First time grower so I built a little grow hut out of materials from home and put it in my basement. I also bought a Kush Grow Kit because I had no idea where to start. So excited to finally have it up and running. Cannot wait to get tips from other growers and rock this grow!!

Day 12- well I decided to give the girls a makeover tonight. I wasnt liking the lack of water around the roots so I removed the grow rocks from underneath the rockwool. Since I was rearranging them anyways I decided to remove the rocks with the white tops. A few of them had fuzzy mold so I don't want them around the babies. The ph dropped again to under 5. I can't find a happy range yet. I left it alone today. Also moved the bubble stone because it only bubbles along 1 inch of the 12 inch stone apparently. It's getting pretty humid in there so I have the fan running now. Hope they get happy soon! Day 10- plants are growing nicely but I notice a tad bit of yellow where the leaves meet the stem and my leaves look droopy but they are strong. Any ideas? My ph somehow jumped to 7.0 so I just added some lower agent to get that down in the 5.4 range. Why would the ph change in 2 days if I did nothing to them? Also decided to add an extra hour of rest to their schedule so 22/2 now. Am I worrying too much or should I adjust something else to get those leaves pointing straight? Day 8- Week 2 already! Well I had to work on lowering my ph last week because the test strip was showing it in the 7 range. I decided to buy an actual ph meter and found the ph is actually at 3.9 ish. So now I will see what the real ph of my tapwater is without the lowering agent. Each plant is doing great. They are strong with darker green leaves and look promising. I'm excited to see the growth this week and start using nutrients next week! I love getting the advice from other growers thus far and getting to watch their growing ops. Seeing the seedlings come up is truly an accomplished feeling. Will update as the week goes on.

Day 20-I decided to add a thermometer with a humidity reading. Also ran the fan for half the day. The ph was at 6.8. I didn't like that so I added some ph down. It never says how much each dose will lower it. Any ideas? My plan is to completely empty the reservoir tonight and start with tap water instead of bottled. Hoping for an easy fix! Big changes this week. The girls got their first taste of nutrients this week. Instructions called for 1/4 tsp per gallon. It's a 10 gallon container and I was told to start with 1/10th of the recommended amount so they got 1/4 tsp to start. I also raised the light to 8 inches and started misting the leaves with water. My ph has settled at 6.4 and I'm so tired of messing with it so I'm going to leave it be for now. I may or may not have been using the ph meter incorrectly before by thinking I would get an instant reading. Turns out that isn't the case. I also added some magnetic strips to my 'door' in hopes that it would keep it sealed better and raise the humidity. I might need to extend those to the sides if I want the affect to be noticeable. Can't wait to see how they like the food!

Day 27-PH is now down into the 3.7 range. why In can't get it to stay in the 5.6 range is beyond me and I'm pretty fed up with it. I plan to purchase the Advanced Nutrients PH Perfect in the next few days. I dont like how the plants are looking and growth seems to have slowed instead of progressing. This mom is not happy about it. Day 24-I finally got time to replace the water in the reservoir. I cleaned it as well because it seemed to have a layer of grossness throughout. Plants went back in with 1/2 tsp of nutrients this time. PH was still up over 7 with the new water so I also added 1 capful of ph down. s

Day 35-Changed the water to RO water on my lunch today. 5.7 ph and 3.58ml of each nutrient part. Fingers crossed for a quick turnaround on these girls! Day 34-I was gonna change my water...but I got high. Well I decided to visit my local hydro store for some nutrients. After talking to the guy for 30 minutes...high of course, I decided on Advanced Nutrients ph perfect Connoisseur. Saturday I started using the Grow Part A&B. I checked the ph (using a sample this time) after 30 minutes and it hadn't moved from the 7.3 spot. I added some ph down and checked it after another half hour. BOOM! This woman finally got the ph to 5.6!!!! I was so happy. Now its Monday (Day 34?) I'm so lost on the day I should've started counting and what not. I just checked the ph and it was at 6.5. Well I think that's ok because I think I read that it means the roots are using nutrients. I have added some ph down but I'm wondering how often I should be feeding them? I'm also strongly leaning towards getting some 5 gallon RO water jugs from Walmart now that I see it's only $0.36 per gallon. I feel like the girls should be further along at this point. Yes I started counting the day I put the seeds in the rockwool but for FastBuds I thought it would be faster. Im also thinking of investing in a tent soon. Anyways, I posted some pics, a little disappointing. Any tips would be appreciated fellow growers

It's now the middle of week 6 and they are touching the first shelf!! Definitely happier with the way things are going now. My ph is still in the 6 range so I continue to play with it a little. Wondering what I'll have to change when they decide to flower which is pretty darn soon it looks like. Week 6 has started. Saturday I fed them again. both parts at 3.58ml per the BudLabs app. they have started to grow more and definitely have a scent up close. ph is staying right around 5.8 and I check it twice per day. Any suggestions or thoughts on these girls would be greatly appreciated. Will they start blooming before they get big enough?

Mid-week:Tent is up and my new light gets delivered today! I also bought some 250ml Advanced Nutrient additives to try. I changed to the Bloom nutes now. I noticed a funky smell when I opened the tent last night. Roots are a little brown but it just looks like nutrient buildup...nothing rotting. Could this be from lack of air exchange? Any thoughts? Also pot 2 has very shiny leaves and almost looks to be wilting. Tomorrow starts Week 8 so I may change the water to see if that helps if I dont find any other suggestions. Begin week 7! So I'm an idiot. Did I explain this already? My app told me ozs but my pipette was ml so instead of giving them the full dose of 3.85oz per part, I was giving them 3.5ml. Big difference and I'm assuming that's why I still had issues with ph. So, I gave them 2oz each of both parts last week. Now I will switch to bloom. these girls obviously didn't have a great start but I'm trying to make the most of the time I have left. Got a tent!!! Will be moving them tonight. My new LED should be in tomorrow so that will be sweet!!!! Slowly improving the conditions.

Well its week 8 already. I can tell they like their new home. I need to get my new light up tonight and then flush the tub tomorrow. I'm afraid that the humidity is getting too high so I have the fan running some days. I also put my little vent pipe in the top of the tent to try and let some heat escape. I have pics posted of the roots and also of the sickly looking plant I had mentioned last week. I'm excited to see how they react to the fresh water and nutes! Any advice? Stay tuned for another update soon!

Wow where did the time go? I didnt fo a whole lot different this week besides cleaning the tub and filling with fresh ro water and bloom nutes. They are definitely responding. Since taking these pics they have developed some nutrient burn I'm assuming because I didnt add as much water. I also moved plant 2 so the bubble stone is right underneath it. I dont think it was getting much oxygen. will take more pics tonight to show you!

I haven't posted for almost 2 weeks. Not because I gave up, but because not a whole lot is changing. I did take these pics in Week 10 so at least that's on target. I did have some leaf yellowing but I think it was from too many nutes and not enough water added. I did give less nutes the past 2 weeks just so the girls wouldn't get burnt anymore.

Well weeks 12 & 13 snuck up on me fast! I changed the water for the last time about a week ago. Since then I haven't added any nutes because I feel like harvesting is right around the corner for these girls. I did switch them to a 12/12 light schedule finally. Ph is holding at 6.0 and I haven't done a whole lot to lower it honestly. Now just waiting for 2/3 of the hairs to be amber so I can cut them down and start the new ones fresh. I still think I'll be able to salvage a good amount of bud considering everything they went through.

Well I cut the main stems on pot 1 & 3 because the pistols were all amber and I didnt want them to burn out while I waited for some side buds to turn orange. Pot 2, which was my sickling for most of the grow is surprisingly turning out to be the biggest producer. That girl is packed with buds from bottom to top. They were just starting to change pistol color from white to amber yesterday. Not sure if I'm doing damage by allowing some of the side branches to keep growing on the ones I cut already, but after everything they went through I figured they would be ok. Any tips on obtaining the perfect drying environment would be appreciated!

I love smoking this. It makes me feel good and I dont get couch lock. Had some friends try it and they agree it is a great high. The fact that I grew it myself makes it even better. I learned a lot with this being my first try and I'm excited to get some more seeds going so I can do better. I appreciate all the input and suggestions by other growers. Cant wait to see what the future holds for all of us!

Bought the Viparspectra 300W reflector. seemed like the best thing I could get for the money I was willing to spend at the moment. Question: what would cause my tent to stink? A gross stink...a stank lol. Roots aren't rotting, one plant is like shiny yet sick looking. Let me know what you think, when you get a chance.

Flipped through your previous weeks pictures and noticed your LED is a thin flat panel.....looks almost identical to the flat panel LED I tested out in my first diary. Mine was a Roleadro 45w flat panel and was not much good past seedling stage....

@BudLovinMom72, would highly recommend YaeTek LED Grow Light Panel Full Spectrum IR UV for Indoor Medical Plants (X4-800W) https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01N77Y2KM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_rxEBkHrGY5HLH, pulls 200 from the wall, cheap and heavy in red specrum

I've only used the cheapest as well. I plan to switch to Advanced Nutrients PH perfect nutrients on my next grow so I won't have to worry about it. Maybe I'll get lucky and they won't mind the 6.4 level they're at now. I did raise my light as well. Did some reading on that recently.
BudLovinMom72
BudLovinMom72commented7 years ago
I agree, it is very contradictory. In regards to the light, I'm only going based on what the kush grow kit says. According to them it is a Pro-grade 225 Blue/Red LED panel. I'll see how the girls adjust to the different distance.
Legoman
Legomancommented7 years ago
@BudLovinMom72, There's a lot of contradictory info on the web about what distance the lights need to be, which is not made easier by some of the misleading claims made by LED manufactures. The light your using in the pics just doesn't look like a 250W. Take for example the VIPARSPECTRA 300W LED. Even though it is labeled at 300W its actual power draw is closer to 130W and even that needs a fan to keep it cool. As for the distance between plant and light, how the plants themselves are reacting to the light is the real guide to what they need. Are they growing very tall, with lots of space between nodes, trying to get at the light? Are they getting bleached by being to close? Burned by the heat? Keep a close eye on them and I'm sure it will work out.

It seems like a lot to get a hold on, but after a couple grows you'll get a routine down and start to notice these issues that arose from your own previous experiences. Coming to an indoor grow from guerilla growing (and adding nutrient schedules) was a Huge change for me, but I'm finally getting the hang of it and my PH readings. .....never had these issues growing along our old river band when I was a kid, lol.
BudLovinMom72
BudLovinMom72commented6 years ago
I'm tempted to plant some in the woods at our cabin to see how it goes. Also afraid of critters getting in to eat it so I've been looking for a mini greenhouse to keep them somewhat protected or contemplating putting a wire fence around them. I should've done it earlier in the summer though because now our temps will start to drop in Fall.

Darnit I wish I would've read this yesterday. So if you can read my week 5 paragraph, let me know if you think I should still hold off. Thank you for the ph advice and the light. Only reason I had it at 8 is because of the instructions from the kush grow kit. Also I do have a long airstone in there. The bubbles do break at the surface but I have the pots 1/4in deep into the water. Should I take water out? I dont want to give up on them yet. What will it take for them to be happy? Thank you for all your advice!

@BudLovinMom72, I guess my name would not be the same, lol. Anyhow, as I was suggesting, dip a shot glass down in your basin and test that ph. Add a little ph up or down, towards 5.8. Mix it up with a spoon or something (you can do this in the net pot if you pull out an empty one). Test again, ph a little up or down towards 5.8. If you don't get close to this number you will get nutrient lockout (bad). Test added water with nutrients, ph to 5.8 before you add it. Then test the water again. You really need a pen to test cause you will be doing it all the time. You will get the hang of it. Make sure you mix it the basin before you retest. I usually test, guesstimate needed up or down, add it, mix, come back in 15 or 30 min, retest. Also, you will see the number keeps dropping or climbing, just wait for a min or 2. Give it time.

I'd wait until almost all of the pistils have darkened and curled inwards towards the buds, also with autoflowers there's no need to switch your lighting at all. Looking forward to seeing how your next grow goes.
BudLovinMom72
BudLovinMom72commented6 years ago
Same here. I hope I learned enough to do better lol. Thank you for the tips. Does the light change still affect them at all?
BeefWellingtons
BeefWellingtonscommentedweek 107 years ago
@BudLovinMom72 I looked up the feeding schedule for your nutrients. Each of those should be 4ml per gallon, and I wouldn't even go that high, more like 2 or 2.5ml each, per gallon of water in your basin. Second, make sure you water is up high, 1cm below net buckets, check it every day. Three, your TDs is very high, makes me think you have too much nutrients in that basin. Four, it looks like the leaves are wet in some pics. You should not foliar spray once they are flowering, that can cause moldy buds. Also, it can burn your leaves if the light is on the whole time (which looks like that is happening). You can top water a little, but no spray. Also, and I can't stress this enough, try to get ph to 5.8. You can salvage these if you get the basin under control. Good luck!

BudLovinMom72commented6 years ago
No idea why the Bud Labs ap was telling me different amounts but I looked on the website and found the same thing as you. Now I know for my next grow at least.

The kit you bought was only good for the knowlege you gained participating in this grow, you can see flat out your autoflower are starting to hear up for flowering really soon. You may see some growth still, but all in all....it may only be about an 1/8 to a 1/4 total between those 3 plants. Save up a lil bit of cash and get yourself at least a 300 watt LED, Viparspectra and Growstar are decent brands for LED, but if you can afford it check out Advanced Platinum LED (the P450 to be exact). Glad to see you got some PH Perfect nutrients; Great for hydroponics keeps you resevour in check for 4-6 days worry free.
BudLovinMom72
BudLovinMom72commented7 years ago
I agree. Thankfully, the experience and motivation gained was worth the money of the kit. I will be checking out some LEDS in the near future. Thank you for the recommendations!

Will_journalscommentedweek 136 years ago
First grow out of the way, time to use the knowledge you gained for your next grow. One thing I must stress is the importance of the missing cal-mag, growing with an LED it seems to be more in demand throughout the grow.
BeefWellingtons
BeefWellingtonscommentedweek 126 years ago
What does the manual for the light say about optimum distance from the top of the canopy? I just haven't seen many led grows at 12 inches. I'm thinking they might be getting cooked at that distance and that moving it up another 6 inches would be better at 18 inches. Now I may be wrong, but from most of my research 18-24 inches is optimal for most led grow lights. Also, if next time you take pictures, use your flash so we can see the true colors cause led color is hard to tell what the plant really looks like.
BeefWellingtons
BeefWellingtonscommentedweek 107 years ago
Sorry, one more thing, I would start with dumping out all the basin, fill with nothing but ph 5.8 water for 24 hours, then remove a gallon of water and replace with 1 gallon of water with nutrients for whole basin at 1/2 strength. Mix it up, wait 30 min, then retest ph and adjust gently. So when you put your ph pen in there, wait for like 3 min for it to crawl down, then use that number.
