😈👹😈👹 DARK DEVIL AUTO®️!!! 😈👹😈👹 Finally getting around to a strain I’ve been dying to grow! I’m hoping for a successful germination rate, keeping my fingers crossed!🤞 For these girls I’ll be growing in two different mediums with a variety of nutrients and amendments from various brands. Of course as always, all inputs are 100% organic. No synthetics allowed in my garden! Two Dark Devils will be grown in Nectar For the Gods #4 Soil Mix and the other who will be grown in Malibu’s Baby Bu’s Potting Soil. Both of these mediums are considered premium and only have the best quality inputs. Both soils also contain coco coir. In my experience I have found that autoflowers grow so much better in soil mixed with coco. Anytime that I’ve grown in heavier based peat soils I get much smaller root balls and root mass in general compared to coco/peat mixed mediums. The NFG #4 is a much lighter substrate than the Bu’s because it’s filled with a ton of perlite and pumice. One benefit is that it also has basalt so it’s considered “paramagnetic”. The one thing I added to the NFG mix was organic Bio-Char blend made from Build A Soils bio char and locally sourced organic bio char. The Baby Bu’s medium is 100% Coco Coir based, mixed with their biodynamic compost, worm castings, bio char, and tons of other beneficial ingredients. This medium is slightly heavier than the NFG even though the NFG is peat and coco based. It really comes down to there being less aeration material in the Bu’s blend compared to the NFG. But hopefully the coco will make up for the lack of aeration compared to the Nectar #4. A benefit claimed by both companies is that their products are properly mixed and stored so the customer does not receive “HOT” soil. The mediums come lightly pre-amended but believe that the Baby Bu’s will have more nutrients than the NFG #4 mix as they claim their soil is an “all mix”. I will be feeding the plants with living oxygenated water, microbial inoculants and light compost teas until the plants look like they need more food. This is my first time growing in both mediums so we’ll see as I grow along! I will also be adopting the northern lights technique that I’m using on my Banana Blaze grow diary! Update: 12/16 All four seeds broke ground around the same time at 9:00pm. 100% successful germination rate. Let’s see how they progress into the vegetative state. Update: 12/18 one out of four seeds may be showing signs of damping off. All four were growing straight as an arrow but today one is slightly slouched and leaves are allowing water to soak in. This usually isn’t a great sign! Update: 12/19 Took the suspected damping off seedling out of her humidity dome and she improved overnight. She is the only one with a greenish colored stem while the other three all have distinctive red/brownish stems similar to other purple strains I have grown. Thanks for stopping by! 😈

These girls are moving along nicely. It’s been so dry that I have to constantly spray down the surface so they don’t dry out! I made a nice microbe tea with worm castings, Myco chum, impello lumina amino acids and a mix of almost all the microbial inoculants I own, I then mixed it with reverse osmosis water until the tds/ppm was at 100. Will do a proper update as the week continues!

So far the girls in the NFG mix are flourishing while the two in the Baby Bu’s blend seem to be struggling to keep up. Clearly this Dark Devil strain prefers a light and airy blend of soil with lots of aeration! One of the seedlings in the Bu’s blend has extremely droopy leaves as if she’s damping off but she’s extremely sturdy so it’s hard to say what’s going on with the seedling growing in the Bu’s medium. The droopier seedling in the bu’s blend is already showing purple leaves as well which seems extremely early for this strain. I’m not sure if the Bu’s blend is a little strong for this auto strain but hopefully they start to develop more as time goes on. I will update this diary as the week goes on!

The Dark Devils are progressing slowly but surely! The two being grown in the Malibu Baby Bu’s mix are starting to recover and grow. At this point I think they’re either going to be severely stunted or slower to flower than the other two. I honestly believe that this mix is a little off balance for auto flowers. It’s either too strong or the ph is way off balance. I made the mistake of not doing a simple 2:1 test of NPK and EC/pH before I planted the seeds.. I will have to test it in the future because I’m curious to know what it will read at. The two being grown in the Nectar for the Gods #4 mix seem to be growing much more steadily and healthy than the other two. I had a feeling from the beginning that the NFG would be superior due to the amount of aeration and better balanced amendments. For my next run I will have to test the NFG against my custom home made mix just for Autoflowers to see how they do! The largest dark devil is already starting to show some pistils so it looks like flower is coming soon for this girl!

So I’m not very impressed with how these girls are growing.... The pheno’s grown in the NFG mix were doing great so I decided LST around the pot which seemed to negatively affect the growth... The other two pheno’s being grown in the Bu’s mix are basically a joke, they have started to flower but look like a seedling, which I did predict stunting would happen with this mix. Basically I have grown plants twice the size of this plant in solo cups. There are also some very funky mutations throughout. Buds growing on leaves, mature 3 finger leaves, etc. Will be interesting to see the end result. I’m guessing 28g total? 😂 She seems to be a picky strain so next time around I will have a much better idea of how to treat her and I know just the medium that will blow these two mixes away 😈

Still just feeding with plain ph’d spring water, tribus bloom microbes and mulched with worm castings. Will probably give these girls some nutrients soon I just wanted to see how amended these soils really were. So far only two phenotypes are expressing purple flowers. Will update more throughout the week!

Unfortunately I did not properly balance my input ph and received a bad ph imbalance along with some deficiencies. Corrected on next watering with ph balanced spring water and microbes. Hopefully she turns around! Good thing I have more seeds especially now knowing how picky she is. I’m excited to try her next time around in the tent!

These Dark Devils have been a headache since the first week of flowering... I really can't blame the genetics as I have only fed the plants once! I basically used these seeds to test the new soils I was considering. I was hoping to find a substitute for times when I cannot make my own... The NFG mix is the winner so far but as you can see there really wasn't enough going on in the soil to promote vigorous growth without the use of fertilizer. I believe if I had a proper feeding schedule for the plants grown in NFG they would have been twice the size. As for the Baby Bu’s this mix was too hot from the beginning. The plants grown in this mix were dark green and became stunted. I think If I had cut the Baby Bu’s soil in half with Coco this could have been a successful medium to grow in. The Baby Bu mix seems more suitable for growing plants (preferably photoperiods) in a raised bed outdoors. One weird thing I noticed about the two plants grown in the Baby Bu’s is that they have roots coming everywhere out of the bottom of the pots which is shocking for how small they are. The girls grown in the NFG have zero roots protruding through the bottom of the pots. Next run with Dark Devil I will test homemade vs NFG mix with a feeding schedule to see how they improve. At least one upside to all of the negatives is that these plants are really pungent. Their smell is by far the strongest out of all the plants I'm growing right now. I'm definitely excited to smoke this one!

These girls are almost ready! Although they’re small and some are very mutated the terps on these are amazing. The two purple phenotypes have a similar smell to each other and so do the green phenos. I’m excited to chop these and get on to some new strains!

Besides the small yield the buds produced from this Sweet Seeds strain were very impressive! I tested out a couple different potting mixes and looking back now I wish I had picked a freebie seed to test with. The buds are some of the most aromatic I’ve ever smelt, the purple phenos almost smell like diesel and red wine ⛽️ 🍷🔥 the green/purple phenos had a more fruity/skunky type smell 🍉 The purple phenos also had sugary resin drops all over the buds! I’ve only ever seen this in pictures and was pretty stoked to see it on my homegrown. I plucked them off and added them to my scissor hash and smoked that while I was trimming, which was delicious btw! 😋 Now onto the soil I was testing ... Normally I make my own soil but this past year has been hectic trying to find the supplies I normally get. Covid created a big growing boom in Michigan and almost everything I needed to build a soil properly was out of stock and outrageous to ship to my home. I wanted to find a soil that is available throughout my town at hydro shops and the Baby Bu’s and Nectre For The Gods are carried at almost every store. Both soils had “premium ingredients” and sounded great on paper. Both are geared towards living Organics but both fell short of their promises. The Baby Bu’s was unbalanced from the beginning and stunted two different type of phenos making them look almost identical. The yield from the two plants grown in the Baby Bu’s was maybe 10grams total not including trim? The other two grown in the NFG mix yielded slightly more but nothing that I was hoping for. I think both types of soil are fine if you use bottled nutrients or plan to add other amendments like castings, basalt, etc. But on their own I wouldn’t recommend either for autoflowers.

Thats right what you say,,, they love it fluffy and only light fertilised..... its never to late to give her better ( for her) growingmedium.... Dark devil is such alovely strain. ive grown her 2 years ago...my firast attempft with LST and so fresh to indoorgrowing. And i had all colors from soft pink to dark purple nearly black. And tehy tasted great!!!!

@Mrs_Larimar, I can certainly tell! The bu’s mix is lighter than something like ocean forest but the girls still aren’t too happy in that mix. I’m curious to see how they will grow out of it.. I can see at least one becoming stunted or maybe even not making it! I’m definitely planning on lst as I’ve seen this strain get very tall! I hope that I get a similar color profile from these girls!! If it’s similar to LSD25 I will be very happy 😎

Was going to ask about the tea but sounds confusing.... have you got a simpler version I could start with?💚 😊
FreshCoastOrganics
FreshCoastOrganicscommented4 years ago
@Greenfingeress757575, Hey there! I’ll give you a super simple recipe to save time! A great compost tea starter is “Myco Chum” it’s basically the main ingredients for starting a tea which is kelp, humic acids and molasses. The microbes feed and thrive off these ingredients! So you take about a cup of compost or worm castings per gallon of water and you can either put it in a tea bag or straight in the solution, it’s really personal preference. From there add 1-5ml of the Myco Chum and aerate for 24-36hrs until it’s nice and frothy! You can add your normal nutrients to the tea once it’s done brewing to make a nutrient tea or you can just add it straight up! I get a little crazy and add a whole lot more but the recipe I gave is a great starting point!

I see it like you its just the soilmixes that dont work for them. That sucks totally . i think that mix is good for Photoperiods, after seedlingsstation
Mrs_Larimar
Mrs_Larimarcommented4 years ago
@FreshCoastOrganics, I have grown some genetics from sweet seeds. and the dark devil too. These are normally vigor growers and the soil is the base of growing----- if i answere growquestions i always look or ask at first wich sil or medium is taken.... and if its to rich or wrong ph or both,, you plants look shit I reused my soil and was not doing it good. my old soil was to rich and girls dont want to grow, until i gave them other medium
FreshCoastOrganics
FreshCoastOrganicscommented4 years ago
@Mrs_Larimar, It’s crazy how something like the medium can affect the genetics. Some people always blame bad grows on genetics but never the substrate that the plants are being grown in. Another auto could absolutely love this mix but you never know until you try different mixes. That’s why I never really like to judge a strain until I’ve grown it multiple times in different environments, then I can make fair judgement about the genetics. I definitely agree though! I’m going save this mix for the summer and test it out with some of my photo period strains!

FreshCoastOrganicscommented4 years ago
@Canadamade420, So far they’re doing pretty good. They’re actually a lot happier in the NFG mix which is the one swimming in pumice and perlite 😂 I figured she’d like it better than the heavier mix but hopefully the girls in the Bu’s mix turn out alright, they’re slouching a bit while the girls in the NFG are reaching for the sun

Now they look dangerous !. lol Sweet seeds have a certain look of potency to them with their strains darker phenos. I had the same with 2 being green and mean and fruity but 2 being dark and dangerous looking and also purple and red. lol 2 opposite phenos of the same strain. Good luck on the harvest and dry fresh. can't beat a little variety , why settle for what's available when we have a whole industry offering so many choices. lol Any idea what your heading for with strain ect. ?.

@FreshCoastOrganics,wow sounds like a fun run coming. love Mars lights. I am pushing mine to the max with plant count and still they are producing rock solid nugs. I did the test of the sp3000 and tsl2000 for them and have not looked back since. I own the sp250 too. Full on Marsian and even coined the phrase of being marsians. love seeing it used on a couple of threads now. lol be interesting to fly some new breeders seeds too. Good luck . Will be watching for it or maybe tag me in?.

@Ganjagrandaddy, Although they were small the smell and amount of trichomes was amazing! The straight purple phenos almost smell like red wine while the green smell fruity just like yours did!they’re currently drying right now and the purples phenos are the darkest strain I’ve ever personally seen so hopefully she smokes as good as she looks! For my next run I’m going to be testing and reviewing Mars hydro lights, tent and a also a new breeder I found local to me in Michigan. The breeders names is Izzy’s Autoflowers and I’ll be growing the chefs “Auto Orange Pound Cake”. I’m anxious to get started on them!
