Chloé - blooming, young green shoot
With Beatrix taking a big hit after losing that one branch I decided to germinate one more Gelato. Chloé was just as fast at germinating as Beatrix. 24 hours in a glass of water and the tap root was visible. I put her into a rapid rooter and then straight into a 5-gallon smart pot. About 36 hours later there was still no sign of her, but the next morning when I came back (about 48 hours after planting) there she was, leaves out, hat off and everything. Welcome to the family, Chloé! :D
Chloé has been doing great this week. She's growing like crazy and it already up to her 3rd node. She's still being watered with distilled water but that will change next week, as I'm sure she can definitely take it now.
Chloé is growing fast and big like her big sister Beatrix did before her - I found the first hand-sized leaf. At the end of this week she had 5 nodes and was very healthy and vigorous so I decided it was time for her to be topped so we can start mainlining her. Topped her down to the 3rd node and then removed any other leaves/growth tips beneath that. I did leave her two large node 3 fan leaves to generate some power :)
She also got her first watering with nutes this week, right after being topped.
Week 4 of Veg - she's doing good. I'm super nervous every time I go in to bend her two little stems down - that's how - with one careless movement - her sister Beatrix almost died. So I'm being extra vigilant with her.
Week 5 of veg - she's growing so fast. Her two main stems were up to 4 nodes this week so it was time for her second and last time of being topped. Each stem got topped to the 3rd node and the second node removed - leaving her with 4 colas per stem, 8 total.
Week 6 of veg and all 8 colas are up to either 3 or 4 nodes. I'm still using soft ties to keep those colas growing more or less horizontally for a while longer. Maybe next week I'll think about just letting them grow since I think I can probably flip her in another two weeks/end of the month-ish.
Week 7 of veg. At this point, all 8 of the mail colas have at least 3 nodes which are all trained to grow horizontally. By the end of the week, I stopped training. Those first 3 nodes each will remain horizontal but from here on out it's all up, up, up. In order to help with that, I moved the light a little bit further away - from 19 inches to 23 inches. Hopefully, she'll get the hint that it's now time to get tall. Ideally, I'd like her to be at least another 5 inches taller before I flip her.
Week 8 of veg - I started removing all the softies and let her grow upwards. She's slowly getting the idea. I think I'll keep her in veg one more week after this, let her grow a little bit more and then flip her. My main goal this week was to keep the canopy as even as possible as she's growing. By the end of the week she really was a bushy mess so I went ahead and gave her a haircut. Got rid of all the really big fan leaves but left all nodes on all branches intact.
Week 9 of veg. This week I just let her do her thing for the most part and just grow a bit more before getting flipped. On Thursday she got her end-of-veg flush and then on Friday she got a major haircut. Lollipopped her on the bottom and left her just the top few fan leaves. She moved into the same tent with her sister Beatrix and is now ready for the next stage.
First week of flower for Chloé. She seemed to enjoy the haircut she got last week and stretched a couple of inches this week. There's now a very faint smell to her. I can see a few pistils forming as well. Her sister Beatrix seems a bit faster but then again she was in veg a lot longer.
Chloé did pretty good this week. She's healthy and stretched almost 2 inches. She's slowly starting to flower - I can see more and more pistils every day.
Third week of flower for Chloé. She's developing well, has a bit of a smell now and is even starting to frost a little bit. Buds are forming nicely all over. She got one last big haircut this week. Overall I'm very happy with her :)
Week 4 of flower. Chloé is starting to catch up with her sister Beatrix. Buds are growing well and she's starting to smell. She took well to her last haircut and I'm pretty happy with how she's developing at this point.
Week 5 of flower. Pretty easy week - nothing to do but watch her grow, water her and the occasional photo-shoot :) She's smelling very fruity like her sister Beatrix.
Week 6 of flower for Miss Chloé. So far I really like the mainlining technique. Looks like the buds are going to come out decent (we'll see in a few weeks!) but mainly the amount of work is just so much less than the ScrOG. Once you hit flower you barely have to do anything at all.
Week 7 of flower for Chloé. She started to turn a bit orange this week just like her sister Beatrix. They both got flushed this week and are now on a new, much reduced nute routine. I'm guessing another 2 to 3 weeks should do it!
Week 8 of flower for Chloé. I'm starting to think we're approaching the end here. Most pistils are curled up and orange. Looking at her with my jeweler's loupe I can see a bunch of amber trichomes as well. I'll keep a close eye on her this week but thinking it's not gonna take more than another week or two max. Beatrix seems a few days ahead of her but not much. I'm pretty sure I can find a day to harvest both of them at the same time.
Week 9 of flower and we're definitely approaching the end. Right now the plan is to give her a few more days next week to finish up and then harvest that weekend. Pistils are mostly orange and a good amount of trichomes are amber - by the time I chop her down, it should be just right I think.
Week 10 of flower for Chloé. This was her last week - pistils are orange, lots of trichomes are amber and her leaves started turning yellow. Thursday night I turned her lights off for the last time. She spent Friday and Saturday in the dark. Sunday is harvest day!
Chloé really turned yellow during her last 48 hours in the dark. I had never seen that before so that was very interesting. Overall I'm very happy with the grow and the amount of bud I ended up with!
