This is my first time growing in California and even in the US.
We started out with planting one Death Row and one Ocasio Cortez (2 middle plants, DR right, OC left) and a few Sour Tangie from seeds. Then we had to move and brought with us the first two and got 2 seedlings of Legend OG x Purple Punch as well as 2 Kush Mints x Strawnana (bottom). These 4 plants went through a heat shock in the car when we got them.
We then got 2 clones : Waffle Cone and Life Hack(top).
All of them were transplanted from their original pots this week, using Black Gold soil and Mykos.
This week, a new clone has arrived : Cherry Limeade !
I only have one picture to show you guys, cause at that time, I wasn't planning on doing a diary. Death Row and Ocasio-Cortez are both doing good, and the 4 seedlimgs (LOGxPP and KMxS) are way better than they used to be after being stressed out during the trip from their first home.
This will also be their first feed.
These are the first pictures I took this year.
Everyone is well settled this week, so we took our time to prepare their next home, some 65 Gal pots and some 100 Gal. It's mix of some Kings mix and bulk soil we bought in our town, amended with Chicken Manure, Earthworm Castings, Gypsum, Bone Meal and Bat Guano.
Death Row is strong and only wants to grow as much as she can, despise that light green. We decided to move all the pots to a more convenient spot, it looks very good now, just need to work on the irrigation system and on the trellising next.
Everyone is doing great this week. We keep on working on their new home, planting T posts and putting up the first netting, three layers to start with.
Our 2 Gelato 41 clones just arrived in their new home. The number is becoming an issue...
The defoliation (not pictured) at the end of the week was our first mistake, you will see why the next week...
Transplanted Death Row, the 2 Gelato 41s as well as the 3 clones we got (WC, LH, CL). Some are in 65 Gal (DR, LH, CL) pots and others in 100 Gal (G41, WC). We used Mykos and Azos for transplanting.
Unfortunately, the defoliation and I think too much watering got them to stagnate for a while.
So big changes in 10 days, after lots of thinking we decided to take out the "3 clones" from the big pots and put them in 5 Gal pots (along with the 4 other seedlings - LOG x PP and KM x S) for now because new babies are in town and more interesting for us!
So we got 3 Valley Girl's, for which we decided to add new pots : one 150 Gal pot for 2 of them and the other one will go in a 45 Gal filled with respectively Kings mix and a mix of FF Ocean forest and Happy frog for the small one. Both are amended as usual (see week 4). We replaced our trilogy of clones by some Bubba on dabs, well actually 7 Bubba on dabs...
Death Row is already feeling a lot better, the others not so much, although they had just been transplanted.
We started spraying Verde from Humboldts Nutrient, as well as CalCarb from Xnutrients (not at the same time).
At this point you can tell, the number is becoming a big issue.
This week all the plants are looking better, we think it is because the Hormex we've been giving them and the Verde we started spraying did its job. The weather is also better than the previous week, we probably should have waited a bit for the transplant. But it's looking pretty good.
Top dressed with Marine Cuisine and Gypsum, along with Bu's compost.
Everything is pretty much going great, all the girls are loving the sun and looking healthy. We've been topping them (a lot) and defoliating under the first net.
Death Row looks kinda sad on the picture I took that day but I can assure you we took could care of it. Otherwise the topping continues, we topped dressed with our same combo (Marine cuisine, Gypsum, Compost). We also took some clones from Death Row.
Our plants are now taller than expected and we have to add bamboos and another layer of netting. Quit some work ahead of us. And the saddest part of the year until then, killing our plants that you see in 5 Gal pots in the middle, especially Ocasio-Cortez that we sprouted in the beginning along with Death Row. Too much trouble for us.
We added the trellis that we needed and got rid of our small plants. The others though, still going crazy !
This time in our weekly feeding I added Humboldt's Honey for the first time, I've been told afterwards that it actually kills some beneficial bacteria, true? (I stopped anyway).
We also flushed our soil with SledgeHammer.
This week we are adding Open Sesame in our food in order to launch the transition, Death Row has already started showing signs of bud (early bird?).
We switched our root supplement for H&G's Roots Excelurator, which is I think a good choice.
First week of flowering going good.
We've been clearing the inside of all the plants (even though we started a while ago) and it's looking good, nice bush like we wanted. We're kinda thinking about extending the height of the bamboos though and adding another net. (And yes the Bubba on Dab look thirsty on the picture)
We watered our plants with Hygrozyme at the beginning of the week and flushed for the second time using SledgeHammer 2 days later.
Serious shooting for the girls this week, picture and food wise ! We switched some (for this year) of our blooming products to Dyna Gro cause we want to get out of FF and Monsanto, plus it's cheaper.
Added a few flowering additives and started spraying Kelp (0-0-17) every week.
This week catastrophe ! Everything was going well and we went to another garden who had aphids. We were careful, changed clothes and took a shower before going to see the girls but still we got them. We are currently battling them with organic pesticides. We were using the Amazing Dr Zymes for the entire grow, didn't work so we are trying Plant therapy. Thinking about going to something tougher before it gets too crowded on dem girls...
Other than this, we added another layer of trellis and the buds are getting all snowy on Death Row !
Finally got rid of these f'ing aphids !!
The weather is very tough this week, the smoke from the wildfires covers most of the sky pretty much everyday, so no sun and sometimes the temperatures get cold. I was able to get some decent pictures at the beginning of the week and this afternoon.
Other than that, the girls are healthy, we fixed a small calcium deficiency with some top dressing at the beginning of the week : Crab Meal and Gypsum. We also added Seabird Guano, Bone Meal and Kelp Meal in the mix.
The trellising work continues but pretty much done now.
Another tough week for the girls, the smoke in the sky from the wildfires is just starting to clear out and I was able to get nice pictures today. Otherwise, it has been raining ashes and that's why you can see some on a few pictures. We have been able to wash them off when spraying the Dr Zymes but hopefully it won't do it again...
Other than that they are looking pretty good I would say. We do have top sugar leaves on the Bubba on Dubs that bend and form hooks (don't really know why...) but buds are looking nice even though they still have a long way to go... Death Row is getting there, we are getting ready for her harvest.
We started brewing some compost tea on Sunday and gave it to the girls on Monday, in-between two regular feedings (we wanted to do that at the beginning, at least do compost tea every 2 weeks and "chemical" feed every 2 others).
Compost tea ingredients : Earthworm castings, Compost, Kelp, Mykos, Fish Hydrosolate, Molasses, Humic Acid & Glacial Rock Dust.
Had to fix a calcium deficiency again on the Gelato 41s, top dressed with Gypsum.
A very nice week for the girls this one. We've been working a lot so couldn't take any pictures except for Thursday and today so Saturday.
Death Row is showing her true colors, she will be purple ! Kinda makes sense since it's a crossing between Old Family Purple x Black Death. We love it !
Everyone else is budding as f**k !
We will be starting Death Row's flush on Sunday with FF's SledgeHammer and then plain PHed water. Planning on harvesting her around the 2nd or 3rd of october probably. We need to get the dryer ready and gather all the equipment.
First harvest of the season today, Death Row is (almost) no more !
We've been flushing her all week and used some FF SledgeHammer at the beginning of the week. Some pistils are still white but we're starting to have a tiny bit of mold and in the microscope, it looks perfect ! Trichomes are amber around 10-15%, that'll do, we don't want to risk getting anymore mold.
This week's post has the measures and the feeding recipe of the Valley Girls since they are the most likely to be ready next.
Leaves are becoming very yellow on some plants, probably because of the end is near but i've read that H&G Top Booster encourages it... Not sure I'll recommend this particular fertilizer...
The smell of it for now is incredible, gassy and sweet at the same time... Can't wait to smoke it cause for now the entire house stinks ! We don't have a scale big enough to weight the plant wet unfortunately but I'll edit the post with other info later.
Update : 4 days after the harvest the buds are dry enough, we took them out of the dryer and put them in a tote still on their branches. We will open the tote every day until ready to buck down.
Update : DR is now curing. 412g in a tin box and the rest in jars. I made some Bubble hash with the trim and the smalls we had, I'll let you know the numbers when it's dry.
This week was still very smoky but the rain came finally to help get rid of those fires and the sky also starts to clear out.
Started flushing the Valley Girls and harvest has started (will be posting about it soon).
The measures and the food is about the Gelato 41s, they will be harvested next.
Death Row is gonna get trimmed probably tomorrow so I'll update the post ! Such a great smoke !
We had to make the dryer quit bigger to fit all of the Valley Girls, we used some netting and also the wires that were already there. There are two fans blowing full speed and a small dehumidifier.
Finally finished trimming the Valley Girl, Kind of hard to do and we were very busy. We are at 2,204g on the three plants plus a Turkey bag of smalls. The smell and the taste are incredible! Thanks again Terpinator!
I did some Bubble hash a couple weeks ago, I dried and cut some for regular Bubble hash and I only dry-pressed the other half to try it out. Probably the best aromas I have seen in hash...
Sorry I haven't posted in a while, very busy these days, hardly any time to take some pictures but here's a few.
We harvested the Gelato 41s first and let the Bubba on Dubs ripe for another short week.
As usual, started flushing with some SledgeHammer from FF and then with plain water every two days.
The dryer is full again. We harvested a second cut on the Death Row, first sheet of trellis on the picture.
We are currently trimming our Valley Girl, I'll let you know how does it go.
Well for this strain, the dryer has now become the entire room, we added, two other fans and another dehumidifier. The house smells very strongly of citrus!
