My set of feminised Red Hot Cookies have arrived from Sweet Seeds.
I am super excited about this strain, I am of course hoping for the gorgeous red color to pheno to present itself in these seeds.
I have been following a few other grows on this strain and everyone has had great results.
I began germination by wetting paper towel folder in half twice.
I placed the seeds into the damp paper towel and placed it in a plastic bag.
Within 24 hours all the seeds had cleanly popped from the shell.
48 hours from the time I placed into a wet paper towel, the shoots were ready to be transplanted.
I am using peat pucks as they are an easy to use medium that provides the shoot with everything it needs during the first few days.
I planted each seed all the way into the puck with the cotyledon just covered with peat.
Within 72 hours of the paper towel, these little ladies had pushed up well from the peat pucks and began showing roots out the bottom.
By 4 days from germ the seedling were ready for there first pot.
I used 100% pro mix soil for this step. I have used a coco mix at this stage before and find it makes it very hard on the young plant to get calcium.
Since the plants are only in these small pots for a week or two I now use straight up soil.
I made a soil conditioner mix of 1 ml per gall Molasses, 2 ml per gal Enzymes, and 2.5ml per gal Cal Mag.
I adjusted the ph to 6.7 and drenched the pots after I transplanted the peat pucks, until I had a small amount of runoff out the bottom.
My goal here is to try and activate the soil around the plant as soon as possible.
When I transplant into larger pots I will do the same thing in larger doses.
Since I began using simple Black Strap Molasses I have noticed a huge increase in the terpene and resin productions, as well as a much stronger odor from the plant.
I will be growing these plants using entirely under Led lighting which will be a first for me as I have been using HID.
For veg they are under a Spider Farmer SF-1000, for flower they will be going under a HLG 600r spec.
I got a new Flowering tent for these guys, a Mars Hydro 4x8. Boy is there a big difference in the quality of this new tent and the Vivosun tent I am using for Veg. The vivo sun does the trick but out of the box the Mars hydro is just so much beefier. The zippers are always a worry on tents and these seem to be pretty nice.
Seedlings are doing great. No issues so far.
True leaves are showing.
Plants received water with Molasses, Enzymes, Mycorrhizae, and Alaska Fish Fert.
2 more weeks or so at this rate before they are transplanted into 5 gallon pots and begin veg in earnest.
Plants are all doing amazing !
They are all growing in a very even and uniform fashion.
Seems like quality genetics so far. Plants are on track to be transplanted by next week or one more tops
Fed with very light dose of supplemental nutrients at 6.5ph
Plants are getting 25k lux.
Transplanted into 5 gallon fabric pots.
Soil blend is
3 parts pro mix, 1 part ocean farms, 1 part coco, 1 part worm castings, 2 tbsp bat guano per 5 gallon. 1 test dolomite lime per 5 gallon. 1 tsp microchorizae dusted on roots when transplanting.
After potting I watered them all with green planet dual fuel. Pro cal and molasses at 6.5 ph.
These plants are very vigorous.
They bushed out and adapted after transplant very quickly. I topped them and began training them this week.
They seem to want to stretch quite a bit so I have lowered the light a bit.
No issues at all so far. No transplant shock or anything at all really.
Had to defoliate a bit this week. Plants are very healthy.
They like the humidity and the nutrient level seems spot on.
Nice colored leaves no signs of deficiencies.
Plants are under Scrog now and are beginning to fill it out.
I defoliated again. And watered twice with transition to bloom level nutrients.
Lots of molasses and I added bat guano and worm casting top dressing.
I also added nematodes, and predatory mites to the soil as I find this keeps thrips from ever getting established.
I had taken one of these plants and placed it into flower directly from seed to see what it would do and It has grown some very nice flowers already that started turning a deep purplish red at 2 weeks.
I defoliated a bit and Flipped the lights to 12 /12 so the plants are all now in pre flower.
Lots of variation on the phenos so far, crossing my fingers for more like the one I through into flower right away which is doing phenomenal.
Plants are showing pistils so I have begun counting down now :)
The Plants are very lanky and sativa like much like the one I threw into flower early.
Here is hoping for those gorgeous colors !.
Plants look great no issues so far.
I am trying all organic nutrients on this run using the Green Planet Medi 1 Line up.
The plants seem to be loving it so far.
I defoliated and am still training the branches into the scrog during the stretch.
No red Phenos so far but some nice buds none the less.
The plants are all really taking off nice bud growth and very healthy looking canopy.
Plants are going through water every 3 days on the dot now.
I have noticed that one plants buds are showing some purple hues but the others remain colorless so far.
The Smell is really nice already. Very fruity it reminds me of fruit loops.
My light is on full blast and the plants are praying nicely.
There have been no signs of stress from the flip.
I will likely defoliate a bit at the end of the week to make sure everything can get as much light as possible.
The plants are all doing amazing !
When you open the tent it smells like fruit loops.
There is some red color in one of the phenos now and it looks gorgeous.
The red one seems to also be intent on producing the largest buds.
I took a look under the microscope and saw purple trichomes :)
The buds are all insanely sticky and resinous. I am using chopsticks to tuck the larger colas under the scrog because if I touch it my hand smells all day lol.
No signs of nutrient stress or light stress at all.
The plants are getting watered every 3rd day.
I am really enjoying the Medi One lineup from Green Planet, I have noticed a huge difference in overall plant health and vigor since I switched to it.
Well the red came in with force on one of the 4 phenos.
No color on the remaining ones but wow is this one every going nuts.
It changed color and then immediately started plumping up. The buds are super dense already and quite large.
It smells fruity and earthy right now and is sucking up nutrients like there is no tomorrow.
All the plants are very happy and are praying daily lol.
The buds seem to be much more resinous than what I am used to, I am using chopsticks to manipulate the buds when I need to, as otherwise I reek all day.
I am having some issues with thrips but nothing to write home about.
I wish ladybug season would get here sooner.
The plants are all doing great. The color is really starting to pop now on the plants that turned red.
The buds are massive and covered in resin.
From a microscope you can see what looks to be purple trichrome.
I am very happy with one pheno in particular.
On the home stretch now and boy are these girls photogenic
The buds are sparking like massive rubies.
I can honestly say I have never grown a prettier plant.
One pheno just keeps getting redder buds and has very little red in the leaves. This really makes the red pop even more.
It smells very fruity and has a hint of diesel.
The plants are starting to show there fade.
14 days left max !
The plants are all very dense, smell like fruit juice, and are ready to come down any day.
I have been very happy with the results so far. The very dominant red pheno plant also has grown the largest buds by far
Some are close to the size of my fist and are dripping with resin.
The non red variants smell very nice even and also have large buds even without living up to the name :)
This is a really great strain !. I got one plant that showed its purple red colors within the first couple weeks of flower. It had very little purple on the leaves but the buds were the most colorful I have ever seen, the buds were also massive. I had a few other non red phenos that grew very large buds and also had a great smell and bag appeal. This is definitely a strain that I can see a lot of people using in there breeding projects. I got the largest crop I have ever produced from these lovely ladies 😀 The strain tested at 16.80 % THC and 0.20% CBD,
This was an amazing grow for me, I harvested my biggest yield ever with 18 ounces from my four plants. I also got really lucky with my red pheno and I plan on re vegging it and trying to use it as a mother down the line.
All 4 plants had very large buds, the largest though were on the red pheno. The 3 non reds still had sparkles of purple in the buds and were somewhat more fruity smelling than the red pheno.
These plants were all super hardy and required very little work once they were in the scrog.
I am still having some issues with thrips but they seemed to not like these plants as much as my previous grow. I think that my organic nutrient lineup also did a lot to help me get this large of a harvest.
The smell after curing is very nice and fruity. The smoke is smooth and tastes to me like juicy fruit.
When you bust up a bud the colors are really nice and give the buds some really nice bag appeal.
I think Red hot cookie is going to be a big name strain, and I defiantly recommend growing it !
*Update* I had the strain tested at the local store and in came in at 16.80 % THC and 0.20% CBD. They use a GemmaCert Cannabis Analyser Professional
Awesome stuff but you still write veg when it's flowering (and damn good flowering) change the diary entry. Good luck I love this strain growing it as well.
Yeah exactly :)
Sometimes I like to throw it into flower right away when hunting for new phenos as it express its genes quicker than waiting for a long veg. I usually take a clone before I do this so that if it is what I am looking for I have a copy. This one is very dark purple in flower which I like. But hasn't had much smell yet. Hopefully that improves :)
Thanks for your interest @timbarin,
Hi there. If you read the entry for this week you will see I placed one of the red hots into flower as a seed to see if the red pheno would express. The rest of the plants and specifically the ones I am focusing on are all still in veg. @timbarin,
@DrDuhboto, most of the red phenos I have seen yield seems to be low but yours looks real good. Think I might have to buy a few seeds myself and try this strain. Good work pal👍
Thanks so much ! It is by far the nicest plant I have ever grown. I germinated 6 seeds of which I chose the strongest 4 to grow. Only 1 turned completely red, the other had hints of red in the buds but nothing like the superstar one. I am re-vegging that plant and It will be in my garden for a long time I think. @Esoteric_growing,
Thanks !
With scrog I am finding it more and more important to make sure to clean up the scruffy branches early on. More air flow and energy going into the bigger buds on top.
It makes for some beautiful bonsai :)
