say good bye. I’m happy you got to say your good byes before he moved on that’s awesome! Life is one crazy mother!
Do you have any experience with topping autoflowers? I've seen it's quite controversial, I'm doing LST now but I'm thinking of trying topping my next grow.
@grower_not_shower, I've topped a few, all have gone really well so far. It used to be controversial topping autos but now ppl are mainlining them and getting great results! I just stick to a rule of nor topping unless the plant has 4 or 5 nodes by the end of week 2, and try to top between day 14 and 20. 😊
@GreenZealand, Yeah this one and the Magnum are both pretty big for babies! I've started training the Magnum but I topped this one, I'll post the update soon. I had the light a bit higher than I'd like but I've finally been able to drop it now that I'm harvesting my Monkey. Don't plan on too much restriction though cause I've only got the two plants this run, plenty of room for em :D
@grower_not_shower,Yeah i defoled heaps! Cause she's so tall but i didnt want to cut all the lower bud sites, needed to get the light to penetrate. And i like to get more energy into buds instd of leaves 😊
hey tonks, checked out all of your grows and would love to do something similar, some very nice work! I've been using nutrifield for photos and wanting to go into autoflowering, have a bunch of seeds ready to go and picked my strain for the first run, Cream Mandarine xl from sweet. Now i just want your opinion on a few things, i have a 1.2x1.2x2 tent, how many plants and what size pots would you recommend? 2x 15l fabrics was my idea, secondly feeding nutes, you mentioned you dont feed all in one cocktail because of high ec, are you able to explain your procedure throughout a week eg. week 4. For my first run ill stick to your ml per L, and wait for the plants to tell me what they need or dont need, thanks for your time
