11/06 Day 1. Thank you again SunWest Genetics for standing by your word on the seeds! I am following their recommended germination requirements to the letter. From the pictures the 2 seeds with the small tap roots are still on the plate, in a paper towel, in a dark place. I am hoping they make some progress today so that I can get them into their containers!!! My goal is to have 4 active sprouts in the new 5x5 tent, in a ScroG setup. So far only 1 has sprouted. I am finding the sprouting part the most difficult aspect of growing these wonderful plants. I still have 4 seeds in reserve and if the 2 don't continue germination and the other one doesn't sprout up through the flake of rockwool I have over the seed head, I'll get the other 4 into water.
Week 1 of Veg. I've decided to track days based upon them becoming a sprout.
11/16 Day 1. Feeding day! I've decided to use up all the GHE products before switching over to advanced nutrients line. I'm still trying to germinate the last 4 northern lights seeds, one has sprouted and in the aerogarden as a temporary home. Overall not successful with their seeds. I've added some hydroton balls to the other plant. Names will be coming soon. The letters P and O are being decided.
11/18 Day 3. Water chemistry is looking good. Hopefully will have to 2 late editions to join in the tent which I'm prepping today.
11/20. Day 5. Setting up the humidifier with the inkbird controller. Eventually the de-humidifier will go in their too. I am going increase the feeding amounts a little more with this grow, and see how it goes. Looks like it will just be 3 plants again out of 8 seeds. 😞
11/22 Day 7. Moved the final plant into the tent and her final home container.
Week 2
11/24 Day 8. Things are going well. The ladies have names now. Garnet, Opal, Pearl to match their corresponding cloning harness colors that prevents light getting into the watering and feeding hole. I was going to LST Opal but will give her a little more height before I bend her over (HaHa). I will still feed them every 5 days or so, but at 1/2 the weekly strength. I'm also going to increase the amount by 1/3 compared to my 1st grow. I am hoping that this along with the Optic 1 lights, and the new fertilizer line will produce fatter flowers. I will monitor throughout and make adjustments as needed. I will be using a ScrOG net this time, so one of the new items I will be making is a stand for each plant so that I can drain the water when needed. Defoliating of course will be the challenge once the net goes up. My goal is to fill the entire 5x5 tent with colas.
Week 3
11/30 Day 15. All 3 are now getting some early LST. I also had my 1st pest, some crazy caterpillar thought it could munch on my leaves... hmrrpp! Grower 1, Pest 0 as now it's pushing daises! I will probably feed them tomorrow or the next day. Right now all the leaves are a nice dark green. I will also remove any fan leaves that are blocking light to the new stems being grown from the LST.
12/2 Day 17. Everyone is looking good. Will test water to see if a feeding is in order. Feeding was needed, UC 15ml, CaMg 10ml, SB 8ml, Micro 10ml, Gro 10ml, Bloom 8ml. We have had a cold snap the last few days, so I moved the Mars Hydro lamp into the tent as it's no longer needed in the 4x4 tent. This will add more light and some needed heat to the tent.
Week 4
12/8 Day 23. LST is in full swing. Again I cracked the main stem trying to tie down the LST point on Opal 😧. It's still growing, looking healthy on the growth above the gouge, so I am going to leave it.
12/9 Day 24. Feeding day 😋 UC 8ml, CalMg 12ml, SB 8 ml, Micro 12, Gro 12ml, Bloom 10ml. I have switched over to Advanced Nutrients for the remained of the grow. Added a few more LST tie down points, re-adjusted the current ones as I'm trying to create a "wheel spoke" look and keep the branches all about the same level so that the growth hormone is distributed equally. Did a few selective fan leaf removals to open up some of the new growth sites for light. I also added a small space heater and set the temp to 75F. Will keep a close eye on it as now I'm battling the cold this grow.
Week 5
12/15 Day 30. Started off the week with the same feeding schedule as last week. I have a new PH pen so looking forward to seeing if advanced nutrients does keep the PH at a specific range. I've been readjusting the LST tie down points almost every day trying to stretch them out a bit before they start stretching upwards. My goal is still to use the SCroG netting. CaMg 12ml, UC roots 10ml, SB 10ml, Micro 12ml, Gro 12ml, Bloom 10ml. One bonus is that the cooler temperatures is allowing for colder water temp, thus increased O2 uptake in the water. Pearl and Opal are in pre-flower. I have to remember that all 3 are a week apart in age. Pearl is the oldest, then Opal, Garnet is the baby. I've been doing some small amounts of defoliation of just major large fan leaves that are blocking light to the new potential cola sites. Later this week I want to start some junior lolloping of the lowest leaves to improve airflow at the base of the plant.
Week 6 Pre Flower
12/23 Day 38. Pearl and Opal are in full pre flower now. Going through a gallon of water about every 3-4 days now. I released their LST wires, and did a minor defoliation too, I broke a stem so I'm trying my 1st tape job. I also feed them today. UC 15ml, SB 5ml, CalMg 12ml, Micro 12ml, Gro 12ml, Bloom 12 ml, Beastie Bloom 1/4 tsp per gallon. As a lesson learned from the season one grow I'm using the Beastie Bloom early. It has been so nice only checking the PH every now and then. Advanced Nutrients is working well balancing it. I will check the H2O chemistry when the lights come on and everything has had a chance to circulate and disperse in the water. I'm also going to do some stop motion video when the lights come on. Will focus on Garnet as she is still receiving full LST. Should be fun to video..... that's what she said 😏
Week 7
12/31 Day 46. Well it's time for mid cycle water changes. Opal started to develop some algae in the sight tube, so perfect timing I guess. In the future I will look into those blue colored tubes. Also the 4 point tie down system with the net baskets is working like a charm. It was easy to move the plant without having it wanting to tip over. Garnet is 2 weeks behind so all she received was a regular feeding.
Happy new year! I hope it doesn't become a shit show like 2020!
1/1 Day 47. Today I did a complete H2O change on Pearl. Like Opal her roots looked nice and white. All 3 girls received some Lolli popping of the lower growth and I removed some of the "larfy" sucker growth too. Completed the feeding and all fresh new water, and I started to use the Beastie Bloom on Garnet at 1/2 dosage. The Advanced Nutrients is doing a superb job of keeping the PH around 5.9, the TDS was up around 2300, EC at 2.6 (time to decrease it) and water temps holding around 72F to 68F. A new addition is the inkbird temp controller. This should work well when the room temps get into the 50s at night.
1/4 Day 50. Today just topping off PH'd water on each plant. No signs of nutrient burn or any deficiencies. 😊
1/5 Day 51, I did an additional feeding on Pearl and Opal. 8ml of CalMg, Micro, Gro, Bloom, 1/2 tsp of Beastie Bloom.
1/8 Day 54. PH issues are under control. I need to stay very vigilant in the future with all flushes before harvest. I might try as an experiment on Garnet and skip the mid grow flush unless she shows signs of needing it. Today a topping off with 2 gallons of water divided up between the 3. Will also do some very minor defoliation on lower growth and any fan leaves blocking flowers.
Any ideas what this yellow coloration is on the leaves? Only effecting this one flower area (branch) in a lower section of the canopy. I did a complete water change 5 days ago, and completed a feeding as well.
I also had this problem with this strain also, my problem was lack of nitrogen. But I don’t know if this solution will help you cause you are already in flowering.... if the color changes to green again tell what you did ... good luck
Week 8
1/10 Day 56. The yellowing of Opal's leaves is continuing throughout the plant. The water chemistry is looking better.
1/15 Day 61. It was a tough decision but I believe the right one. I have removed Opal and cut her. She is now providing fertilizer services to the outdoor plants 😭. I am looking into what may have caused the systemic injury to her. I'm thinking that I might not have flushed enough of the container from the bleach I used to remove the algae from the sight tube. A costly possible mistake, but a good lesson learned. So I've decided not to do a complete water flush for Garnet and see how she does. Pearl is doing fine from her complete fresh water flush,
1/18 Day 64. Topped them off with PH balanced water and did a feeding today.
