Season 2020. It’s back on!! Finally I have some babies going again after what feels like ages of waiting for winter to end. I have gone a bit early, but the temps have really improved, and I am using a night light to extend the daylight hours. I underachieved with fruit spirit last time, and suffered in the heat of summer, so it’s time for revenge. Even though I only got a small amount, I loved it. Tasty, sour and strong and good lineage being out of blueberry and white widow. I really wanted to try some new ones, but I have had no luck obtaining seeds to my area with COVID and other issues preventing my orders arriving from my Seedbank, so i go around again with a couple of favourites from last season. 🍻
Week 2. Fruit is powering along. It has sailed past the jack Herer I have which is a week older. Some unusual shaped leaves in the beginning, but I will put this down to getting into stride. Nice deep green and really happy. I haven’t had much luck with my last 2 fruit seeds but I feel like this might be a good one. Really handles outdoor well as a seedling. So far so good. 🍻
Week 3. Fruit is going really nicely. Healthy, deep green and plenty of growth through the week. It’s not very spread out and the leaves are all quite close together. Probably normal for this strain I guess, but topped just after the pics for the first time in the hope it spreads out a bit from here. Another week of nice weather, a few showers here and there, ideal. Might begin the nutes this week. I’m heading away for a few days so they will go into a mates care till next weekend. 🍻
Week 4. Fruit has recovered well from topping and the new growths are growing nicely. Hoping she stays in veg for one more topping before she flips and I am using an LED solar light to keep it vegging out. Transplanted this week into a 25l pot. You can’t see it in the pics because I sunk it into the garden bed and spread some mulch over to camouflage her in the rest of the garden. I’m really happy to have some beautiful fresh worm soil from the compost bin and I have already seen what a difference this stuff can make. I made a few mistakes early, in particular I had my indoor light too close to the plants in the early weeks. This resulted in some unusual shaped leaves and bunched foliage. Hoping to just put it into a routine now and leave it be, not always easy outdoor when you have guests, or the wife asks to move it away at times. Still, you can only do your best I suppose. 🍻
Week 5. Fruit is going really well for now. Seems to be loving the new home, and has really put on the vertical growth. The tops have stretched nicely and have already developed a further 3 sets in the week gone, so today she has had her 2nd and final topping. I have also begun to include some fish emulsion and some worm concentrate in very diluted doses to begin with. She seems very healthy and happy for now. One more week with the solar light next to her then I will remove it and hope to get her in flower for an early finish, or at least that is the plan anyway. Thanks for visiting 🍻
Week 6. Fruit is finally on the move I feel. Much more advanced from last week. She seemed big enough for tying down and exposing the lower growths, and it seemed to change from the next day. Healthy growths are pooping up all around. She has her preflowers as I suspected so i intend to reduce light hours manually to finish out early. Instead of bringing in nightly, I bought another compost bin that is just the right size to slot over in the afternoon, it’s only needed for about 30 mins a night at the moment. This week I have been getting into benefits of worm castings and making teas. I had my first crack at a basic brew using my own worm castings from my worm compost bin, with back strap molasses, a little of kelp and coconut oil. Bubbled for 24hrs, then strained and used immediately. I have to say I think it was pretty good. It smelled really nice in the end, very tea like, so I reckon that’s a good sign. Thanks for visiting 🍻
Week 7. Fruit is coming along nicely. It’s not gonna be a big one due to the forced flowering, but it has had a good fill out in the last 2 weeks and appears to be on track to give me a nice early harvest. I am really happy with the staggered grow this year. Apart from 2 dud seeds early, everything has gone to plan. Wouldn’t mind this one a bit bigger, but you never know. Buds are happening on cue. It looks like it will be about a 12 week finish so about 5ish to go. After that, the idea is for the scrog basket to go on my jack and then flower him out as well with covering nightly. Shortly the main grows will be put out for the full season grow and hoping to beat my PB this time around. But for now, this one is one track to deliver a jar full, and just in the nick of time too,,, 🍻
Week 8. Fruit has busted out of his cage!! Actually I just decided to take it off as it was getting a bit cluttered in there. Once removed, fruit held its shape really well. I drilled some holes in the rim of the pot and added some new ties just to spread things out a bit. I am really happy with the way it’s coming along now. Buds are swelling and I am on track for a nice (and much needed) early harvest in a few more weeks. Some of the pistils are already changing colour. Hoping to see some of those lower buds join up with the tops in coming weeks. All good here, thanks all for visiting! 🍻
Week 9. Fruit seems to be doing well enough. Just starting to get some nice smell to it. She’s only little but a pretty plant never the less. Gave Her a nice big haircut today to open the middle up. It is a bushy short plant with lots of leaves shuffled together. Nice buds starting to swell up and join up along the branches. So far so good 🍻
Week 10. Fruit spirit is rounding out nicely. Only a short ass model, but the buds are really starting to thicken up and smell nice! I can really see the white widow with the dome like buds on top and the leaves all shuffled in real close, as well as the blueish colour and sweet smell from the blueberry. So it will be quality over quantity here. Getting there now, less than 2 weeks to go I reckon and it will be the first stash for the year. Also @Smartie this is the shade I was working on, it’s a knock up wedding marque I got online and then bought a shade tarp with eyelets from the camping store, then tied it all together with cable ties!! It spreads about 2m arched so should be good for the heat of summer when it arrives! Thanks for visiting all, 🍻
Week 11. Fruity is just about done, about a week to go I reckon. More ambers are appearing every day. It’s been bitter sweet with this little fella as I would have liked to get it a bit bigger, but it was always a bit weird as a seedling and started flowering so early. Still, I have a good feeling about the quality if the sweet smell is anything to go by. It’s a nice looking plant really with nice nuggety buds. One really weird bud pictured kind of looks like a mohawk and has stacks of leaves shuffled in under it, really different to all the rest. All in all it will be good to get a jar of buds right in time for the holidays! 🍻
Week 12. Fruity is pretty much ready! Enough ambers starting to show up on the close up pics, pretty much just how I like it. So she will get the chop and next update will be harvest.
Fruit has been easy enough to grow but the end result will determine whether I give it another go or not. I’m sure I screwed up the soil again! Last year I went with organic soil but didn’t add enough food and it didn’t do well. This year I went organic again but with worm castings. Probably too much which made it flower real early and at the moment, even though I have a mulch on top, the soil has such a firm crust I can hardly push my finger into it.
So mistakes on my behalf for sure kept it small, but I feel like it’s gonna be some nice shit. 🍻
Fruit spirit is a great addition to my grow experiences. I had a crack late in the season last year and did not do well, so it was sweet to get some revenge and get an improved result. Although small in stature, it surprised me with a better than expected yield in the end. I made mistakes along the way, and could have done better with the soil which may have helped the overall result. Aside from my own mistakes, I am happy to score the Fruit Spirit a 9 out of 10 because...
Seeds 7/10 - This was the only real let down. Of 3 seeds this was the only one that worked well. In the first few weeks I could see some unusual shapes of leaves and branches. After topping and LST some branches had some unusual development, some didn’t develop well, others were perfect. One of the buds was so different to the rest, really dense and shaggy looking.
Grow 8/10 - Apart from my own mistakes with getting the soil right, it was pretty much hassle free and on track. It is only small, but it was 12/12 as I planted early in the season to get it through quickly. It handled all weather conditions with not a shred of mould and no bugs!
Buds 10/10 - Overwhelmingly the best part of Fruit Spirit is the awesome end result. Nice thick buds with a lovely smell. The yield ended up quite a bit more than I was guessing. But it’s the taste that gets a clear 10/10. With white widow and blueberry heritage, it could possibly be the nicest tasting bud I’ve tried to date. So smooth and sweet, even before cure. Packs a real punch too. The next morning, very clear and no stoneover. Can’t say enough for that beautiful taste.
Overall Fruit Spirit has been an excellent grow. No hassles really, no rot or pests. A decent yield, in fact perfect for me. But it’s the taste that is most memorable. I wasn’t sure if I would give fruit another go after this one, and I said earlier that it would be the end result which would determine this. Well after my first smoke I may have changed my mind big time. It is different to the rest, even before cure. I hope it doesn’t drop away after the cure because it is just flat out delicious!!
Ooow yes 😲😎
That looks good hey! Plant and shade house!
Much better than my box, at least that this is arched. I can mock around doing the sides to get that arched shape 😂
I see now why you think my joint is away from prying eyes too lol
Well done mate 👍
Hell yeah boy!! 👍😎 What happened with shake and mix diluted leachate and castings?? 😁😂 Glad you looked into it, any noticeable differences after 24h brewing/before use vs before?? Very nice job on the LST structure, well done sir! 👍
@Shooey, if it was already booming with the leachate (or did you mean the aerated tea?) regardless you are in for a treat my friend 👍 Looking forward to seeing the results!! Good man ✌️
@Smartie, thanks mate. Yeah after you mentioned the leachate I looked into it. It seems to have its place but you want to be careful with it. The bottle I got from a relative seemed to help but when I opened it the other day it reeked badly. I knew immediately not to use it anymore. I found a good podcast called grow from the heart, these guys from Colorado talk about growing. They get a bit carried away but the organic and outdoor episodes had so much info. They keep coming back to worm castings and how they really stand alone against any bottled formulas. It has really boomed, to the point where I wonder if the tea was a bit “hot” because of all the bright green bursting from the new areas. Will keep learning and adjusting quantities to find my sweet spot.
Also on the LST,, it’s a $5 laundry basket from Kmart! I just cut the prongs open on the bottom and fold out. These spike into the soil and hold it in place. It’s so handy mate,,. This plant might not reach the scrog wire at the top, but it helps support and spread em out.
Cheers Smartie! 🍻
