KLP germinated a couple of days before the others. All looking good. Started in rapid rooter plugs and then once the popped put them into small pots with a mix of coco, perlite and worm castings. Also added recharge into the mix.
Going to shift to Canna from this weeks. Not getting the results that I expect from the Emerald Harvest. My grow previous to joining GrowDiaries was with Canna and that went really really well.
Transplanted seedlings into their final pots. The KLP and GD went into 5 Gal Smart Pot bags, GDP and GG went into 3 gal radicle bags.
The Radicle bags were filled with a mix of coco, perlite and worm castings with a teaspoon of recharge each. Not very much perlite though as it was the last of my bag.
The Smart Pot bags are from the previous grow. The have the root ball taken out (just the top core of it) and have been topped up with the same mix as above. The have been flushed with water then flushed with Emerald Harvest CalMag and Canna Cannazym about 3 days ago.
Put 40ml of Cannazym into the feed in the hope of helping the smart pots, hope it doesn’t impact the Radicle bags too much.
Broke a leaf of the KLP feeding - doh!
The are looking really good at the moment. Will be interesting to see how they handle the transplant. I hope that the feed isn’t too hot for them.
Will be Main-lining them over the next couple of weeks. And am going to try and produce some denser buds. The autos are all a bit fluffy. Not sure if I had too much nitrogen during flower.
Hopefully the switch to Canna nutes will help as I have more experience with them.
Day 14 - Put them onto the reservoir today. With 20L of nutrient solution. They seem to be doing very well.
I think that there are fungus gnats though so I have done two drenches of VectoBac (NilNat) and have added it to the reservoir as well.
I will refresh the reservoir tomorrow and make sure that it doesn’t have a change to develop any pythium
Day 18 - GDP just starting to grow 6th node so have topped her to start main-lining. The top has gone into the clone dome. Hope to do the other 3 at the end of the week. Added air stone to resovoir - hoping to avoid pythium I had last grow. Have a bottle of Pythoff just in case. But don’t want to disturb the good microbial life if I don’t have to.
Everything else seems to be going well!
I’ve topped all 4 plants above the 3rd node (having let them grow out to 5 nodes.
They are all doing ok - though I am finding that the PH is drifting very high over 2-3 days. I will check daily this week as that is definitely going to cause problems.
While training the shoots down for the mainlining I have cracked a number of them off the main stem (doh!). I am hoping that the will recover ok from this.
They don’t seem to be showing any signs of distress yet but it is definitely a stress on them.
As part of the main-lining I have also done a bit of defoliation. I think this was also a bit much. Let’s see how they bounce back.
Snapped a branch on the Golden Goat - Doh! So now it is going to be mainline off just one side.
Changed to the new Aqualvalve 5 - with the 5mm tubing instead of 3mm. Be interesting to see how that helps
9 days ago also snapped the GDP side branch, but not all the way through. You can see that one side is stunted in the photos.
The GD is much slower than the rest with the GDP being most vigorous. The GG is growing fast but looks a bit weird. The KLP is doing really well.
The clones I took when I first topped each plant have taken well. I have pushed the nutrients a bit again this week. Starting to see a bit of nute burn on one plant but rest are fine. Want to ensure that they have enough nitrogen going into flower.
I was running 24hrs light but switched to 18:6 last week. This has made the KLP really stretch! Might go back to 24 though the other plants were a bit compact.
Have been lightly defoliating. Mainly the new growth that I am not going to use.
Day 39 - Did quite a bit of defoliation on all plants. Mainly lower fan leaves and any upper fan leaves that were stealing light from the stuff I want to grow :-)
Flipped the lights today (1st March). Growth is looking great. Have been running the nutrients quite hot (1.9ec) but no burnt tips or deficiencies. I think having worm castings in the initial blend helps. But really happy with the veg phase. It was a bit longer than I would like, but was focusing on the training and main-lining. The main-lining has gone ok but I haven’t done a great job with the training. So they are a bit taller than I would like and not as spread. Have the SCROG net up so will spread them out as they go. I think I have plenty of vertical space to work with anyway.
The last two weeks have been a bit of a nightmare. I was a bit overzealous with an organic insecticide just before I switched into flower and it has really hammered them.
They have bounced back - but I am not happy with progress.
Also the KLP is stretchy AF (back right corner in photo)! Not sure what I am going to do about that
Big defoliation again today. The KLP and GDP and going great guns. Not seeing any deficiencies in the tent at this stage. Finding the Cana nutrients much easier to work with than the Emerald Harvest. The KLP is super stretchy and just looking great. The GG has been overgrown by the KLP and the GDP so I have cleared some space and added another Scrog net to try and make some room for her. I could easily grow just one GDP or KLP and fill the tent! Looking forward to trying them and seeing if they are keepers.
Really good bud development on the GDP and KLP. They look like they will be ready a week or two earlier than the GG and GD.
Looking pretty good. The stretch seems to have stopped thank god! Light is nearly at the top of the tent. The KLP is getting frosty! The GDP too, but not as much. The other two are lagging behind a bit.
Looking good. The KLP is frosty as!!! KLP and gdp overshadowing the other plants which is a bit of a shame. But will be good to see which I might want to grow next.
Took a bunch of fan leaves and smaller branches out of the GD and KLP. Worried about them not getting enough airflow. The are all looking very good though. The GG is being overshadowed by the others but should still produce enough to try.
Loving the simplicity of the Canna nutrients after the Emerald harvest and am having no problems with lockouts or deficiencies.
The buds are not lengthening as much as I would like at this stage. I think I could have thinned them out more. But should be ok.
Everything is looking good. Looks like I am going to get lots of golf ball type nuts of GDP, GD and KLP. Pain to trim!! GG has the nicest structure of me, more traditional sort of colas
Overall really happy with how it is looking! Would love to have the buds less airy and bigger but do have lots of them. I think next time I will optimize for fewer but much larger buds. Trimming is going to be hell with this lot!!
Looking really good. Not super stocked on the structure of the buds themselves but can’t complain about anything else. Seeing lots of foxtailing in the GD and GG but not at all in the other two - which is interesting. My guess is that if I had thinned the plants much more aggressively I would be seeing more of the photogenic large colas that I was after. Next time!
Switching back to Canna nutrients after a couple of cycles of Emerald Harvest has been soooooo gooooood!! Not a single sign of deficiency through the whole grow! Was able to get them to just a tiny bit of tip burn occasionally. I think the worm castings helped too. The next run I am going to do exactly the same as this. Might change up slightly to get fewer, larger buds
Very easy to grow, it wanted to be huge. I think I could of been much more aggressive with the training and trimming though. I have ended up with tons of smaller buds. It is going to be trimming hell! I much prefer fewer, larger colas. Harvested at 61 days
KLP is ready to harvest, that will be getting the chop today. GG and GD need another 4-5 days I think.
The KLP is by far the prettiest plant Ive grown!
Very forgiving to grow. Put up with a lot of abuse. This is the only one of the four to produce dense nugs. So I think it didn’t mind the day and night high temps. I think my next run will just be this
