INTRODUCTION
------------------
I'm verry happy to start this diary !! This will be my first non-auto plant.
I'm expecting a lot about it's taste :) I remember of a Sunset Sherbet I smoked once in Amsterdam (De Kade, my fav all time!),
She had the exact "purple" taste i'm Looking for :) 🙏
I have a secondary goal for that diary : Making awesome stereoscopic 3D pictures !
I made some attempts with my "Purple Kush" diary, but will focus on that lady now :)
GROW DETAILS
-----------------
Duration: I don't know yet how long will it stay in veg. I would say at least 7 weeks of veg.
Feeding: Biobizz feeding program, + TopCrop TopCandy and also some homemade soil and composting mix :)
Light: Veg at 18hours/day, outdoor in the day, indoor in the night (or day with bad weather)
Techniques: I *may* perform LST, and I will perform Topping for sure (for the first time).
GERMINATION
-----------------
Seed direct to the 16L fabric pot. First leaves in 4 days. On the 4th day, it started to rain. So I decided to put the pot on the outside, under the rain.
The seed sprouted in one hour ^^ Rain is magic guys 😇.
The plant will be fed ONLY with homemade lentils roots juice until 2nd node.
Wish me good luck 🙏
WEEK DIARY :
DAY 2 : She is verrrrry hairy! She's going to be verry armed for outdoor ^^ (Hairs are a defense, preventing bugs to climb the plant)
Day 4 : The plant is growing higher than all my previous grow. But she is at a good distance of lamp indoor, and she spend time outdoor under the sun too. So i can't do anything about it for now. It's my first non-auto, maybe is that a normal thing for a non-auto... I may add dirt on the top at some point.
Day 8 : Still watering a small amount everyday, before lights turn off. No nutrients, only my lentils juice, to help roots production.
She show no deformation, leaves have a perfect shape. That's something i was used to with auto ^^ She is a bit too tall in my opinion, but she's not stretching anymore. Good.
Still planning to add dirt on the top, to simple solve this. She Spend day outside, the weather is still perfect.
Day 16 : I'm verry confident about this plant ! Every leaf have a perfect shape and colour, she is growing well and fast. I can see new leaves appearing at nodes.
I'm waiting a bit more to perform the topping above node 3, to start a main-lining, for the first time ^^She had her first nutrients feeding this week. 50% of recommended dose.
I will add dirt mixed with homemade composting, just because she stretched a bit too much at the begining. I'm excitied to use my composting ! This will be the first time I'll use it for my cannabis plants. Worked well with veggies already ^^
Day 18 - 19 : I notice the plant is EXTRA happy lol. On the morning, when I take her from the dark to the outside, she's already pointing all the leaves to the sky. I was used to see this with happy plant, after some hours of lights under my led. I'm verry amazed by how much she look good ! And she is growing verry verry fast... I'm going to top her this week (so between week 3 and 4). Probably on day 22.
Day 21 : Day for topping ! Performed above node 3. Leaves at node 1 been removed. I'm going to wait a bit before removing leaves at node 2. Or not. I'm not sure :D Feel free to tell me what you think !
I had nothing to make the "clone" (top cutted) grow roots... But i don't wanted to directly put it to the trash. So I put it in a little pot and... will see 😅
Day 22 : Decided to remove branches and fan leaves from node 2. There is only node 3 now. Good luck my queen !
Day 24 : Watering with a little and ponctual change to the feeding : Replace 1ml Fish-mix by (0.5ml Bio-Grow + 0.5ml Fish-Mix).
I've added one spoon of apple cider vinegar to the watering, since the PH seems too high. But I'm going verry slowly on this, and will try to equilibrate on long-term. Watering with rain is going to help a lot too.
Hi there!
If you are mainlining then you should remove the lower branches now too. If you plan on removing them I suggest that you take the lower branches off at the same time you top your plant. I think it's better to do one bigger stress than keep stressing her little by litle all the time
Happy growing!
Day 30 : I'm now having a pattern for the watering, which is 1L once a week. But i believe that a second watering might be required soon, the lady is growing fast ^^
Lot of rain those days, so I'm storing it to water and feed the plant :) Outdoor is not possible anymore, the climate getting way too cold. She spent the entire week indoor. I may have some nice days next week, but probably for the last time of the year.
The plant look perfect to me right now. She dealt well with the topping, it haven't really slowed her... The 2 new apex growing well (already seeing node 3) GG my Queen !
Performing a little of LST by hands, without hanging for now.
Day 31 : Nope, 1L was too much :D leaves droping this morning. So, next watering : Half a liter, and I'll see.
Day 32 : Plant outside for 4 hours. She is back, and looking good again :)
Day 33 : Another 5 hours outdoor.
Day 34 : 5 hours outdoor, nice weather... I performed True LST today. The plant is ready for the next topping, so I'm getting thoses branches ready and in place, before performing topping on the 2 apex (3th node), before next week.
Day 37 : The day of 2nd toping ! I performed first LST on day 34 to set the plant in place for it. Topped above 3th node of two new apex. Removed everything on node 2 (following Nebula's Manifold method).
And i adjusted the LST today right after the topping. Had to perform LST again 7h later, plant full of energy, was already pointing to the sky again ^^
Day 38 : Added some dirt on the pot, since she was a bit tall to me. Added something like 2cm. Made of gardening soil + some homemade compost. Verry litghtely watered the plant at the base, to tell her she can start new roots ^^
Day 41 : Plant showing some Cal deficiencies since multiple days, but it's getting a bit too much to me right now. I hope the compost gonna help (contain lot of egg shells). I also added some seaweed coccolithes lime (cal/mag) beads on top of the dirt (just 4 lol). And I did a watering + feeding, but still using rain water. I could have used tapewater, forgot about this option. Will consider it at next watering.
Day 42 : The topping slowed down the plant for 4 days. I'm not sure about the cal deficiency effects on that, but anyway, the plant seems to be actively growing again. New leaves looking healty. The 4 new apex starting to stretch for real. Nodes 1 from my mainlining seems not growing equaly, I may need to apply LST on some of them soon.
Day 43 : Decided to flush the soil with water at a ph value of 6.2 - 6.7. I was maybe having a PH issue, and this should fix it. The plant is growing well anyway.
So 10L of water without nutrients, and I'll wait the soil get dry to water and feed again.
Day 44 : Applied LST on Node 1 (so 4 branches) of my mainlining, and adjusted the whole LST. It's also a lucky day : Excellent weather today (19°C in the shadow, bit cold, but hot enough for not being bad for the plant) with a big big sun, helping the pot to dry after the flush from yesterday. The plant seems to enjoy it A LOT. All the leaves praying to the sky ^^. It's funny to see how she preffer sun to indoor lights.
Day 45 : Note to myself: Decided to start flowering at week 10. So harvest arround week 18. This happend to be on December 31th 😆 (really not on purpose, definitly an accident. But Fine :D)
Day 48 : New LST session, so every nodes are at the same height. (Except for Node 1 -> Node1). She have a verry good looking symmetry right now. Love the perfect shape of it :D Plant looking great, and the pot got lighter. I may been abble to water and feed in less than an week.
Day 49 : Did a bit of defoliation on the center of the plant. (removed 3 leaves) to allow "Nodes 1 -> Nodes 1" to receive light. Also removed the 2 bottom leaves that wasn't receiving light anymore, and that got yellow. Adjusting LST.
Day 50 : Watering and feeding! 1L. She had no feeding for ~10 days, because I did a flush last week to fix a PH issue. So I'm back on feeding schedule now.
Day 52 : The plant looking verry good. I notice the pot is getting lighter faster than before, that is a good sign 😀 Every branchs seems to grow at the same speed... And It's actually a damn node Heaven 😅 There is so much new growth everywhere...
I was planning to start flowering in 2 weeks, I think she will be 200% ready for that!
Day 53 : Found some nymph thrips. I'll get some black soap tomorrow and spray the plant. I spent like 15 minutes checking plant, don't found a lot... maybe 5. So it's definitly easy to stop if I act right now.
Day 54 : Got black soap. Sprayed 3 times. 1st time with only water. And then 2 times with black soap water.
Day 55 : Can't find any thrips. But they are still ready to get back, so I'll continue to spray time to time until flowering. Plant had 3 hours of outdoor sun today (reaching 18.5°C in the shadow).
Day 56 : Can't find any thrips, but sprayed with black soap again. NO PASARAN Thrips !!!! 💀💀👻
Day 58 : Performed what might be the last big LST session, to make the plant flat as much as possible. The last one, because I'll start flowering on next week 😁 So I believe that all next LST session will just be to keep everything a the same eight, but I will not force the plant to be flat anymore. I was also supposed to apply black soap for the last time today, and continue with water for one or two weeks. But i saw one thrip, so I may continue for one week, and apply only water later. But the plant isn't showing any signs of bugs bites, so they are under control I believe. I also got one bottle of biobizz leaf coat, that I'll apply later ;)
Damn.. I'm so excited to start the flowering :D She look verry great right now, I'm verry confident with this plant :) Taking care of it is a pleasure, even if it take me one hour to apply LST 😆
Day 60 : Watering and feeding plant, and applied black soap for thrips.
Day 61 : Did some Defoliation : Removed dying leaves not receiving light.
Day 62 : Spray water + Fishmix (1.6ml/L). This is going to feed the plant by the leaves, and also clean leaves from any thrips. Haven't seen any thrips since like 3 days... But you know how they are ;)
FLOWERING START
-----------------------
On day 64, the lamp been set closer to the plant, and light schedule is now 12/12. I hope she will start to flower soon :D
Day 68 : A little bit of defoliation again. Only the dying leaves, the one who not receive light anymore. I can't see thrips anymore, which is a verry good thing ^^
"Biobizz - Leaf coat" will help to keep the plant bugs free I believe. I applied it today. Also adjusted (just a little) LST to make every branch at the same height.
Day 73 - Well, good news : after one week of 12/12, she seems to start flowering :) Per-fect ! 🙌
Flushed the soil with something like 10L of water (ph 6.2 - 6.5). Because I noticed some burnt leaves tips. This was not appening on newest leaves, but I was effraid plant could be slowed down because of too much nuts.
I will not use Fish-mix anymore anyway. I wanted to do like a transition between Fish-mix and Bio-grow, as suggested by Biobizz, but the soil must be loaded with nutients.
Funny thing : When I topped the plant on week 4, I decided to put the cut part of the plant in dirt, instead of putting it to the trash. Just the branch in dirt, with water and a bit of home-made lentils sprout juice... And It worked 😆 She made lot of roots, started to grow again. She's in a new pot now, I will take pictures of it during the week. Amazing to see it can work without any special treatment 😅
BIG UPDATE THIS WEEK !!!
----------------------------------
FEEDING MISTAKE / TRANSPLANTING THE PLANT
-------------------------------------------------------
Last week, the plant was showing some feeding issue (some burned tips).
After discussing with another grower ( @Asnoriu ) and carefully listening his advices, I decided to transplant the queen to a bigger pot.
16L can be ok, but I had a long veg (10 weeks), and this was getting too small for the lady. So starting from now, I will always transplant before flowering, since I understood & learned how it help the plant to develop good roots network.
The plant probably suffered from too much feeding with Fish-mix. Asnoriu told me He was using it at 50% of the recommend dose, and not at each watering.
This totally make sense, especially when i look back at my first grow : I used no fish-mix during almost all the veg, and she grow verry well. My gardening soil was probably rich enough for my plants!
I transplanted the plant to a bigger pot (16L -> 30L) and filled the new pot with Biobizz All-Mix soil.
I took the plant from the old fabric pot like if it was a sock : what a niiiice and easy technic ! (Thanks again Asnoriu).
Watered with pure water (ph at 6.2-6.5), without any nutrients (All-mix is already rich enough). I will feed again in 1-2 weeks.
BIG ERROR WHEN APPLYING LST BACK IN THE NEW POT
---------------------------------------------------------------
I had to remove my strings (LST) to switch to the new Pot. When I was applying the LST again in the new pot, I went too far with tension... And the main-lining broke 😟
So I fixed it verrry quickly by releasing LST tension, and using a string to tight the stem where it broke. In less than 5 minutes it was fixed.
I was verry worried that it may have killed my queen.... But she didn't shown any sign of stunt, and 48h hours later, I can say that she look verry good. This doesn't slowed her.
She seems to grow faster since transplant, so all good :) So, note to myself : never try to LST when flowering started, or only verry carefully, with just littles adjustements.
SPONSORSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT & LIGHT + TENT UPGRADE
--------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm verry proud to announce that Mars Hydro ( @MarsHydroLED ) decided to sponsor me :)
So I received a TSW2000 (basically 2X the output of a TS1000), and a Mars Hydro tent (100cm x 100cm x 180cm)
That's PER-FECT, since I was already using a TS1000, which I bought because it was the best deal (price/quality) for me.
I'm verrrrry happy about it, and I feel verry lucky to be selected by Mars Hydro 🙌 This mean a lot to me. I still have a lot to learn, but I'm doing my best to improve myself and learn. Learning from the other, and sharing my experience, and being rewarded for that...
Damn, so cool 😍
MENTION
-----------
Once again, thanks a lot @Asnoriu
You are MY grower of the month, for sharing your ideas, opinions, and advices with me :)
WEEK DETAILS
----------------
- Day 79 : Watering 1L (ph 6.2 - 6.5) with feeding (as detailed in the week details)
- Day 82 : Transplanting from 16L pot to 30L pot. Broke stem, and repared it. Upgraded from Mars Hydro TS1000 to TSW2000 (2x more powerfull). Watered with pure water.
- Day 84 : Plant look verry great, and seems to stretch & flower faster :)
Nice & Easy week :)
She is definitly in good shape, the rempoting was definitly a good decision :)
Day 88 : Watering and feeding. No Bio-Grow this time (rempoted with fresh "All-mix" last week so she will be fine)
Day 89 : Defoliation. But I'm going Easy on this, just removing fan leave that really prevent some buds to receive light. either way, I preffer to leave it. In case of doubt : I leave it too 😇
Day 90 : Removed the repair made of string and tape applied to the stem. She healed, and needed to expand. I made sure I had no big tension on LST and removed the string slowly like a surgery 😁 Remaining strings for LST are kind of useless now, there is almost no tension.
I don't want to take the risk of breaking the plant again. Hopefully, branch will continue to grow at the same height. For now, it's kind of almost perfect 😏
*** Smell ***
Guys... I felt some hint of the smell I'm looking for since months !!!! 😍
It may be my brain fucki** with me, but... I'm so excited !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Queen is definitly in good shape, and look stronger days after days... The leaves have a better color, not that lime green anymore, thanks to the rempoting in a 30L pot with fresh All-mix from Biobizz :)
There is a HUGE amount of bud sites, this is incredible. I'm trying to defoliate,, but I'm to the point buds making shadow to other buds... So I'm doing my best, removing what can be removed.
Lot of leaves showing trichomes, even big ones, It's also verry impressive... I will definitly be abble to make some hash out of the trim.
I never did that before, so that's a new process I need to learn. I will probably set the trim to the freezer and see this later.
I'm providing only 50% of recommended dose of Bio-grow and bio-bloom for now. I'll increase the dose slowly with next feedings.
Day 98 : Saw a dammmmn thrips. Only one, but the plant is so big that it's definitly impossible to check everywhere. I really wonder how he can survive in this trichome amazonia 😅
I applied Bio-bizz leaf coat on the plant, I hope this will keep thrips under control. But at this stage, there is nothing I can really do.
But the plant is strong, I'm sure she's going to win this fight ^^
Another easy week for my Queen!
Buds getting more dense, lot of new pistils appeared.
I didn't performed any more defoliation, nothing could be improved on this in my opinion.
As suggested by my friend @ASNoriu I'm not feeding with bio-grow anymore.
She been feeded with a lot of fish-mix during veg, and been transplanted in fresh all-mix soil at the beggining of flowering, this might be enough.
Haven't seen thrips since last week. It seems the plant, with the help of Leaf-Coat (biobizz), defend herselve and won the fight.
Little improvement: I got an electronical PH tester, which give me way more accurates values than PH paper. This allow me to get to PH 6.2, and not being arround ~PH 6.5~.
I'm also using Biobizz PH-, instead of white vinegar. Way more potent, but more stable! (I had to wait multiple hours to get ph stabilized when using white vinegar).
She's drinking way more water since 2 weeks. Before transplant, I was watering like 3 Litters every week. Now I'm arround 6 Litters / week.
Next week, I'll increase Top-Max / Bio-bloom / Top-Candy / Bio-Heaven, using 75% of the recommended dose in Biobizz Program.
Buds getting more dense days after days. Im not seeinn thrips anymore, that's a good thing!
Some leaves are starting to turn yellow, that's a normal thing at this stage I believe.
Some pistils starting to turn red... Probably 2-3 weeks remaining? Harvest is soon my friends.
Can't wait to taste my super queen 😍
Day 106 : watering with nutrients, at 75% of the quantities set in the week diary. Did a bit of defoliation for the central buds that grow in the center of the plant, and also some leaves between apex.
But I still have lot of leaves, I don't want to go too far with defoliation.
Day 110 : Watering with nutrients again, as set in the diary + 1ml/L of Bio-grow, because I feel the plant need it (leaves are less dark green)
Fun fact : I tasted a cut leave (putting it in my mouth, not smoking it 😜) and it has the taste of Gelato + the "purple" taste I'm looking for ^^ But well, I can't really count on that ^^
Day 119 : I decided to feed some bio-grow (1ML) since the plant started to show deficiencies a bit too soon to me. Bottom leaves turning yellow. It's not a problem since I'm in late flowering, but this happend some days too soon to me ^^.
I planned not to use it anymore, but I decided to have a little feeding with it.
Day 123 : Feeding at 75% of the doses written in the diary, for Bio-Heaven / Bio-Bloom / Top-Max / Top-Candy, and only 33% for Bio-grow (0.33 ml/L).
I believe the plant will have one or two last feeding before harvest. So,something like 75% of what you can see here, and no more bio-grow until the end.
REMAINING TIME / HARVEST
--------------------------------
I'm going to start to check trichomes in the next days, because the plant looks almost done. Pistils turning brown, not really fattening that much anymore...
Today It's day 123, and it's already the 8th week of flowering. This strain is supposed to be ready between week 7 and week 9 of flowering.
So there is something like 10 days remaining before harvest, not more I think. I'm going to wait for the 30% of amber trichomes.
BUGS / INSECTS IN GROWING TENT
---------------------------------------
I removed one Pepper plant that I had in my tent. She was done and gave me some nice and strong chilli pepper.
But I noticed some larva in the bottom of the pot when getting the dirt out of it. Probably thrips larva, but I can't tell. This plant spent lot of time on the outdoor....
AND crazy thing : a damn big ant! I wonder if it was a queen! She was alive, hidden in the bottom of the pot, not verry active. But i never saw ants in my grow tent!
This dirt is now on the outside, been flushed and mixed with some older dirt, including juicy earthworms, to be reused later :)
But I must say i'm not verry sure to use it for indoor grow in the futur, I'm worried of creating futur bugs issues... So maybe I'll use it only for outdoor plants of my garden.
NEXT GROW SESSION / STRAIN SELECTION
------------------------------------------------
If my Queen (current grow / Sherbet Queen) provide the exact taste I'm looking for, I'll do a re-run of it :)
And I'll start also a Legendary OG Punch from Royal Queen Seeds. This is my next try for my Taste Hunt :)
So 1 Sherbet Queen + 1 Legendary OG Punch / OR / 2 Legendary OG Punch, depending of the result of the harvest of my current grow.
And additionnaly, a Blueberry Auto from PevSeeds. So 3 plants !
Happy Christmas everyone :)
New Year is soon, my Queen will not be ready for 2020 as expected, but she will be my best friend to start 2021 :)
Hey Hey Hey, still not ready for harvest 😅
Leaves turning yellow, most of the trichomes are cloudy. I can see some amber, but definitly not enough for harvest.
But it's just a matter of days now. I hope I'll be abble to harvest in the next days, to have a chance to participate to the diary of the year contest ^^
I stopped to feed the plant, and I'm watering with snow water (I put it in a bucket, let it melt and take room temp, and PH it to 6.5).
Do you think she can be rady in the next 7 days :) ? Have a guess in the comments 😊
This plant is my 3th attempt, trying to find a specific taste I'm searching since I started to grow, in 2020.
Plant just been harvested. Now it gonna need some more weeks of drying and curing, before I can finally evaluate the taste 😍
So, for now, I can only talk about the grow, and I'll edit my diary later.
10 weeks of flowering (total 20 weeks), this was a long run!
Royal Queen Seeds say that strain usually take 7 to 9 weeks of flowering.
Mine took a bit longer.
She was absolutely the easiest plant I ever grown.
She never shown big sign of deficiencies. She germinated fast (seed direct to the pot).
I applied main-lining method (Nebula's / Topping at node 3, then node 3 again) and performed LST during the growth.
She perfectly dealt with it, never slowed by the toppings. I remember that she took less than 10 hours to recover from second topping, and re-allign every branchs to the light, after LST.
This was insane to me.
I did some mistakes during the grow :
1) Excess of Biobizz - Fishmix during grow, until early flowering. This been fixed by following the advices from @AsNoriu who suggested to transplant the Queen to a new pot.
So she moved from a 16L to a 30L during 2nd week of flowering. This was risky, it's not really recommended to transplant during flowering.... But the risk at to be taken.
And she totally did good. One week later, she was looking way more healthy. 2 weeks later, she was on fire!!!
2) I brook the main cola, same week than the transplant. I was trying to apply the LST again. A bit too much of tension, and Crack!
Quickly fixed. The plant don't even realized. She don't slowed bad signs, and continued to grow perfectly.
She spent some weeks outdoor during Veg.
And this is how i got some thrips problem during end of veg. I sprayed black soap, then water, and then Biobizz - Leafcoat.
This got rid of mainly all thrips. I was still seeing one or two begining of flowering, so I continued to use water and biobizz - Leafcoat.
But as she was flowering, she started to get totally covered of trichomes, even on fan leaves, and under the leaves. Thrips had no chance there.
So the plant ended this problem by herself, and I don't had to spray anything during flowering, and never saw thrips again ^^
