So I am finally back! I will be growing a few plants and pulling off a quick head stash harvest before we move. I have started to make the transition to organic gardening practices because I have become extremely interested in soil science. If you are too, check out the book Teaming With Microbes, One Straw Revolution, and The Lean Farmer. I also will be using knowledge/wisdom from a huge collection of extensive research conducted during my 3 month sabbatical. My main inspirations are Rasta Jeff, Mendodope, Subcool, MinnesotaNice, Brownguy420, The Dude and Scotty Real, Tad Hussey, and many more that I can't name them all. Thank you!
This grow will be using two different soil recipes. CQ1: is the Mephisto Autoflower Super Soil and CQ2 is a home made variant on the Subcool Super Soil recipe. For CQ1 I filled the bottom half of the pot with Light Warrior, then added 20% earth worm castings (ECW), the recommended amount of Mephisto Auto Super Soil, and mixed thoroughly. Then I added the other half the pot in light warrior and mixed in 15% EWC thoroughly. For CQ2, I added my super soil mix to the bottom 1/3rd of the pot in full strength. Next I added some Light Warrior and made a 2" buffer layer with 50/50 supersoil to Light Warrior mixed. Then I added the other 2/3 of the pot with light warrior and mixed in about 20% ECW.
Feeding for this run will be limited to top dressing organic, dry amendments, nutrient teas, aerated compost teas, and recharge on an as needed basis.
I soaked the peat plugs in some water with kelp meal. Before I placed the seeds in the plugs, I sprinkled Mycorhizae into the hole then dropped the seed on top to ensure tap root infection. Mycorhizae can be seen enveloping the seedling at the base of the stem and looks like a mold or stringy grey filaments. This fungi forms a symbiotic relationship with the plant by attaching to the root, extending a network of it's roots, obtaining plant nutrients, then passing them back along the fungal roots back to the plant where it trades the nutrients to the plant for carbon that the fungi needs. This fungi effectively increases the reach of a plant's root system exponentially.
I placed the pots full of soil in the grow environment and watered them with Recharge 3 days before I planted the seeds in them. I do this to help the soil settle, moisture to distribute more evenly, and allow microbe life to begin to form in the pot well before the plants are planted.
Super excited to try Mephisto's highest sativa strain!
Thanks for tuning in everyone! Glad to be back in the community! ✊

Grow Schedule to Date:
Sprout: 3/1/17 (Full moon)
Age: Day 11 as of 3/11/18
Updates/Observations:
-Water about a tenth of a gallon or so distilled water every 2 days alternating with Recharge every third time. Trying to keep the soil always slightly moist and never let it dry completely to keep microbes (and by extension the soil) at optimum health.
-Timantha is not doing so great. She appears to be miniaturized possibly due to too much worm worm castings or nitrogen in the seed mix (Light Warrior) but I think that is unlikely. Water only until she bounces back.
-CQ2 looks very unique compared to my other seedlings. Her leaves are very sharply serrated and skinny. I am hoping she is a true Sativa expression but we will see!
-Cover crop staying small for now.
Cheers!

Grow Schedule to Date:
Sprout: 3/1/17 (Full moon)
Age: Day 25 as of 3/25/18
Updates/Observations:
- Water only for this last week and next. Soil is very hot so I don't need to cycle any of those nutrients down right now.
- Plants showing light burns on lower foliage but nothing serious yet.
- Trying to keep the soil always slightly moist and never let it dry completely to keep microbes (and by extension the soil) at optimum health.
- CQ1 is still miniaturized and has shown sex so I think she is going to finish very small, if she makes it at all. I am worried the hot soil will burn her down because she wont ever get big.
- CQ2s leaves show a very strong Sativa expression and I love it.
- CQ2 is growing very vigorously.
- All plant showing sex (F).
Worm Feeding:
- This week I fed my worms about a pound or so total of: Banana, mango, dill, tomatoes, carrots, strawberries, aloe filet, green beans, covered in a dash of oyster shell and alfalfa meal.
- I layer down some canna leaves, layer diced up worm food, sprinkle dry amendments (kelp, oyster shell, neem, etc.), layer canna leaves, then replace bedding and they are happy!
- Creating the food layer protected by the green manure gives the worms a nice buffer zone to move freely through eating as much as they want.
- This method is inspired by HerbinFarmer on Youtube. I really enjoy his videos so if you have time, check him out!
Cheers!

Updates/Observations:
- Water only continues.
- Plants showing light burns still progressing on lower foliage but nothing crazy.
- Trying to keep the soil always slightly moist and never let it dry completely to keep microbes (and by extension the soil) at optimum health.
- CQ1 is mini but she is going to go the distance. She deserves as much!
- CQ2 just reminds me of what I might expect to see walking through the fields in Jamaica. Suuuuper sativa expression, lanky, skinny, sharp! 😵
- CQ2 is keeping pace with the Skywalker.
- All plant showing sex (F).
Cheers!

- Love the sativa expression! It really seems to help with serious light penetration.
- She grows really bushy and flat with no training. I am very impressed so far!
Bonus: I planted some lettuce greens in a tight circle (Google high intensity farming) around a group of peppers and threw the pot off in the corner of the room for fun.
Cheers!

Age: Day 74 as of 5/14/18
Updates/Observations:
- Chopped her at day 74.
- Strongest smelling plants in the garden. Smells like a tropical, Jamaican paradise not that I know what that smells like but it is pretty awesome.
- CQ2 finished out a larfy runt for sure but she is extremely resinous.
- CQ1 looks like she is going to yield a pretty solid amount compared to other plants in this run.
- Chopped to hang at 70 degrees F, 50% humidity for 7-10 days.
- Will post harvest report after they finish drying and star the cure.
Cheers!

This is one of the reasons I am switching to photoperiods! I really wish I could have had a cut of this plant because I just absolutely loved it. It was a pleasure to grow, strong smelling, the most resinous plant I have seen yet, and really messes me up! If I grow autos again, it will be Mephisto for sure.
