14th August 2020
This has been in the planning for quite awhile now , I have been wanting to grow some
real landrace varieties ever since I began growing , but I was hesitant to try until I had a few grows
under my belt so to speak.
The Main aim for this grow is to get a feel for how the Malawi strain grows in a controlled environment
ie indoors with Artificial lighting and to perhaps get lucky and maybe find a keeper that I can clone
for future Grows etc. 😎 Also any plant of the three that is Male will be allowed to develop some pollen
( somewhere safe) for me to keep for later use.
Because these are Pure Sativa seeds I will only be using Organic Soil with natural amendments from
my own supplies such as Worm castings , Composted Materials etc.
Now for a bit of information about this particular strain heres what The Real Seed Co have up on their Website

Malawi Gold Description
Genetics: Nkhotakota Landrace, ‘Malawi Gold’ Heirloom
Sourcing: Afropips, via collector community
Purpose: Ganja (bud)
Latitude: 13°S
Height: 2 – 4 metres
Aroma: Floral, tangy, spicy, herbal
Characteristics: Vibrant, euphoric, and long-lasting high
Classification: C. sativa subsp. indica var. indica
Grow Type: Greenhouse or outdoors
This is the original Afropips Malawi Gold heirloom, collected in Malawi several decades ago and reproduced from seeds kindly donated by a landrace collector.
The best Malawi landraces are equatorial Sativa-type plants renowned for their vibrant, euphoric high and unique flavours. Historically, they’re most closely associated with the Nkhotakota region. Traditionally, flowering tops are made into ‘Malawi cobs’ by wrapping them in corn husks for storage and curing.
According to the original Afropips description, “Malawi Gold is internationally renowned as one of the most potent psychoactive pure African sativas. Afropips Superior first grade Malawi Gold was selected from 10 years experience with top Malawi growers for the spiciest taste & the most psychoactive clean vibrant high. The high is long lasting & has an enjoyable alert mental clarity coupled with a warm pleasant feeling that radiates throughout the body. The unique tropical & luxuriant spicy sativa up high can be attributed to the presence of THCV in this early cultivated strain.”
Sounds Good Doesn't it 😀
Now lets see if I can do it any justice and not F*ck it up big time 😁

Okie dokie so the three little Malawi gold seedlings have had their first full week in the solo cups
Today (21st) I repotted each plant into a 5 Litre pot that will be their home until they show sex .
They are all looking healthy enough a bit short but I'm sure they will take off soon enough.
Not much to report on until they start to grow so I will leave it at That
Thanks for Stopping by 👍

This is really interesting 😀 I seem to have 3 very distinct plants here and the smallest looks to have
what appears to be a polyploid mutant Leaf . The two leaves are joined together and there is no "Node" in which
the plant can naturally grow higher. The plant then needs to grow a side branch that becomes the new main stem 😯
I only know this because it happened to another plant I grew before .
The bigger plant (Green Pheno) looks to good to true so is probably a Male 😁 and the one I label as Plant 3 is the Red stemmed phenotype . They haven't needed to be fed as the Soil is keeping them Happy .
I'm gonna need to start topping them as soon as I can except for the mutant one which I will leave alone .
Thats it for this week , Cheers for stopping by 👍

Hi 😀
The three Malawi's are looking good and I have topped the two Normal looking plants
but left the Mutated one to it's own devices.
I'm heading off for a week Tomorrow so Ive given them all plenty of water and hopefully by the next update
I will be able to identify what sex they are.
So far I'm treating each one as if it was a Female and will adapt accordingly
Thanks for stopping by 👍

Hey I'm back from my epic 2500 km Trip up north to visit family and to check out out the new House Ive bought out Bush
I was pleased to see that all three plants remain healthy and happy.
I can see that the plant in the Green Bucket is a Female , the other two plants I am still unsure on so I'll keep checking every day
but I have a feeling that they could be both males which would actually be a good thing as I will be very pressed for room for awhile
until I'm all set up again athe new place.
All three plants were very happy to recieve a good drink of water apon my return and I'll look into transplanting the Female
and any of the other two if they turn out to be girls too 😎
That is all for this week
Cheers for stopping by 👍
Ps Sorry to all the growers who's diaries I reguarly follow for missing your updates Whilst I was gone

Well Unfortunately this Grow has come to a premature ending 😔
I was correct in my sexing of the two plants in the red buckets as Males but the third one actually sprouted both sexes
(Hermie) so I've pulled all three up and will try again with this strain when I'm settled into the new place
Thanks to you all for taking the time to check out my Diary bummer it had to end so abrubtly but I'll definately have
another crack 👍
This is going to be a nice show!!! I will stay tuned for updates and I can't wait to see how yours will turn!! Did not know about this breeder so far and it will be interesting to compare same landrace from different source! Wish you well see you around!
@Grey_Wolf, Those people look pretty serious about what they do. I really like what I see. I am in love with their Lebanese!! Definitely looking forward your grow Cheers!
Hey mate, i see they are vastly different in size. Do you reckon the little one will catch up? Im thinkin my jack may be a bit of a runt and not sure wether to persist or cut as a loss and restart... its a good example of why i shouldnt be a tight ass and put more than one in at a time!!
@Shooey, hi mate sorry only just saw this yeh sometimes its not worth wasting energy on the runts
and your right about sprouting more seeds I'm gonna run a heap next grow
@ROM101, I hope I can tame it during the stretch 😬
Will be trying to keep the light hours more like it would be in Africa so 13.5 hours of Daylight for
just a few weeks of veg then a flip to 11.5 on 12.5 hours off should hopefully keep them down in size.....
