OK, I had to stop growing last year :¬( but I'm back now with two strains that I've grown before, both in one pot. I'm aiming for 8 zips total, let's see how we go. This will be my standard Shallow Water Culture method, where I have a 16L pot filled with expanded clay, which drains out the bottom into another 16L pot that has a two inch shallow pool, which then overflows into a separate 30L tank. Both these seeds were placed into a one inch eazyplug cube, the seeds were not soaked they just went straight into the cube which then sat in a bowl with a lid. The weather is warm and they both germinated in 3 days. I have found this to be the most reliable stress free way to germinate, and there is no danger of breaking the delicate roots by presoaking and all that stuff, it's just not necessary. This way the cube can go straight into my medium. They are currently two days old now and I'll put my first grow week up in five days time. I'm really looking forward to the Jedi Kush it is my all time favourite strain, the nuggets are small but very heavy and super resinous. The Blackberry Kush is from Dutch Passion and like most of their stuff is very vigourous. They both should be ready to harvest in ten weeks so that's pretty fast compared to all the other strains I've grow. At the moment I've got them under a round Chiled puck with some extra blue, attached to a round Meanwell driver that puts out about 90W, as they spread out I'll gradually add the two QB96 boards, which can crank up to 180W each. At the moment I'm just using about 40W.

Been on the blue tinged Chiled puck gonna move up to the two quantum boards for week two at low level to spread the light better. Fairly standard week. Waiting patiently for day 10 when the stems will begin to thicken. Otherwise not much to report here. Now running at 50W for each QB board so 100W total, upped nutes to 700ppm for 2nd week.

Growth has been vigorous. Looking at my 2019 Blackberry the first set of true leaves had 3 frond, then 7, this one started with 5 and the second set was 7. Stem is short and thick, so while the Jedi is 4" this is only 3 inches with thick leave. At day 12 I decided to take the leaves off on the third node to expose the four shoots below to light. The Jedi being more open is getting plenty of light through the plant. I have decided to top the Jedi at the fourth node but I may which I can almost do today certainly in a day or two, but because the Blackberry is more compact and not ready to top at the third node yet, I may even let the Jedi get to the fifth node which I've never done. But this all depends on how the Blackberry goes so I'll wait and see if she reveals herself. I have plenty of light and space as I'm only growing one pot so I will draw from my previous grows, I know the Jedi is going to get very branchy. After the first week I have started using a 1:2:1 ratio of GH flora Micro/Gro/Bloom and the ppm up to 800. I think I'll keep the GH ratio at 1:2:1 for the third week before taking it back down to 1:1:1 Micro/Gro/Bloom. I now have the ChiLed 100W light off and I have the two QB96 lights at 50W each so I can have them coming in at an angle on both sides. Reading 30k LUX at the moment. I'll gradually keep shifting the QB lights apart as the grow progresses and up the power. But at the moment 100W total seems plenty. Just got a new camera app for my old iPhone, Camera M, and it has made it soo much easier to get good shots with the right colour balance in sharp focus. EDIT: just after I uploaded week two I went to examine the girls and decided to top them both at the fourth node, I found I could just barely get to the Blackberry, and it looked the same for the Jedi, however the Jedi looked strange and I was worried that i may have not had enough room and damaged a new shoot, but my confusion was because I did not notice but at the fourth node, there are three leaves coming out not two so there were three shoots! I may have damaged one because I was only looking for two, but it's too small to tell at this stage, I'll have to wait a couple of days for the shoots to grow to see what I've done. Hopefully there are two undamaged shoots, and maybe even three.

Only have 4 fan leaves on the Blackberry and I took two of those off early. It appears to have begun to flip to flower at about 2.5 weeks so no more big leaves are growing, this is quite different to the last Blackberry I grew but right out of the blocks it has a very large number of petioles. Jedi is looking more normal apart from her having three shoots and leaves coming off the 4rd node instead of the normal two. I ended up just leaving one branch coming off the 4th node, so there are 7 branches in total, and 8 off the Blackberry. On day 21 I did some very light defoliation on the Jedi and nothing on Blackberry apart from trying to spread her out a bit which is not easy because she is a very thick and meaty plant, I'm curious now to see if she really is in flowering mode. I guess I'll know by the end of next week. Did a first nutrient change at the end of week three, went back to a 2:1:2 micro/grow/bloom ratio at about 1200ppm. I have also upped the light power from 100W to 160W in total, so that 80W each for the QB96's. And I have spread them out a bit more. I'm getting about 30k lux at the canopy so that seems ok for the moment.

Everything is slowing moving along, looking a little more jungly now. In keeping with my plan to not use a net I've managed to tie the Jedi Kush down to flatten her out. Whereas the Blackberry Kush is a little to rigid to do that by I've pulled the stems apart as much as I could. Still only running 200W of lighting. Blackberry had begun to flower and the Jedi only has a few pistols on the stems, I'll prolly call week five the first flowering week, so let's still call this a veg week. Not a lot more to say, they do look very attractive though. I haven't needed to do any massive defoliation yet, but I have steadily been removing small bunches of leaves every day. EDIT:, At the end of Day 28 they suddenly looked like they were moving into a new phase, it's funny how it happens so suddenly. Just a few hours ago they didn't look like this. Anyhoo it suddenly felt like the time to do the first major defoliation. I left a lot of large leaves on the perimeter because, why not? It helps me chop off a lot of new leaves that are just about to open up, because I reason that those huge healthy fan leaves are going to supply whatever is needed. Also it's not until I do a major defoliation that I get to see the structure unimpeded and I can then begin to plan how I will deal with all the secondary and tertiary shoots later on.

Well here we are at week five, where the girls sort of show their hands. Blackberry is very deceptive with the red tips and slightly curling leaves making the flowers look a little dry, but under a loupe they look lush, probably another week to go before the flowers begin to fill out. Jedi on the other hand is just beginning to flower so I will be interested in how she rocks up next week. Blackberry shot up to 18+ inche and the Jedi is a bit below that although she looks less due to bending. I'm struggling a bit with how to defoliate the Jedi some more so I'll think I'll let her go for a few days then go in. Maybe I can get some sticks tied to the top of the pot in order to spread both girls out a bit. I have just put the light on to maximum so they are pumping out 450W of true light, prolly about 520 at the power cord. I'll be changing the solution today up to about 2200ppm

Not sure if it's me or the plant but I sort of feel that the Blackberry could be putting on a bit more weight, but the Jedi is only just coming into flower properly so maybe I'm just impatient. Hopefully she will begin to bulk up a bit more this week. Had to do a lot of undergrowth pruning on the Jedi. Otherwise a pretty normal week.

Blackberry is looking a bit less vigorous compared to my previous grows, doesn't look like she's gonna chunk up much from here, so lets see what happens. Jedi is beginning to chunk up this week and I've had to do some thinning out to make room. Nevertheless less the bit of weed I've been able to sample so far is pretty nice typically fruity for the Blackberry.

Blackberry are looking very pretty lots of trichomes beautiful colours, as you might be able to see I've been nicking bits of bud as I was getting a bit antsy. It's easy to vape the fresh buds in a good vape like the vapeexhale. Looks like the Blackberry will come down next week, and then I'd say another two or maybe three for the Jedi, which are typically compact and dense if unspectacular looking, but it's a dynamite smoke, one of my favourite and they juice up really well. I have the light on the Blackberry turned down. Gotta start thinking about the next two now. I have a one off Sour Crack, and Short Stuff purple Gorilla, which I'm anxious to see because I love their Jedi Kush so much. And a Brooklyn Sunrise which I've not seen grow fully yet. Gotta choose two from those three.

I had to chop the Blackberry soon after week 8 as I went in there and it was very apparent the time was right. I have been able to spread the Jedi Kush out and clean her up a bit and I now just have the two lights on at a total of 250W. Big surprise how the Jedi went suddenly from wispy flowers to chunky buds. Typical Jedi the calyxes are small and dense and the resin is dripping off them, this is my all time favourite smoke, morning noon or night time is always the right time to vape up a Jedi. Anyhoo oh yeah I got a wet trimmed weight off the Blackberry of 365gm so that will be about 75g dried. The Jedi, looks like she will be at least 4 or 5 zips, maybe six and maybe even more, very hard to tell. So not much more happening now just seeing what these Jedi do. This Jedi Kush, she looks so ordinary and unassuming but she is an absolute killer.

Jedi Kush is enjoying the extra space now that Blackberry is out of the way. I could have chopped this down last week but there has been a bit more packing, I could chop her down now but I think I'll let her go for another week unless something develops. Absolutely dripping with resin, which is what I expected from this, small rock hard nuggets.

The Jedi came down at 11 weeks. The other blackberry came down at 8.5 weeks, for a total production of 2.5zips plus 7.5 zips. I've had to estimate the Jedi at the moment, there was 1050 gm wet weight of trimmed bud on minimal stem. I would expect the dry weight to be 21% of that but I will update the numbers next week. She is a spacious plant and very branchy but you can continually trim branches as you defoliate throughout the grow, she responds well to both. Floats like a butterfly and hits like a steam train. It's been over two weeks since the Blackberry was harvested and she's all gone now, never even got a chance to dry properly. Basically she kept me going while waiting for this Jedi, who I already knew was going to be soaking with resin. I was hoping for 8 zips total with 4 for each plant but I ended up only getting 2.5 on the blackberry but I got an easy 7.5 of mostly grade a bud so a total of 10 zip for both plants in the same pot. They were expected to mature together but the black berry was a week or so early, so as you can see in the root shots her roots had died and made the Jedi roots rot as well but this shows you the resiiance of the Shallow Water Culture as I do it because of added redundancy, I could not even tell there was a root problem didn't after the Jedi at all but it's good to be away of, I'm back to single pots for a while now.
