Grow #2 for 2020! 1st grow was a clone from a local dispensary (Staples OG from THC) that yielded just under 2oz in a 2 gallon pot in this same tent.
-120watt QB style light from budgetledgrowlights.com with far red and uvb diodes. Light currently at 50% power @ 24". Light is in a fixed position, but will adjust intensity as the plants dictate.
-1 gallon fabric pots with a mix of FFOF/Malibu/Perlite in roughly equal parts. Also added Mykos, other probiotics and a tablespoon of nutrient pack from BuildASoil. Pots topped off with just Malibu/Perlite to help ease the seedlings into the medium.
-Seeds germinated in root riot cubes using the Ronin method. Currently only at 25% germination rate; I suspect too much heat. Started on a heat mat which was much too hot and cooked 4 seeds. Tried 4 more on the wifi router, 2 of which sprouted. Next time will germinate in t-shirt drawer as I think the ambient temp (especially now in summer) is more than enough heat. I do like the cubes though; much easier to handle than the paper towel method. Seeds stored safely in fridge.
8/24 - Have been going through a humid heat wave in Southern California; temps reach as high as 92 in tent. Switched to a 19/5 light schedule to keep heat down and conserve energy. Have been switching out reusable ice packs inside tent during peak het.
8/27
Chugging along!
-Feeding RO water, calmag and coconut water. Bottom watering but watering top as needed.
-Added a small humidifier to stabilize and bump RH levels up. Currently at +60%, up from 50%.
-Also reworked ducting to bring fresh air into tent from the "cold side" of the house. Tent now also exhausts out top of backroom along with dryer. Tent temps have dropped 3-5 degrees and RH stabilized at a happier ~60%! Now able to drive the leds a little harder (currently dimmed to 60%) to prevent stretching. Still watching closely for signs of stress.
8/31 Day 14
Temps dropping and everything looks good! The Gorilla Glue is much smaller than the Mace Windu but the leaf development is about the same.
9/4
All is well! Topped Mace Windu at 5th node. Both girls have a couple of long roots out of bottom of fabric pots. These felt pots aren't as good as the "ripstop" style of bags; the roots can work themselves through the felt! Good sign though as I'm sure there is plenty of healthy roots inside.
Gorilla Glue is much smaller, but still at the same level of development (at 5th node). Will not top or LST; will see how she does with some leaf tucking and scrogging.
Put up trellis net in anticipation of the inevitiable explosion of growth that is early flowering. The Mace Windu will want to explode once it recovers from the topping.
No additional nutes yet; still feeding RO water, calmag, and coconut water. Soil is still a bit "hot" and was amended with a bit of BuildASoil Nutrient Pack prior to transplanting.
9/5
Added 3D printed LST clips to Mace Windu. Same spread but without the strings! Will remove clips once stalks hold angle.
9/8
Moved LST clips from Mace Windu over to GG.
9/10
-Crazy week of CA on fire! Smoke has actually increased RH as it traps the marine layer in. Temperatures continue to drop but ready for Santa Ana season.
-Pistils starting to come in on Mace!
-Added and removed LST clips from both plants as needed. The smaller blue clips will dig into branches if left on too long. If they need more time, the black clips are larger and have a gentler arc angle.
-Still bottom feeding with calmag and powdered coconut water. Will feed compost tea once flowering starts in earnest. Ordered additional Blumats so each plant will have 2 each for supplemental top watering.
9/13
-Lightly defoliated and pinched new growth out from under the canopies on both plants.
-Added and adjusted LST clips as needed.
-Added a second Blumat Classic Jr to each pot.
-Basic bottom watering continues.
9/17 - Day 30
Flowering! Both shooting pistils with Mace pulling ahead of GG's schedule even more.
GG started showing what appears to be a P deficiency on largest fan leaves. Took it as a sign to feed for BAS nutrient tea and bottom feeding some Buddha Bloom.
Mace shows some mag def, increased calmag.
9/18
Added slight LST to GG, mostly to guide the main cola/stalk away from growing straight into the light.
Elevated blumat res to increase warer rate.
9/23 - Day 36
Humming along! Added pics.
9/28 - Day 41
Getting some yellowing and damage to the older fan leaves but the new growth and bud sites look great! Staying the moderate path; watering and feeding as needed.
Trying to clone a cutting from the GG Auto that was on the backside of the LST and couldn't swing around to the light. Not expecting much (its an auto cutting, after all), but could use more experience with cloning. Can't hurt as it would've gone in the trash anyways!
With summer coming to a close, keeping a close eye on RH to maintain optimum VPD.
9/30 - Day 43
-Defoliated the under canopy to have better access to the topsoil on both plants.
-Both girls are very hungry! Feeding them both a little more Buddha Bloom more often, also top watering a little more to hopefully push the nutrients further down. Already showing more green in new growth, but keeping a close eye out and have Dr. Earth's flower booster on standby for some additional P and K if need be.
-The GG cutting rooted; transplanted into Darth Vader novelty mug for giggles. Missed a great flavor win by putting a Mace Windu cutting in there but it is what it is! Using a disposable pipette with the bulb cut off for bottom watering.
10/2 - Day 45
-Removed all plant trainers as they've both stopped stretching and are into full flower.
-Ambient temps and RH are all over the place as SoCal hits proper Santa Ana conditions. Using the small humidifier on full to help mitigate the low RH (20% on 10/1). Watering daily, sometimes twice a day on dry days.
-Girls continue to be hungry! Fed both a tea made from Dr. Earth's Flower Booster, continuing with calmag and coconut powder as before. Despite the yellowing, the girls are drinking and praying so I will continue to stay the course!
10/6 - Day 49
-Added a top dress of some malibu compost soil and BAS craft blend to both plants and drenched. Girls are still hungry but going about feeding them slowly. If still hungry, will feed tea again next week which should hopefully be enough nutrients to see it through until harvest.
10/8 - Day 51
-Removed trellis net as most fan leaves have died off or have been removed. Makes it easier to care for plants as we approach the final act. Tightened LST on GG as she's still growing taller!
-Got a little bit of nute burn; seeing as peak nutrient consumption is now, will only use water and coconut powder here on out as soil has plenty of good stuff should the plant need it.
-Mace Windu smells like Jolly Ranchers!
-GG is just starting to show trichromes; it's awesome to see the genetic variety between the strains!
-Cleaned up Blumat lines and fed them through a rubber stopper at top of reservoir. Already brainstorming for an external reservoir on top of tent for a super passive/gravity watering system.
10/17 - Day 60
-Plants started to drink a lot of water and coupled with Santa Ana conditions, I think they got too dry. Did a thorough slow soak on Day 59 and made sure run off came out the bottom.
-Trichromes on Mace are conservatively 60/40 cloudy to clear with some ignorable amber on the leaves. Meph says 70 days from sprout so we'll see how she looks going into Halloween. The stalk smells of jolly ranchers and gas!
-GG, while not as frosty and looking about a week behind, is continuing to fatten up nicely. From what I've read, she'll really thicken up at the end. ILGM says 56 days from flower, which puts it at 70 days total like Mace. Stalk has the small fruit and gas tones but with a hint of funky cheese!
10/21 - Day 64
-1 more top dressing of the BAS craft nutrient kit. continuing coco water daily.
-Getting closer to chop day! Trichromes are starting to get milky.
10/24 - Day 67
Getting closer! Trichs are mostly milky but waiting for less clear ones. Continuing to fatten up so will let it go as long as the trichs don't degrade too much.
10/31 - Day 74
GG is almost done; she has stopped swelling and drinking as much water. Will evalulate daily for optimum harvest; trichs are still 50/50 clear and mily with only some ambers on the sugar leaves.
Mace Windu continues to swell and turning purple! Will watch closely, but feeling like another week at least.
11/5 - Day 79
Still on daily trich watch! Mace is showing more cloudy but not much amber aside from the longer leaves. Will continue to evaluate daily; already have the dryer and pruners (and the wife!) ready to go!
Great strain for my first time growing autoflowers! Easy to grow but you really need to be attentive to the plant's needs as you have less leeway with autos. In hindsight, I should've topped this plant in addition to LST since I only have a 36" tall grow tent and could've better utilized the available canopy space for a better yield.
What an introduction to Mephisto Genetics! Looking forward to growing more of these, especially if this was just a freebie! Still have a while to go on the cure, but the high is very uplifting! I read alot about how topping autos was bad, but this girl didn't skip a beat and yielded much more than had I not.
@BruceBanner868, search etsy.com for "plant trainer" or "plant bender". If you have a 3d printer or access to one, there are several free plans on thingiverse. Good luck!
