After the stem growth in the first two weeks, it now shows its first true leaves and looks like it’s going to be a plant with good compactness. I need to keep an eye on the size this strain is going to take, as it can get out of hand due to its sativa dominance... deFharo Fifth week of life and four days since transplanting to its final pot, a 7L grow bag with a base of river stones in the tray. I continue with the plant in my vegetative growth cabinet with very bright and intense lights. Fantastic establishment in the pot!! There has been no transition after the transplant, the plant has jumped into growth, water consumption is already very high, my new substrate compositions are working. To promote root development, I have created a light substrate made of peat and coconut fiber (Total 7 parts), I added 1 part of worm humus, another of my aged bokashi from silage grass, and a final part with various minerals (Montmorillonite, white and red Kaolin, pumice, azomite, basalt, phosphorite, dolomite, zeolite, and wood ash), also with leonardite (Organic matter, humic and fulvic acids) and for the inoculation of Microorganisms, I use activated charcoal with Microorganisms, previously hydrated coconut fiber inoculated with Activated Mountain Microorganisms (MMA) and finally Solid Mountain Microorganisms (MMS). Around the root ball, I sprinkled my auxins from black beans and mycorrhizal spores. For the transplant, I thoroughly moistened the small pot, then transferred that very wet root ball to the new pot-soil, I left it without watering for 24 hours so that the moisture from the root ball would spread by capillarity to the surrounding soil, after 24 hours I watered with mountain water, the volume of my initial watering corresponds to 10% of the total volume of the pot (7L/700ml), as of today the consumption of this plant is at 300ml daily and rising.... very good ratio considering the current height and leaf mass.... it’s going to be a great grow. After the transplant and an initial watering only with pure mountain water (Ca, Si, Fe, Mg, Mn...) I have done two more waterings aimed at inoculating Microorganisms in the substrate to promote nutrient assimilation and root development. Day 33. Mountain water (Ca, Si, Fe, Mg, Mn...), Pumpkin, carrot, and mineral Biol with Activated Mountain Microorganisms (MMA, carotenoids, NPK, vitamins...) at 2%, Auxin lacto-ferment with NPK nutrients at 1% and Ormus (Mg...+PH) at 0.5%. PH: 6.4 EC: 0.95. 300ml. Day 35. Mountain water (Ca, Si, Fe, Mg, Mn...), Fruit and mineral Biol (NPK, Vitamins, Mg, Mn, Fe, Si, Cu, Ca...) with Efficient Microorganisms (MMA, BAL) at 2% and potassium humate from leonardite with nutrients and minerals NPK at 1%. PH: 6.45 EC: 1.48. 400ml. This week I have done several preventive treatments against fungi and insects, as I currently have several crops with problems of spider mites and fungi, fortunately all my new crops are completely confined in their own room and three independent cabinets, in my other grow room I have isolated the problematic crops. I have started the preventive treatment by spraying a sulfur solution to prevent powdery mildew and fungi, three days later I sprayed with diatomaceous earth and yesterday I applied neem oil to the leaves to prevent pests... I have to say I’m paying for my big rookie mistake, the severe spider mite infestation in my more advanced crops is giving me a great lesson in humility as I didn’t heed the signs, I didn’t ask about them and assumed the crops were healthy without further ado!! 😔 Well, but this new learning, like other past ones related to all kinds of issues, substrates, lights, feeding, ...etc. I hope will improve my growing techniques. Let’s continue!! ORGANIC TIP 😈 - Inoculation of Microorganisms in coconut fiber for substrate mixes. I like coconut fiber as a substrate component, inert material with very good moisture retention and recovery and aeration. Since the fiber needs to be hydrated beforehand to be used, as it is usually sold pressed, I thought it might be a good idea within the concept of creating substrates with microbiology and very efficient in decomposing organic matter and minerals, thus promoting nutrient assimilation and root development, and in the case of mycorrhizae, protecting the roots against pathogenic fungi, due to their extreme voracity and territoriality. To ensure good inoculation, I hydrated the coconut fiber with my Activated Mountain Microorganisms (MMA) three days before the transplant and then mixed it with the other substrate components. deFharo Sixth week of life from seed, 10 days since transplant, and three days since the FIM cut... and baby Gorilla is moving along without complaints, on its way to becoming a King Kong!! 😵 This week of growing has been very entertaining, considering the plant is establishing itself in the pot fantastically and I would like to switch it to flowering next week, as I don't want to risk excessive growth if I extend the vegetative stage, since it's a sativa. This week I started filling the pot to the brim with organic soil and mulch made from dry grass and weathered wood chips, previously sterilizing this mulch by putting it in the microwave for a couple of minutes. On day 39, I did a FIM cut above the fourth node, and three days later the lateral branches are showing up, claiming their space in the upper canopy. And yesterday, continuing with the preventive treatment against insects and fungi, I did a spray with horsetail extract that strengthens the plant's defenses; next week it's time for soluble sulfur, very effective against powdery mildew and spider mites among other pests. I start with a pot humidity that corresponds to 10% of the volume of that pot, in this case 700ml; I maintain this humidity and with the waterings, I recover the moisture consumed by the plant. The current consumption is one-third daily of the initial humidity, so I water it every 2-3 days. This time interval is ideal for the almost complete assimilation of the components of the watering, but I make sure of that by alternating nutrient waterings with the inoculation of Activated Mountain Microorganisms in the substrate to finish transforming any organic matter that may have been left from the watering. This week, nutrient waterings to boost vegetative growth, and after the FIM cut, I did a watering with my milk-based auxin preparation to help with the energy or hormonal shift resulting from the apical cut. 😁 DECODING NUTRITION - I keep the watering water between 21-23°C to compensate for these cold days where my cabinets in the dark are at 17°C. deFharo Eighth week of cultivation and last of the vegetative growth, two days ago I lowered the light schedule to 14/10 and I will keep the plant in the growth cabinet with white lights this week, while I prepare and disinfect my flowering cabinets after harvesting the 3 plants currently occupying them. The white lights will support the transition to flowering and continue to maintain the excellent compactness of the plant. Very good growth of the leaf mass and all the branches, which are striving to grow to occupy a place in the upper canopy. For now, no ties on the branches; I want a plant with a vertical proportion so that later in the flowering cabinets I can separate them from their companions to let light in throughout the plant, with the least shadows possible. Now there are large leaves that I’m not going to cut for the moment; I want to capture the most light energy in these first weeks to accelerate, as much as possible, the plant's metabolism. For now, the cultivation has a high water consumption, which is increasing, and the plant looks splendid... this little gorilla baby is becoming a teenager!! 😏 This week I have done two foliar treatments, continuing with the prevention treatments for powdery mildew (fungi) and spider mites (soft insects), two problems I face in other crops. deFharo Ninth week of life and the first since the transition to flowering (10/14) with a change of tent and lights. Growth has skyrocketed; this week it has grown 14cm in height, thickened the stem, increased leaf mass, and the side branches are competing to reach the canopy, dodging and surpassing the large leaves that capture a lot of light energy for the growth of new shoots. For now, I haven't tied down the branches because it seems like each one knows its best spot to avoid bothering and being bothered by others. I have tied down the two companions in the tent to slow their growth, but that means an increase in width for those plants, and my space, both vertical and horizontal, is very limited for what I would like. Also, since I practically don't know the behavior of sativas in terms of growth after transitioning to flowering, I'm on the lookout to avoid overbooking in the tent. The entire plant looks very healthy; the preventive treatments against pests seem to have safeguarded the crop so far. I will continue with these foliar applications until the first flowers start to develop. This week, I've also taken this plant and others out of the growth tent with very white lights and installed them in my main tent, which is finally free, and I disinfected it thoroughly with water and bleach—floor, walls, lights, fans, grids, everything. I also took the opportunity to completely change the lighting system and type because I'm looking for optimization between growth and watt consumption. In this tent, I had a top canopy installed with 250w (5x50w) consumption made up of 4 homemade LED COBs with lenses, where I mixed two generic 3000K chips with two Full Spectrum chips and a quantum panel with Samsung LM301B chips of 2700K and 660nm. Additionally, this setup required 5 cables and the noise produced by 4 attached fans. The cost was $200, and the harvest results were very satisfactory, but managing the system was very cumbersome. I replaced this canopy with a Mars Hydro TS 1000 with 150w consumption, much lighter and priced at €180. Initially, I'm going to save 4 cables, 4 fans, and 100w of consumption. Moreover, the height management is much more functional than in my homemade canopy. The lamp has a dimmer for light intensity, which I am not using for now. My first impression of the lights is good; they are very bright with excellent penetration, mixing SMD chips of 5000K with others of 3000K in a 1:2 ratio, and a few chips of 660nm and others IR 730nm. I'm sure this configuration will be very good for vegetative growth and the beginning of flowering since the average spectrum is around 3550K, but in my opinion, it lacks warm spectrum below 3000K for maximum performance in flower formation and maturation. It’s not surprising to me that these types of configurations aim to serve all stages of cultivation, and they do work, but I prefer more specialized lights for each stage. When the time for flowering comes and progresses, I will add my quantum panel of 2700K+660nm and a 660nm bulb to compensate for the excess, in my opinion, of white light... but well, you have to grow to have more data. What I can say so far is that in just one week of use, the plants have experienced great growth. I have the lamp 25cm from the plants because I like it, and I'm not afraid of the intensity!! 😈 Currently, I plan to enter flowering with 14h of light. I have started a 10w IR 730nm LED bulb, turning it on half an hour before the lights go out until half an hour after they are off. Theoretically, the rapid change in phytochromes thanks to this light is supposed to trick the plant into thinking that the night schedule has increased by two hours (14/12). So far, one of the 3 plants in the tent has started pre-flowering. The plant is not flowering and is experiencing excessive height growth, too much for my liking, so three days ago I lowered the light schedule to 13.5/10.5h and since everything remained the same, yesterday I definitely set a schedule of 13/11 and added a 660nm bulb with high PAR, to compensate for the excess whites, in my opinion, from the main MH TS1000 lamp. The plant looks healthy, with no signs of deficiencies or excesses, a strong stem and long branches that I hope will fill up with fat buds. I haven't tied down any branches because the lateral branches are growing strong, spaced out, and vertical, at least the grow doesn't take up too much width. The little gorilla is turning into a big female!! 😍 Water consumption is very high, good metabolism so far, watering every two days, with varied watering and low nutrient concentration, but very varied nonetheless. These days, the first large leaves showing signs of nitrogen deficiency have started to appear, I’ve removed them, the pot is too small for a plant of this size and it’s likely depleted any type of nutrients in the substrate, so from now on, and with care, I’m going to give nutrients with every watering to compensate for the substrate deficiencies. Yesterday I made a solid surface addition to compensate for the consumption, mainly, of Calcium, Iron, and Magnesium, the latter mineral I regularly provide with Ormus, but I’ve run out for now, today I’ll visit the sea to collect water and make more; the Ormus also helps me raise the pH of my very acidic fermented watering solutions. deFharo Welcome to the fifth week of flowering, although the plant really didn't start pre-flowering until the second week after the light schedule change, because I had it for two weeks at 14/10 hours, and since the plant wasn't starting to flower, I lowered the schedule to 13/11 hours and the flower formation began immediately, so I would say the grow is at most in the fourth week or rather in the third. The concept of this grow is based on minimal intervention regarding the aerial part, just the apical cut to get more production, without any tying. The vertical structure of strong and long branches satisfies me, the compactness is ideal with short internodes and many flower buds. The vertical growth has stopped and the strain is pouring all its energy into flower formation. This week, one more, the plant makes it easy for me as it responds positively to all the watering solutions. The plant is focused on flower formation, vegetative growth stopped two weeks ago, and flowers are emerging along all the branches. The plant's structure is vertical with a very thick stem and branches capable of supporting the heavy colas it's forming. The overall appearance is healthy, only a few large leaves are starting to show signs of yellowing... all normal. These days I'm at war with the fungus gnat, trying to eradicate it completely, although so far without much success. deFharo Welcome friends, the big gorilla has reached 19 weeks of life and nine since it started flowering... there’s still a lot of energy in this plant to fill all the branches with thick buds, you can already feel a considerable weight in the aerial part of the plant, the colas are very dense and give off a strong smell all day long, the branches are long and strong enough to hold all the weight and the resin shines brightly under the intense lights of the grow tent. The plant continues with a great metabolism, water consumption is very high and stable, I water deeply every two days. Slowly the plant sucks up nutrients from the older leaves and keeps a good leaf mass intact. WEEKLY ACTIVITY 😎 - Day 121. The plant has consumed 502ml of water, 544ml remains in the pot. I add 400ml of rain and mountain water at 50% (EC: 0.16) and a bit of molasses, to ensure the substrate maintains enough moisture before the next deep watering. - Day 122. The plant has consumed 453ml of water, 482ml remains in the pot. I turn the pot 90°. I prepare a deep watering (1000ml. PH: 6.49, EC 1.80) with rainwater, mountain water, and beans (EC: 0.55), Biol of algae with Efficient Microorganisms at 1% to strengthen the crop, potassium humate from leonardite (Humate) with phosphorus at 1.5% for the supply of humic and fulvic acids with PK and sweetened with molasses. (PH: 6.49, EC: 1.80). - Day 123. The plant has consumed 561ml. I turn the pot 90°. - Day 124. The plant has consumed 501ml, 374ml of water remains in the pot. I turn the pot 90°. I prepare a watering (PH: 6.67, EC 1.50) with inoculation of microorganisms, vitamins, minerals, and nutrients composed of: rain and mountain water (EC: 0.16) with a bit of molasses, Activated Microorganisms Biol with pumpkin and carrot with minerals and chitosan at 1% to strengthen the crop, it provides sugars, vitamins, carotenoids, B, Ca, P, K, Mg..., Activated Mountain Microorganisms in liquid form (Basic) at 1% to increase the MM population in the substrate that mineralizes organic matter and my potassium humate from leonardite with phosphites, which contains humic and fulvic acids, humified organic matter, and PK, this alkaline preparation is the basis of my crops' nutrition since the beginning of flowering, to lower the PH of the mix I use my MM Biols or Lactoferments, which provide the full range of macro and micronutrients. - Day 125. The plant has consumed 458ml. I turn the pot 90°. The exhausted leaves fall to the substrate under their own weight. - Day 126. The plant has consumed 541ml. I turn the pot 90°. Tenth week of flowering, 19 weeks into the life of this great Gorilla, who could be King Kong's girlfriend... it's scary!! 😍 Life marks you!! and this strain is no exception, showing signs of the passage of time on its old leaves, small LED burns, but it all contributes to giving it personality and strength!!.. because what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. 😵‍💫 The floral buds are determined to grow and fatten up. Dense and hard as rocks, while being stained with white resin, which shines with its own light, reflecting the intense lights of its grow tent... truly a majestic strain!! The weight of the buds dominates over the weight of the pot, the water consumption is brutal, seems to have no limit... there's so much life and energy in this grow, it will be able to successfully face Gozilla!! WEEKLY ACTIVITY 😜 This week several nutrient waterings and other compensatory ones, all aimed at maintaining the proper functioning of the rhizosphere and boosting the great metabolism that the plant shows. - Day 128. Watering with inoculation of Activated Mountain Microorganisms (MMA Basic) at 1.5% to help with the complete assimilation of previous waterings, molasses to give energy to the MMA and compensate for the high sugar consumption in this advanced flowering stage, and Ormus (1%) to provide Ca and Mg and help me raise the pH: 6.82, EC: 0.62. 1100ml. - Day 130. Watering mix aimed at strengthening the grow and compensating for mineral consumption with my 3-algae Biol with Efficient Microorganisms (MMA, BAL) at 2%, I also add 1.5% of Humate PK and sweeten it with molasses. pH: 6.60, EC: 1.75. 1000ml. - Day 132. I increase the watering amounts due to the high consumption of the plant. New watering mix, this time with molasses (essential), potassium hydrolate from leonardite with phosphorus (Humate PK) at 1.5% which provides humic and fulvic acids to help maintain the microbiology of the substrate thanks to its high content of hydrolyzed organic matter and favor the soil structure and humification, 1% of my mineral and nutrient lactoferment PK which also helps me lower the pH, raised by the alkalinity of the Humate PK, and since it wasn't enough, I added 0.5% of my Activated Mountain Microorganisms in liquid form (Basic) which has a pH of 3.5!! Final pH: 6.43, EC: 1.50. 1300ml. - Day 134. I prepare a gentle mix with my guano Biol (Ca, Mg, P...) with Efficient Microorganisms (MMA, BAL) at 3% and Ormus to lower the pH and provide Ca and Mg at 1%. pH: 6.55, EC: 0.55. 1400ml. GROWING ROUTINES 😋 - For all watering mixes, I use mountain and rainwater mixed at 50% (EC: 0.16). This water, as I have it stored, I structure for at least 15 minutes with a magnetic stirrer, to oxygenate it and also to recover an ordered molecular structure, which favors cation exchange (nutrient assimilation), as a result of the structuring of the watering water, lower concentrations of nutrients can be used, up to 40%. - I note all the watering mixes I use for each plant, with control of pH, EC, and temperature, to ensure I provide very varied and/or specific nutrition for each moment. All the soluble fertilizers I use and some solids (Bioles, Lactoferments, Hydrolyzed, Dehydrated...) are of my own creation and formulation, I use purely organic components and residues to create them. - Every day I turn the pots 90° for an equivalent light distribution on all sides, since, in addition to the excellent main lamp (Mars Hydro TS1000), I use lights with other spectrums (2200K, 2700K, 3000K, 660nm, IR 735nm, UVB) pointing at specific areas of the tent. For the same reason, in my grow tents with several pots, in addition to the daily turn, every 4 days I also change the position-rotation of all of them. The average size of the pots I use, 6-7l, favors all this hustle!! - Daily, I also weigh each of my crops, to know exactly the water consumption and what remains in the pot. This information is very valuable to me, as I quickly detect any incident in the plant's metabolism. To calculate the moisture in the substrate, I start from an initial watering that I gradually bring up to 20% of the soil volume, for example, for a 7l pot with an adult plant, I use an initial watering of 1400ml and when the plant has consumed between 65-75%, I water again; if there is a high consumption I can increase the percentage of the initial watering, in all cases I have practically no runoff, also because I water slowly. deFharo Welcome fellow growers and sativa enthusiasts, to the diary of this wild female Gorilla, which is powerfully heading towards the zenith of its glory!! The fat and sticky buds continue to swell, the plant maintains a good leaf mass and metabolism. This week it has consumed 3800ml of watering water, 12% less than the previous week, due to the drop in temperatures. I’ve tied the plant to reduce the diameter a bit and optimize light entry into the buds, plus, I’ve centered the plant with the Mars Hydro TS1000 lamp at a distance of 25cm for maximum brightness. Nothing else to highlight, I believe the plant has energy for at least 3 more weeks of cultivation, the trichomes continue to proliferate, there are many clear ones, many milky ones, and none amber. Today, when moving the plant for the photo session, a party of intense chocolatey, sweet, and earthy aromas began to invade my whole house... brutal! 👊 WEEKLY ACTIVITY 😂 - Day 136. I resume the specific flowering watering mixes, this time with 20% red bean resting water, very rich in potassium (Ca, Mg, P, K...), Potassium Humate from leonardite (Humate KP) with phosphorus at 1.5%, Activated Mountain Microorganisms (Plus) with minerals and nutrients at 1%, and it also helps lower the pH of the mix and molasses to sweeten and keep the soil microbiology very active. pH: 6.66, EC: 1.65. 1200ml. - Day 138. Another nutrient watering with... Potassium Humate (Humic and fulvic acids, PK...) at 1.5%, fruit and mineral lacto-ferment that provides macro and micro nutrients with vitamins, plus it lowers the pH, at 1.5% and Activated Mountain Microorganisms (Basic) at 0.5%, sweetened with a bit of molasses. pH: 6.66, EC: 1.48. 1200ml. - Day 140. A gentle watering with Activated Microorganisms, molasses, and Ormus to help fully digest the nutrients from the previous two waterings. pH: 6.4, EC: 0.58 More next week... deFharo Welcome fellow growers, the big gorilla is now 12 weeks into flowering and 21 weeks old, the end is near for this sativa-dominant strain. At the moment, the plant is focused on resin production, which shines like stars under the tent light, there’s no trace of amber trichomes yet, still plenty of clear ones, although I think this week it will speed up and the Gorilla might be ready to be harvested!! 😮 In contrast to the health of the buds, the plant has entered senescence, the leaves are gradually being consumed by the plant, yielding their nutrients. The plant maintains a good metabolism, reflected in the watering consumption, which remains high, watering deeply every 48 hours. This will probably be the last week of life for this great stinky strain, as soon as I see the first signs of trichome maturation, I’ll water it a couple of times with water and molasses and then chop!! WEEKLY ACTIVITY 😁 - Day 142. After the gentle previous watering, it’s time for a mix to boost resin production with humic and fulvic acids along with phosphorus and potassium (Humato PK) at 1.5%, Activated Mountain Microorganisms with minerals and nutrients (Plus) at 1% and molasses. PH: 6.50, EC: 1.20. 1100ml. - Day 144. I continue fertilizing with my Humato PK at 1.5% and feeding with 3% of my Biol from guanos with Efficient Microorganisms (MMA, BAL, Ca, Mg, P, Mn...) which also helps me lower the PH of the Humato PK, sweetening with molasses. PH: 6.42, EC: 1.48. 1100ml. - Day 146. Watering only with mountain water and molasses to help digest the nutrients from the last waterings and maintain root health. - Day 147. I move the plant to an individual tent to make space in my main tent, plus this change allows me to individualize the light entry for this crop in its last days of life, I’ve also reduced the light schedule by 60 minutes, now more night with 12/12, to give the plant more opportunities to create trichomes. - Day 148. A nutritious mix based on my potassium hydrolate from leonardite (Humato K) at 1%, Biol from animal meals with Efficient Microorganisms -EM- (MMA, BAL, Ca, Mg, Fe, P...) at 2% which also helps to regulate the PH and molasses to sweeten the mix. deFharo Hello and welcome, fellow marijuana growers, to the last week of life for this great sativa-dominant strain. Thirteen weeks of flowering and 22 weeks of life. This Gorilla Glue is giving it all for the delight of its grower!! Buds coated in white trichomes, very sticky and stinky!! 💪🤪👊 As I pointed out last week, senescence has accelerated and the plant is quickly absorbing nutrients from the leaves in pursuit of its survival... which will never come. Meanwhile, the resin is maturing on the tails, and the first amber trichomes are already visible amidst fields of milky resin. WEEKLY ACTIVITY 😏 I keep the plant hydrated, water consumption is still very high. For the past week, in an individual tent with very red lights and controlled temperatures between 20-24°C, I also reduced the light schedule from 13/11 to 12/12h. - Day 150. A watering only with mountain water and molasses to help digest the remaining nutrients in the substrate and maintain root health. PH: 6.52, EC: 0.40. 800ml. - Day 152. Last nutrient watering, gentle and specific, with humic and fulvic acids, phosphorus, potassium, Activated Mountain Microorganisms (MMA Basic), and molasses, which at this point in the grow serves several functions, very important to me, it gives energy to the microbiology, provides free sugars that compensate for the high consumption of these in the maturation of the trichomes, plus it has potassium, copper, iron, yeasts, and trace minerals so that this old lady lacks nothing in her final days of life. PH: 6.7, EC: 1.0. 900ml. - Day 154. Second to last watering before the chop. Only mountain water (EC: 0.28, Ca, Si, Mg, Fe...) and molasses. PH: 6.85, EC: 0.40. 1000ml. The Gorilla has 3 days of life left and one last watering, which I will do today, with mountain water and molasses. deFharo This has been an organic grow done in a 7L fabric pot, without ties, just with an apical cut, to see the natural development in the plant's structure. It grew with long branches full of buds, barely sticking out of its pot, which worked in my favor since I'm always tight on horizontal space for my grows. However, if I were to grow this strain again, I would do it in a larger pot and create a more efficient and productive structure with LST. The plant showed its strength from the beginning and tolerance to any type of nutrient watering I gave it, always displaying an increasing metabolism with a high water consumption. It resisted diseases and pests, thanks to preventive treatments with horsetail or sulfur, and homemade potassium soap, when it was time to annihilate a few red spiders! I'm happy with the grow; the yield has been acceptable, and the potency is spectacular. I'll save it for creative days or to have fun surprising an unsuspecting friend!! 😈 👨‍🌾 EXTRA GROW DATA (Statistics taken from my daily tracking.) Dry weight: 109g. Height: 74cm. 7L fabric pot.
