Since I expect a complete different growth, a much better plant structure, few feet high, and plant will be at full maturity once flowered, I am putting a new journal for this Re-vedge project. If plant survive, I will be able to make a more accurate strain review and compare her better to other phenotype currently flowering.
Also, a grow cycle always has their up and downs, so it will be nice to enjoy a fresh new start for her! She will be a beauty queen!!
Cheers to all ganja farmers
This experiment is a lot of fun with little effort and no money spent! I don't know about the outcome but I am keeping her. My other Malawi is about to be chopped so I will surely have a lot of Malawis!
This Malawi is growing from everywhere and should be bushy in a few weeks from now! I am letting her go just give water and vacuum away the fungus gnats.
This update is a little late.
Re veg is doing great. Plant start to look like it is shooting new growth looking as a normal vegetative stage plant would. Getting some vigour (finally!). I will do my best to keep her going happy and plan let her in veg as long as she needs to be thriving strong.
Plant was transplanted in 15 gal fabric pot with fresh soil. While doing this I damaged the rootball. This might slows her down but it will be perfect since plan is to flower it with young Afghan Kush seedlings.
Malawi reveg is growing lots of tops. Only thing I don't like is the stems are little thin and so weak I cannot think of putting her in bloom for a few weeks. Branches are coming out with a clone pattern and will need a lot of support. Thinking of building a mini scrog frame just for her.
An other week just went by! This old Malawi is getting fatter every day. I am letting her go no trimming no pruning. She will be in veg for at least other week. After that I will run out of options and will have to decide if she goes in bloom with the Afghan kush or I set an other tent to keep her longer (don't really have space but it is doable...).
Malawi is my best strain at the moment!
Big week for Old Malawi tree. Plant was moved to her own tent in this huge 50 gallons container. All week long I anticipated this transplant moving this big root ball could have been risky but it all went like a charm! I am using a bale of local super soil sold for cannabis, added a 7 gallons of coco coir from a previous grow, a bag of pro-mix, some bone meal, some potassium sulphate, epsom salts and Gaia green power bloom. This is my first time working with raw potassium sulphate and this shit is strong stuff and a little goes a long way. Hope my soil is not too hot!
I've finally decided to clean her a bit: pruned some leaves removed some branches and topped her at a few places. I've also set a first trellis. It is looking like a killer setup!
Because the new container is pretty high I am loosing a few more inches of vertical space. Gotta keep a close eye on that. My problem now is I either need to buy an other light or wait an other 6 weeks for my OG kush to finish so I can use this light. With shipping delay I will set my mind this week.
Old Malawi got company in the tent she is now with an Afghan Kush.😁 She had her full 24 hrs darkness Friday than light were put under 11-13 schedule. For adequate lightening a second light (240w Qb) was added.
Screen filled out nicely during week. This is my first time working with a scrog so I am doing my best working with my instinct. Plant have 3 main stronger stems. I don't want to end up having them in corners resulting in poorly lighten colas. I think it is the right time to flip. Tent have about 3-4 feet of vertical space for her to grow but very limited horizontal space to expend and branch out. Her branch got lollipopped Thursday and I will keep a close eye on her to keep canopy under control. Note: I've said that a few times... most of them were a failure. We all know It can be tricky between day 14 and day 28 from flip. 🙏
Ahh ..I wish I could call it for 1st week of flower but she is not their yet! I tried to postponed a few days...😔
Well this plant is just happy and have perfectly adapted to the SCROG. 😇 I was expecting some mad stretch. So far with this Malawi stretch is not what breeder got us to be prepared for.. It is only 12 days from flip.....
Everything is nice and even and I can see she starts to pu sh true the screen. I have about 3ft of vertical space for her to expend but I doubt I'll need more than 1 foot. The whole screen is nicely filled and everything is on dial.
Anyone have experience watering with 50gal (200L) container? She seems happy but do you let it all dry out or is it normal for the bottom to always stay moist? Tomorrow I've plan a deeper watering using about 3.5 gal. Please let me know!!
Last pics are a few promising shoots
Old Malawi Tree is officially in flower and kicking it! I've noticed it yesterday before lights went out but it got obvious today! Great news!
Plant have an impressive canopy and seems to dissipate naturally it's growing hormones into all tops popping out of the SCROG. Again, great news!
I gave her the 3.5 gal watering and she took it like nothing happened. Listening to Dr Grenthumb as I writhe this update!
Malawi is flowering prodigiously!! Lots of tops and nice progress. Gotta Love watching all those future buds in the breeze of the fan. Hypnotising. One branch have grown twice the height of the others. The rest is pretty even.
Impressive flower productions! I am very happy that a few branches straight under light went banana and grew crazy: I am getting some colas! Also one branch have variegated leaves so this can make a pretty unique colour bud formation.
I should have set a second layer SCROG for support. Well, we live and learn! Malawi is bulking up nicely! Huge, impressive canopy. She starts to push her first brown pistils. As I remember from first time she did not take too long to mature. This is week 6 from flip, on a 11-12 week schedule, just keeping a close eye for any special nutrition request she might have at this point.
Some nice buds are blooming everywhere and the classic C99 smell is showing up.
Well, I did not see that coming. Malawi is entering harvest window and I doubt I can push her more than 2 maybe 3 weeks. She have about half her hair turned brown and trichomes are swelling and turning a little milkier. An other sign is she starts to lose her bottom leaves. This is a true fast pheno!
She is getting fatter and milkier everyday. Plant is collapsing to itself as buds are gaining weight. She starts to re-flower discretely this week and harvest is on the way! I can see a fair amount of amber trichomes on sugar leaves. Maybe one or two weeks she's the boss.
Last week for this Malawi. She starts to show signs of tiredness. I am scratching my head on how I will hang her to dry. There is just a lot of branches!!
ACE's Malawi seems to have a lot to offer as far as phenotype diversity. This one's major quality was to be a quick finisher but it is not as potent and psychedelic as the other one I grew with the A5. It is some good smoke but nothing crazy here.
I had to harvest her at the same time a relative passed away. I did it as a duty. Usually harvest is a party but this explain the lack of picture. Trimming was easy.
Scrog is not for me. I love large colas and this grow technique results in a lot of buds between 1 to half a gram. I will not scrog anymore.
After cure this pheno stayed stronger and tastier than my other Malawi with a more psychedelic high despite it was the opposite at harvest. She burns really slowly like hashish.
MannnnnnnnnnnnnnN!
Hope it's all going well there for you.
I just moved to Barcelona a couple of weeks ago.
Today I was running at midnight to get some stuff from my weed shop right before closing.
I have a shop that sells Malawi hahahahah
It was probably the second cheapest weed in the list. 6.5 euros a gram.
Daaaaymmmmm this smells real good!!!! very lively smell and taste isn't it??
High is amazing...just like a grower said "delightfully intense". Brilliantly energetic and euphoric I feel. After a whole day walking, after I got to home,I am even 2x energized LOL. And lasts loooong
I bought green crack, peyote cookies, lemon haze and girl scout cookies from there before.I am once again sure that damn commercial strains are non sense, they all feel the same, plastic high...
This is the cheapest one there,a landrace and a brilliant sativa high
AMAZING
(why would people smoke any other while there are landraces...)
CHEERS
@HighRoller909, You catched my hart with your love for landraces and good music, I will always be around the corner, keeping an eye for a future grow, maybe, someday, somewhere.... =)
....Party scene here is back to life with re-opening of dance floor. I am looking forward for a good rave!! 😎😝😈 ....
Cheers from Canada!!
@sativaman, it is really good that its legal in here and ace, fastbuds etc all in the same place.i dont need equipment at the moment,im just discovering the city and its offers :) already started the music school.everything goes smooth so far.compared to netherlands, weed is very cheap here but has great quality.thanks for the wishes man 🤙
@HighRoller909, Nice to read from you, great so see everything seems on top! Spain looks amazing for your music projects.
Malawi is the shit man!! 6.5 E a gram is not bad.. but not sustainable! Hope you brought your equipment with you =)!
Doesn't it feels great to be in a legal (for growing and smoking) country??!!
Have fun mate!!
@DreamOn, thanks a lot!! I did not tag the strain and breeder yet because I am unsure about outcome! Battleting with fungus gnats I had to set up a fan in an already super dry room (20-30% RH).
So far, old leaves are dying and no new growth as come out!
Dear @sativaman, i think there are is Indica in the blend. My favorite would be Black Domina but Ace may use some land race.
I had auto flowering Sativa. Stated flowering fast. But total flowering period was still 16 weeks. So i think fast fininishing thick juicy plant has Indica in the blend. And these days, I don’t grab psychedelic weed as my first choice. I rather have hybrid with quick hit then relaxing sleep.
So your grill looks great . If she is ready, we human must only follow her wishes.
@sativaman, Same man, loving healthy plants, giving me motivation.Grow room = fresh oxygen. 50 gal container is a big game, pushing the limits for that bush. It'll stretch a lot this time
Sometimes, their is nothing like a natural bush! A bail of soil just got ordered for her with a huge 50 gal container. Gotta love gardening! In these tough times those green plants really help me to keep going.
Amazing to see hugh pot inside a tent. Respect! This is heavy lifting work
My biggest is only 21 gal (80 liters) in clay pot. Bottom stay wet only at the start. And soil was compressed from the weight. I use only 2 to 3 liters watering. Again, its depend on your temperature and humidity. Basically I give water only to replace what the plant takes up. Once plant get bigger, the bottom dries pretty fast as root sucking up water. It depends what you do with the soil to promote root. My Zamaldelica did take a lot of root room. Afghani not as much.
