First week of veg the plants were topped at the 3rd node. They will undergo LST in the coming weeks I highly recommend this style. I intend to top the 3rd node one more time. Then the second node only once. Giving the first node branches a chance to catch up as the plant heals. As you will see this works incredibly well at keeping and equal even canopy.
The plants have begun the process of both LST and mainlining. Three of the plants from each strain will receive my own version of mainlining. The other three will receive only LST to expose the lower nodes and thus create more of a bushy plant. Both methods are proven effective. As you can see they have been pulled down with 18 gauge wire.
This week was all about training. By pulling down on the main branch after the first topping at the 3rd node. Providing enough time for the second node to develop, which in turn also gets topped at the same time the top/3rd node gets topped for a second time. All the while the first node has a chance to thicken up. I highly recommend this strategy as it will consistently provide 10 main stalks. Which I lightly tie down until they reach the edge of the pot. Then lightly tie them to bamboo shoots around the edges so the stem can grow equally and giving those branches a hard time pushing their way up the bamboo. Making the stems even stronger as you will see in the following weeks.
As aforementioned two techniques are implemented here. The first being a Bushmaster approach to pulling down the branches and letting the nodes create their own stems. The second being a version of my own mainlining technique. Topping at the third node and letting the second and first node catch up. Before I top the third node a second time. Topping the second node only once and all the while the first little node has time to grow big and strong and above the rest. Creating an even canopy. Both methods are tried and true. Both require at least 3 months of growth and training from seed to flowering. Especially with the Bushmaster's approach which will create very thick density in the canopy and great buds. However in order to utilize either strategy you must be patient and diligent at training your plants and working each stem independent of the others to be strong like the others. Taking your time is the key. As always Ph Ph Ph! Less is more with the nutrients.
This week was a great week. The gelato 3 really took off and the zikkitels bounced back her phenotype is an oddball but I'm confident the buds will be great. The gelato 1 and sunset 1 that being mainline got the Kyle kushman chiropractics, wilted as expected and bounced right back. After listening to TooL laterarus all day they are all spiraling outward towards perfection with all the love of God. They are not far from going into flower at this point so it was time to get the clone/veg room prepped and ready. Since its winter I had to do a lot of weatherproofing using foam insulation to close in a 3×6 space in the grow room. Then taking an old wall mounted heater and rewire it to cut off the heat portion and isolated the vent fan only. I closed in the gaps and mounted it perfectly at the entrance door, which is made of reflective roll foam insulation. I then cut out the vent hole and covering it with a charcoal fish tank filter. Which works wonders it completely prevents light leaks and doesn't imped the air flow at all. I then used a hidden kitchen drain vent cap. To vent and pull in air from the back of the grow room. To circulate the exact same temperature and humidity of the main grow room into the veg room. The best part about this vent cap other than it was free. Is that it only works one way so it continuously sucks air without letting any light or heat out. I also switch up the nutrients and am now using espoma garden tone 3-4-4. It has calcium and magnesium both and sulfur. It also contains 7 bacteria that slowly break down 2.2% of the organic matter and each bacteria is responsible for feeding the plant each macro and mirco nutrients. So it's pretty much an all in one, plus with the very bacteria in the amendment itself. It is ph balanced so it will not burn your plants. Since only 0.2% nitrogen is from ammonia. So as long as you don't over do it you won't burn your plants. So if your interested i would start with half of the recommended 1/3 cup around the outside edges of your pot. Or you can pour this same amount into a one gallon milk jug overnight and shake occasionally before adding. This will activate the bacteria before you add it. Just make sure you don't have chlorine in your water and rinse out all of the amendment from the jug. Again it is a slow realase organic nutrient. So you must let the bacteria do its job. But I'm telling you using this in combination with Recharge works wonders. Since the bacteria break down and make the nutrients ready for the mycorrhizal fungi and trichoderma that are attached to the roots to take up to the plant (as needed) that's why it's called Recharge. To keep that battery fully loaded by feeding the fungus molasses at least once a month. Happy growing my friends please check out earth man's living soil. Root love product. Its 500 times more concentrated than great white and recharge combined. No additives just 4oz. Of 100% pure mycorrhizal fungi and trichoderma
This will be the final week of veg and the plants look beautiful. I began this grow with blue planet organic nutrients and still use them off and on. However I have found the plants really love the full organic grow combination of espoma garden tone and the mycholrizal fungi and trichoderma bacteria blend of Earth Man's living soil Root Love. This is by far the best Mycholrizal fungi and trichoderma bacteria I have every seen or used. Right now it's currently on sale and even at full price it's more than worth the money. Doing the math on recharge, GreatWhite and even stump tea all of these products you can see I have tried and tested. Most are only 2%-4% ratio of mycholrizal fungi and trichoderma bacteria blend. The remaining 98%-96% is filler of molasses and dried kelp. Which don't get me wrong the fungus needs sugar. However Earth Man's living soil; Root Love product is 96% pure mycholrizal fungi and trichoderma bacteria blend $25 for a 4 oz. Bag. If you do the math on this and simply adding your own molasses to the mix. You would have enough mycholrizal fungi and trichoderma bacteria blend to make fifty 4 oz. containers of recharge or GreatWhite. You can find it on Earth Man Living Soil. Com or on his YouTube channel by the same name. Every ounce is completely lab tested and as aforementioned it will be on sale for the next two weeks along with multiple videos on YouTube which fully explains how each bacteria and fungi are responsible for breaking down organic matter and make it available for your plants to intake. So no unchleated nutrients or harmful chemicals to worry about if you just let nature do the work for you. As well as Espoma garden tone which contains 7 essential bacteria responsible for breaking down each nutrient for your plants added into the organic fertilizer. This means it's also PH balanced and completely safe to use as a top soil amendment. Just sprinkle around the edges of the container and using 6.5 ph unchlorinated water and your good to go for the entire grow. Npk coming in at a modest 3-4-4 I add silica by blue planet and kelp by blue planet organic nutrients once a week. As for flowering i will be using only Root Love and Espoma garden tone with a big bud for the first 4 weeks. And oh did I mention that espoma also has organic matter and the bacteria responsible for feeding the plant Cal-Mag as well. So no need to worry. Or if I given it too much nitrogen in flower using Cal-Mag. I really hope these products and my information as well as my grow experience really helps others learn how to grow and grow well. Happy growing guys and gals
Its finally time to flower these girls. They are all 10 weeks from seed. The ones called bush master were topped at the third node. Pinned down and allowed to grow out an additional two nodes, before they were topped again at the third. The gelato 3 bushmaster was the best of all to take to this technique. The other 3 plants under the name Mainline, are just that mainlined. They too were topped at the third node. Allowing the 2nd node to grow and be topped at the same time that the third node was topped at second time. All the while the very first node was left completely untouched. Giving it time to reach equal height as the rest. The gelato 1 and sunset 1 both took best to this technique. However the zikkitels was ahead of the pack from the start she has been a very light feeder as well. Her first feeding revealed she didn't take well to not even much nitrogen at all. As a new grower it is vital you not only know all the signs and signals of nutrient deficiencies, but the difference between mobile and none mobile nutrients. N-P-K and magnesium are the big 4 with N-P-K taking the lead. These 4 nutrients are stored in the oldest growth or lowest portion of the plants leaves. So knowing the deficiency and toxicity early on. If you examine your plants carefully you can keep them both hungry and healthy. This is crucial to producing the best buds. A happy cannabis plant is a hungry one and your bottom leaves should be. Just one shade darker than the rest of the plant which should be nice and green, but not too dark green with the top nodes a lighter green but never yellow.
The plants also got a healthy dose of seed sprout tea growth hormones and cytokines to stimulate both flower production and healthy root growth. I use an organic top soil amendment for the rest of the grow, Espoma Garden Tone 3-4-4 which is Ph balanced and contains bacteria to break down the.
N-P-K slowly. Each bacteria is responsible for digestion of each micro and macronutrients. The Espoma Garden tone also contains calcium and magnesium as well as sulfur, so that's covered in this one bag as well. We added earth worm castings to the mix. With a healthy happy does of Root Love by Earth Man's Living Soil. Which I had used 3 weeks ago to inoculate my soil composting bin. Placing a pan filled with rice and molasses in the bin. Over time the mycholrizal fungi and trichoderma bacteria blend. Began to slowly creep over the edges of the pan and begin to feed and breed. Using mycholrizal and trichoderma bacteria in this way as a fresh, dense, living team of healthy fungi and bacteria in this way. Ensures that every centimeter of the soil is one great big living soil. There is no better way to grow cannabis.
The plants were kept a temperature of 74°F. With a relative humidity of 55% with a humidifier from Amazon which has a humidistat to keep the RH in the correct range ( since its winter and in a custom grow room/barn. A dehumidifier is not necessary with the cold dry winter air) For CO2 we were using CO2 emitting soda bottle system. By putting 2 tablespoons of yeast into each 2 liter soda bottle. Which contains both CO2 and Nearly two cups of sugar for the yeast to digest and in turn create CO2. We now added in two mushroom CO2 emitting bags. All of this is in direct correlation with what the plants would find in Nature. The best cannabis plants are grown organically in my opinion. Put a cannabis plant in a open yard it will grow. Put that same plant in an opening in the deep woods with loads of fallen trees and dead undergrowth and the same plant will flourish. The yeast and mushrooms both replicate this same exact environment. Just without the risk of outdoor pests or that pesky shade man. No shade for these girls.
I'm really happy with the grow and I really hope that this grow and this information really helps you. There is no perfect way to growing. There are however many wrong ways to do things. In the garden and in life. So after learning from our mistakes we push on to brighter shores. On the voyage of life it's easier not to be wise and measure these things by your brains. So I will read to you hear ☝️ save your eyes 👀 you'll need them your boat 👇 is at sea 😴. Your anchor is up ☝️👽 you've been swept away and the greatest of teachers 🙏 won't hesitate...🤔 to leave you there by yourself chained to fate 😳 and the rest will fall into place.
This is of course the second week of flowering and things couldn't have been better. Believe it or not these girls have had two feedings in the last week.
The first was of course Espoma garden tone with blue planet organic pre flowering base high in phosphorus of course. The second was more of a lighter feeding of big bloom and buds fish and kelp pre flowering nutrients. We only ever use half the recommended amount as aforementioned and keeping a close eye on the lower, oldest growth. To see how much nutrients are in those leaves. Which remained a darker green below the rest which is as you can see very healthy. N-P-K and magnesium are mobile nutrients so detecting any deficiencies is fairly easy to keep your plant hungry. Which really works in your favor later in the grow. When your in late flower or at any point you would like to throw them some bud juice or something like this to increase resin production.
Also we added extra molasses and heavy, HEAVY doses of microbes and fungi from Earth Man's Living soil root love, recharge, stump tea, and my own homemade blend of mycholrizal fungi and trichoderma bacteria using rice and molasses. I mixed up in a pan that I placed into my compost bin for about three weeks. Until a giant, thick fuzzy ball was all you could see. Straying this into water and molasses through a screen. The soil and soil mites left from the Earth Worm Castings, really love this.
In case you didnt know, organic earthworm castings top brand on Amazon also contains living carnivorous soil mites. Which in winter it's not such a bad thing, but in summer it works out great as they feed on Thrips and spider mites.
Over all the grow has been a great project to undertake. I use two viparspectra PS 2500's and also added two deformable garage led lights. Which output 120 watts and use a neutral 6000k light spectrum. I suggest to everyone to research them yourselves and what a 6000k light spectrum is. The measurement is an old original measurement for a cool blue and warm red white light spectrum. 8000k is far blue and 3,400k is more red. Or more like the difference between HPS and Metal halide, literally these measurements are very old school. So for those who use HPS or metal halide bulbs will already be well acquainted with judgment between using a cool, a neutral, or warm white light spectrum. This experience will come in handy when looking to expand and ( quite literally ) contract when your grow tent or room is quickly running out of space and adequate light sources.
Too often growers end up not having enough roof space or space overall. Or more importantly want to add another plant, but can't afford another grow light. I have personally measured the PAR output coming from these two lights and from a distance of 18inch they output 850 PPFD. That's not bad at all for flowering and they are built in exactly the same way as a grow light. With internal driver and 1,200 aluminum radiator cooled LED lights. I just bought one on Amazon, which was a new brand that had the Samsung LM diodes. Since it was a new brand I got it for 50% off. On average a 120 watt light would cost upward of $35 with the discount. I got two lights for the price of one. Plus not only is the spectrum ideal but the lights themselves can be folded while operating. So you can drop that light into your canopy and fold up the LED panels. Like wings they fold up and output high PAR light in 360° and resting on a 90° right angle. Insuring. That every bud gets light from new sources they never had before. This will be sure to produce the best buds I've ever grown.
I hope this information helps you and as always happy growing guys.
This week was really great, to finally see the crowns begin to form. Again begin to form and as you can see each individual genetic is coming into ownit's own. Though all we flipped into flower equally. The gelato 3 is definitely ahead of the pack. With zikkitels 2 lagging behind as it was under a very warm white led grow light. Since then we have installed 3 cool white led lights.
These are the led garage lights which are designed exactly the same way as a regular led grow light. With the only exception being they are al white light at 6,500k this is a mildly cool led light. Cool meaning it's leaning slightly into the more blue part of the spectrum. However it is nearly completely white light which has every color in the visible spectrum; excluding of course uv and infrared. The two viparspectra PS 2,500's both have infrared but we are using a UV resin cure light at 380 nanometers to compensate for the lack of UV but only during flower.
I highly recommend the led garage lights they are very powerful and efficient PPFD at $20 each on Amazon on any given day. You can't beat them. Being the light is In the cool white 6,500k part of the spectrum you have two options to correct or alter the spectrum to your needs. The first is buying a set of 4 very cheap color spectrum correcting light filters. 1/2 cto will correct the spectrum to neutralize the blue light and make a more natural sunlight spectrum. Or you can buy a red monster outdoor colored light string as I have and dial the light spectrum in that way. Also it's worth mentioning that all white LED lights are actually high intensity blue light. But with a color correcting light filter, or yellow shader over the lens. Your most common house lights do this by surrounding the light with a frosted yellow coating. Either over the lens or around the bulb.
Lastly the most exciting part of this week was being able to make our first flowering compost tea blend. Combined espoma garden tone, wiggle worm organic worm castings and advanced nutrients big bud. The plants love it as we ph the water to 6.6 to give them a more comfortable ph. Making the uptake of potassium more readily available. Happy growing guys until next week. ☝️👽😳
This week was a very nice one to say the least. Looking at the plants now, the stretch is finally complete. The zkittles and gelato have stretched a whole bunch. Even though they were all 3, very short and bushy plants. This makes these ILGM sweet pack of seeds. Well paired together and a high yielder as well.
As we can see very clearly the girls are done with the stretch and also very green. So this week past, will be the final week they receive any nitrogen. Later in the coming two weeks they may get a bubbled organic compost tea. But only half strength, just enough to insure they have some nitrogen. However the greatest benefit will be the calcium and magnesium they will get. From the Espoma garden tone which also contains loads of micronutrients and bacteria responsible for digestion of the organic matter in the soil. Later in flower the plants us more than just potassium. They will begin to use more iron, zinc, and copper once the buds begin to fill out a bit more.
Lastly I will be attempting to keep a record in exact line with the photo line up you just saw. Giving a picture of not just one bud off the same plant. But also keeping a record of the very same bud as they begin to fill out. This will I think, be very helpful for others looking to buy the sweet mix from ILGM. Until then happy growing everybody.
This week was a wonderful sight to behold. Seeing how that each bud has finally begun to form brings tear to my eye. The Bushmaster has really stepped up as a true friend. Battling with the cold. Then the heat out of NOWHERE the rest fell into place. Thank goodness for ilgm. For the chance to enjoy true genetics. Each and every time we order. Never gotten a hermie. Never gotten a Male. Never been unhappy with the outcome.
Not much has changed from the last week as far as nutrients are concerned. They have only had two earth worm casting and espoma tea. That's it with big being the only exception to the organic rule of a brown thumb in the dirt. With big bud being the only bottle nutrient and flowering has taken place. It's vital that you start small and go up from there. Thanks to the bushmaster each measurement has been on point. If not you can actually get nutrient lock out. Some might say " from just potassium..? " nitrogen toxicity..?" Your joking right. But no it's TRUE N-P-K are mobile nutrients as aforementioned and when the lower leaves cells which store the NPK for later. Swell up with NOWHERE they can go. This causes nutrients to LOCK OUT. The first signs of which are browning leaf tips. Followed by the leaves no longer standing with the tips reaching for the light and begin to look more like claws. It's at this time it's vital you act and flush as much water into the pot as you can if this happens. Luckily this is not the case.
Hope this information is of help to anyone new to growing and as always happy growing friends.
The plants are doing great as you can see they are really starting to fill out. Beginning of week 6 and it's time to cut out the nutrients completely. So they begin to fade in the coming weeks and take on their colors. We are using a super soil mix. Which should take them through their final 3 weeks. These are all 8-9 week strains. So from here forward they will get one last double treatment of snow storm ultra as recommended and that will be it. They look beautiful and the Bushmaster is doing an excellent job caring for them. The night time temperature will go down by 15 degrees at night and the day time in the lower 70's should help density as well. As always happy growing friends
What's to say about this week but wow. The bushmaster has done it again. These plants are loving being brushed out and feel great now under cooler temperatures. During the night they are slowly creeping from 75 in the day to 60's at night and even in the 50's. Briefly in the early morning hours they might get that low. But oh boy what wonders it is working to bring out the colors. Also thickening up the buds, which have a natural defense against the cold and protect the seeds the only way they know how. By growing thick. To protect what would be seeds from the winter cold. Fortunately they do not have seeds, just a lot of tricomes and beautiful colors.
The over achiever of this bunch has to be the zikkitels number 1 bushmaster. Her pheno is taking on a shape all her own. Most likely from her fathers side of the gene pool. Which is not typical but, can happen. Her genetic sister on the other hand. Looks more like the catalog version of her former self. All sexy and turning a dark..and very bitter...GREEN; just before turning purple all over.
It can be a risky and stressful situation trying to get them to turn colors. Almost Immediately you wonder "how cold is too cold?" and "am I doing it right? "Will me heat go out over night?" All these questions and more race in your mind. However to any new growers out there in the northern hemisphere. I have to say and suggest we couldn't of chosen a better time to veg and more importantly flower our plants.
They begun life November 20th and were vegged for two months before flower. During this time only heat and humidifier were needed. Since the air was so cool and dry outside. The humidifier we chose, has a humidistat inside it. Keeping the humidity in check without raising it too high and of course the best part of all this is the timing. The timing of our final days of flowering have run right in line with spring. So they need no heat and almost no humidity. During flower they require only 40% R/H and lower temps at night but higher in the day is what spring is all about. So it's more like fall in reverse, if they were outside that is.
Lastly we have cut out all nutrients as of this week. They got their final dose of snow storm ultra which I promise is killer for giving more tricomes to plants with less than average amounts of trikes. So going into week 7 threw 9. They will get only water, pure rain water is the best way to go and an added bonus of growing in the winter. Your able to just let the ran fill up any container. Without worrying about pests or moldy mildew building up in your watering bin. Water that is bubbled with air stones for oxygenation and ph at 6.5 every time. As always happy growing friends.
Hello growers this week was a beautiful one. To find that all the plants are changing colors very nicely. This is all thanks to mother nature and the spring time shift. Being so much like fall temperatures. Next week is looking like it shall be the final week for the gelato 3 and two sunset strains for sure. Could be the other two gelato as well, we will see. The day time temps have been in 70's and low 60's at night and as low as 58°F. Just before lights on.
Another addition to help the color shift has been the UVA light. People say only UVB is viable, however this is not true. If you do the research such as studies from the university of Utah and Bruce Bugbee and his lab which is funded by NASA and the USDA. It's not so much the certain UV spectrum. Actually UVC and UVB are very dangerous and rarely found in nature
If they are it's only at high noon and honestly more common to burn your skin during the winter months. Around the first week of January when the earth itself in its ellipse is physically closer to the sun than in the summer. This is what makes the aticama desert of Australia so dangerous in the southern hemisphere. Another place to see the stars btw.
In studies from professor Bruce Bugbee's lab have shown. That the effectiveness of UV light really comes down to duration and the lack there of. Using LED lights that have UV in the spectrum are not effective. As the plants build up a tolerance early on in life. UVB and C are effective but in very small burst and very dangerous. UVA is readily available in LED light forms such as the 3D resin cure light I use only 2 hours a day. So in terms of cost and effectiveness I would highly recommend As always happy growing friends
This week was a fantastic one. The plants are doing great and the colors are coming in beautifully. Out of the three gelato seeds from ilgm. Gelato 3 is the only one that has not turned purple. However I am not complaining due to the size of her bud structure. Which extends deep beneath the canopy and scrog net.
The Clone and veg room are grossly overgrown. One gelato and one zikkitels have been planted from seed. The rest are clones and will have to come out of there soon. This will be week 9 of flowering. The gelato is a 10 week strain. However the zikkitels and sunset both are 8 weeks. Although the sunset is ready for harvest and turning purple and much more beautiful than ever expected. The two zikkitels are not even close yet. Even compared to the gelato plants.
One phenotype of the zikkitels as you can see from the bonus photos up close is really packing on the weight. She is huge and has outgrown every other phenotype in the room. Stretching longer and growing fatter by the day. However the other zikkitels phenotype, zikkitels 2 is nearly identical to the photos found on the ilgm website. I'm certainly not complaining. As the gelato 3 and two sunset sherbet are ready to harvest. So as a teaser I so dubiously placed a leaf over the chopped canopy of one of the sunset sherbet. So stay tuned for next week's update and as always happy growing friends.
Sunset sherbet grew as a very short plant. Perfect for a closet or secret grow. She didn't stretch to bad and the bud structure was magical. Becoming purple was a pleasant unexpected surprise.
Love the sunset sherbet and I gotta say between the two grow styles used in this grow. Both mainline and bushmaster, it takes very well to mainlining technique. Topping each branch starting at the third node. Topping it twice. The second node once and first one not at all, left 10 main branches. These ten were in veg for over 9 weeks from seed. Then one week before flower they were stripped of every node. All the way to the top leaving 3 nodes intact. Then she developed 3 more pack so tightly at the tip. Stretching just enough exposing all 6 nodes on those ten branches evenly spaced together made this sunset sherbet really pop.
The beauty speaks for itself. Unexpectedly she began to turn purple at the tops of the buds. Spiraling outward to perfection. She gives an uplifting buzz, energized and excited to grow more with my grow diaries friends. As always happy growing friends.
This week was very special. We had the harvest come in on the sunset sherbet but unfortunately as it turns out the gelato 3 was hermaphrodite. So we had to chop her down separate from everything else. To prevent the spread of seeds, or the potential for such.
The gelato and zikkitels turned out absolutely fantastic. The gelato grew up to be a very beautiful purple all over the plant. With tricomes like finely packed snow frosting all over. She smells like heaven, with her thin mints genetics clearly shining through her full body aroma. Out of the two growth techniques which did I prefer..? I have to say both are very effective for their application. The mainline produced a fairly tightly packed bud formation and likewise. Aided in maintaining an even canopy. With a central shaft of light down the middle. The bushmaster on the other hand produced equal effects. Also I noticed that by pulling the branches down in the very same manner. But allowing the nodes in between to grow out one additional note before typing each limb again as instructed previously. Produced a very very bushy plant then outstretched and out Groove the main line. On the other hand they actually produced about the same amount of buds. But the budget structure on the bushmaster plant was much longer and larger. This was also true of the zikkitels.
The Zkittles were Worlds Apart as far as their phenotype. The zikkitels 1 bushmaster what's the largest plant of all ilgm seeds. The zikkitels 2 mainline, was a very odd ball to say the least. She experienced nitrogen toxicity and began her life over growing the rest of the plants. since she did not take well to nitrogen we fed her half the amount of nutrients. My attempts to Main Line train her we're not welcomed by her phenotype. Although with all of this her bone structure actually turned out almost identical to the picture. However she was a late bloomer at turning purple, but the bright side of this is her bone structure although small is the most dense and sticky of all. I hope to see you all next week for the Harvest and as always happy growing friends.
The buds were truly like night and day. The two plants had completely different phenotypes of the same strain. One growing exactly described in the photo. The other was huge but, both are the most beautiful, delicious, fruity buds you have ever tasted.
Well the time has finally come to an end and new beginning. These two plants were great. I absolutely love the difference between the two phenotypes. The zikkitels 1 grew huge and large buds. She stretched to new heights above the rest. She was also a light feeder. Which didn't take much water and grew equal to the rest. Until flower that is. Then she took only more and more water as could be expected. But all in all her buds were fat, dense and hearty.
The smoke and smell is so wonderfully sweet and delicious. As soon as you crack open a jar it's like opening up a bag of candy. So this strain definitely lives up to it name sake. The buzz is uplifting an happy. Very energetic and exciting. Not to heavy so you can definitely go about your day and it's certainly not the type of high that you can not stand being in the heat of the day under the sun is fun with zikkitels
The zikkitels 2 on the other hand began her life with 4 fat leaves and an even bigger stalk. She wanted to just stretch and stretch over all the other plants. So she had to be pulled down two weeks prior to topping. It was at this time she showed signs of being sensitive to nitrogen. Her leaves were a very dark green and even after topping she just kinda sat in limbo for two weeks. With 6 nodes just sitting there. Not stretching out or anything. The only thing she did was grow a bigger stem. Then finally she started to grow once more. When she did it was a very very slow process. That is until flower. Like her sister she stretched out and when I say stretch she really went for the moon. Growing from a merger 18 inches above the pot to nearly 3 feet in just 3 weeks into flower. Her buds were almost identical ti the photos on the ilgm website. With the one exception that neither became completely purple. Both did however gain a purple hue but not extensive. Her buds were super dense. Infact the most dense buds of all the strains and yet they were quite small compared to the rest.
One thing I would definitely mention is that zikkitels from ilgm is a awesome awe inspiring strain to grow. With love she will love you back. Starting life with 3 nodes...3 limbs like most indica dominate strains do. Staying low for most of her veg life. But when it comes to flowering. Her sativa side kicks into overdrive. So I would insure that whatever height you desire. You must account for the fact she will definitely grow at least 1/3 her original size. If not double that depending of her phenotype. Lastly I would input that she is certainly not a 8 week strain as the website recommends. She is without a doubt a 10 week strain. Again depending on the phenotype. Because the zikkitels 1 really could of gone an extra week. Although her tricomes had reach perfection by week 10. But I would of adjusted the grow to 11 weeks in the future to bring her coloring into full bloom. Also the like is also very true of the next grow which will feature the zikkitels 1 as a mother plant clone and one new phenotype of the zikkitels strain. I started from seed and oddly enough she has hardly stretched at all. Which completely contradicts my previous statement entirely. Which I hope doesn't leave my viewers any less confident in my growing abilities. As I am honestly reporting my exact and accurate detailed findings. As always happy growing friends. And remember the 13th step philosophiae instaurationem magna. Stoic at heart and ataraxia is the best way to do this with love.
Well well done is done well. Great harvest on two very beautiful plants... I absolutely love this gelato strain. The coloring is amazing and the smell and taste both are like lemon ice cream. A very smooth creamy taste and smell. Followed by complete relaxation. Gelato by ilgm is definitely a sneak attack strain. At first smoke your like cool and smooth flavor really sucks you in. Followed by bouts of coughing and more coughing. Yet and still by the time the joint is gone your eyes sink low and your chill. Then the rest sneaks up on you with lead feet and a heavy hit later on than first expected. Next thing you know your telling yourself not to do that again lol.
As for the grow itself it was an incredible experience. Lots of love and experimentation when into the two plants and two grow styles. The gelato 1 was grown as a mainline plant. However I didn't cut any nodes off below the 3rd. I topped it at the third twice, at the second once and the first node not at all. This gave 10 mainlined branches. Which I forced to grow along bamboo. Giving them extra thick stalks. Which in combination with the old Kyle kushman chiropractic way of cracking the stem. As well as using the blue planet gold shield potassium silicate to produce very hearty stems. She stretched relatively mildly, about a third of her original height. The buds were remarkable as well. Trimming off all but the top 3 nodes two weeks before flower. Which in that time she then developed 3 new nodes to go along with the original 3. Thus 6 nodes stretched out evenly and the massive even bud structure and canopy you see there in the photos was born. Likewise the harvest did not disappoint.
Gelato 2 bushmaster. Was just that a bush masters dream come true. Especially since as a seedling she did not rise above the soil on her own. After all the rest came up, I had to dig her up. This lead to me having cut the tap root completely off. Leaving I mean a mere millimeter of root left. However her shell was already fallen off. So I expose her head to the light just above the surface and she pulled through. She did show signs early on that she was behind. Yet and still she was neck and neck with the rest if the plants and became second to only one other plant in this grow in height and bud development. Her buds stretch high as unlike the gelato 1 mainline. She was held down at the 3rd, 2nd, and 1st node. Until all limbs had grown outward up to the next 3 nodes before being topped at the 3rd once more at each limb. So I must hand it to the bushmaster for this outstanding grow technique. As I learned from experience if I had just stripped the gelato 1 mainline as just described earlier and then left her alone. Not exposing each node to light continuously over the course of the stretch as I did. She too would of definitely made better use of those 6 nodes and grown up to expose each bud sight on it's own.
Well that's all I have to share for this grow friends as always happy growing and tune in for the next grow. Where perhaps the bushmaster will reveal himself. Unless we all wear masks and the rest will fall into place. The grow diaries is a great place to share and learn from others. What I have to report is honesty under a veiled truth where only in the greatest of silence the truth is revealed. So if you have to ask you will never know and if you know then you need only ask. Until then...philosophiae instaurationem magna
Impressive training! I’ve been curious how ILGM zkittlez photo would turn out.. there’s plenty of autoflower examples on here, but not so much with the photo version. Also curious about the other two strains. Good luck!
@Ezzjaybruh,thank you so much and I am as well. Even when you search for ilgm zikkitels it isn't available so i am as well. I still have about a month left of veg planned. I can't wait for the results and the yield. Thanks for the love.
Ugh I need to get me some zskittles already. I started off with their SSH and Im trying my hardest to pick up tips from other growers like you. Looks gorgeous mate
@FlynnRyder, yeah I would definitely not strip all the way to the first node. However the frostyness of that sunset sherbet was due to how I mainlined and stripped up to the top 3 nodes. When you do this you have two options. One, you could flower Immediately and get however many limbs you have. That's how many single main colas you will have. Or alternatively and far more productive when it comes to yield and smoke. Leave only 3 nodes at the top and giving it two weeks on any plant. The plant will know it's potential for growth has been removed and thus greatly reduced, in case of emergency/animals feeding on it. So Immediately those nodes will be quickly recreated right at the top. Right where the light is.
Also you mentioned the phenotype differences well look at the difference between my gelato 1 and 2 compared to the gelato 3. The gelato 3 never gained any colors and honestly looked more like gorilla glue number 4. Likewise it became a hermaphrodite. Have any of yours become hermaphrodites from ilgm. Not saying it's all there fault. There is alot of speculation, but just like some frog species and fish. Male and female plants and animals can change sex in a single sex environment. Plants use pheromones to communicate which they send out and pick up on through their stomata. In a grow with 6 female's it's bound to happen. Generally speaking I would suggest that if a hermaphrodite is absolutely covered in bananas. It is a true genetic hermaphrodite. But one that has just a few, usually at the bud tip alone. Then it's one that became a hermaphrodite from a all female environment. They send our sperm/pollen to the top of the plant. Typically where the wind can carry it easily.
@michael_2r1, My goodness mate that was a lot haha. I actually love it though and I'm going to have to reread it another 500x to really get a grasp on it haha. I'm just such a kinetic learner that I have to screw something up multiple times to really get a grasp at it. training has been difficult in that aspect because I am terrible at planning ahead for a SCROG or the lighting distance required for a great flower. I'm still trying to really figure out where I am going wrong because I just don't feel the benefits of Hydro or LED. I'm certain the science is solid but I'm missing something small. I see a lot of training where it seems people are cutting all the way back to the first node but I'm gonna need a counselor before I can do that to my babies haha. Last harvest I had was my first and I botched it so bad it was a real kick in the marbles
@FlynnRyder, My biggest tip would have to be to try what I call the bush master approach. This is a process much like mainling, however you do not continually top each limb. Zikkitels will begin it's life like most hybrids of the indica dominate variety. With three nodes and 3 limbs before it puts out another 4th node in the opposite direction. I topped them all at the third node and pulled them down. But what I did with the zikkitels 1 was the bush master approach. By pulling down each limb with a piece of wire. Like that you would find in the wall outlet. Pulling them down then waiting for each limb to grow out two more nodes. Before topping each limb. All the way down to the very first node. Just keep all limbs and nodes exposed to as much light as possible. Then you will find she has become a bush in just 8 weeks. Preparing for flower for an additional 2 weeks is critical. I like to strip off all extra low fan leaves. As well as stripping all nodes from the bottom up to the top 4 nodes. This is two weeks before flower. However do not take off any larger fan leaves a third of the way up the plant. Even if some limbs or nodes are not quite exposed to light just yet. If you just let it do its thing. By tucking it under the net if needed or otherwise not at all. She will rise to the occasion and reach for the light during the stretching phase. Giving you very larger colas.
My harvest will be coming up soon. But I also have one clone and one more which I've planted from seed I'm about to feature in my next diary so stay tuned for that. Because if you have noticed they were all crammed into that small clone room for 9 weeks and given an additional week to grow and have now been in flower for a week. So progress has been made. Lol thanks for the love and happy growing friend.
@NugLife420, that's great to know. I've heard many different things on the flush. Some say flush double the container in water. Others like myself just flush normal water at every watering. I've found using this the last 2 weeks. Can often end at the 3rd week for some strains. As for my beauties. Well your exactly right. I have 3 strains and 6 plants. But the one sunset 2 has more trikes than any other. In part I believe due to the fact that I had supplemented light. Using a high powered cool white LED garage lights which is equivalent in power as the ps1500. The only draw back is the cool white/ extra blue in the spectrum. It didn't effect the size, as the other is very small as well. So if your in the market for a potent but very small plant. Ilgm sunset is the wave.
@michael_2r1, I flush the last week and a half to 2 weeks. I flush until I have about 20% run off from the pots. As for the trichomes, I just got lucky, super frosty genetics. So good genetics and TLC = great buds. 😃😎 Your ladies are looking fire though. 👍👍👍
@NugLife420, thanks man same to you. Also tell me what's your strategy for getting those tricomes to hang over like that and getting the best clean flush?
@michael_2r1, wow - I really appreciate the in depth reply. I’ve been confident that some bands of UV are helpful in flower, especially if you can get a dedicated light to hit it for a short chunk of the daily light cycle.. but I’ve never got this in depth and found what I can only assume is a fountain of useful info from this Bruce Bugbee fella. I really appreciate the tip.. I’ll dive down that YouTube rabbit hole in the morning! Thanks a bunch!
@Ezzjaybruh, I got a UVA resin cure LED light from Amazon for $30. They come in 20 and 6 watts. You can not unfortunately find any LEDS that can output a wide UVB spectrum, however the resin cure light does contain a small amount of UVB and a lot of UVA. I suggest you check out apogee instruments YouTube channel. On this channel you will find Bruce Bugbee professor of cannabis cultivation and NASA scientist. Who is funded by NASA and USDA to study the effects of different light spectrum on cannabis. The university of Utah is the only college in the country that has such licences to study cannabis growth.
There you will find a video where he shows his results for UV spectrum of light. It has been proven effective only in short bursts. UVB is effective in smaller bursts. But UVA is also effective in much longer bursts of 2 or 3 hours. Depending on how close to the light your plants are and will only be effective if you have never before exposed them to UV light.
The apogee instruments YouTube channel from the university of Utah is the best to get 100% proven evidence for growing the best cannabis. As it is clear cut unbiased information and no one is payed better to debunk the myths than him.
Also far red and blue light spectrum is a wonderful thing to check out on his channel as well. You can use blue light to create shorter bushy plants in veg. Then far deep red in flower to promote growth of flowers or make normally bushy plants taller. Blue light in flower in conjunction with UV increases terpenes and resin production as well as being 100% effective at killing small insects like thrips.
So I see you’re using the blue planet nutes, as far as going organic I was on the fence between using them or FOOP.. love to hear what you think about blue planet so far or if you’ve used it before with success.
Thanks!
@Ezzjaybruh, yes I have had great success with blue planet nutes and organic products along with it such as recharge for fungi and bacteria. Bacteria that will break down the food in a more ready and useable form found in another little known by cannabis growers but widely used Espoma plant tone for veg which is a 3-4-4 and rose tone for flower which is 2-4-5 both are completely organic which you can look online and unlike other organic sources for cannabis like big bloom and buds 3 step nutrients which are a blend of fish and kelp. Kelp is good by itself which I do use blue planet kelp. But the fish nute is high in ammonia which is incredibly acidic even when you add ph down it takes a lot to do this and do it right you really have to add it and let it sit for 15 minutes just to be sure since the fish ammonia is so acidic and fresh. The same is true of most synthetic substances like hydro nutes and even miracle grow if that's your things. Which is a OP nutrient 24-16-18 completely synthetic I don't use it. But the espoma brand organic is comparable only to gia green organic top dress amendments. Yes espoma is a top dress, however I have found the best application is to pour 1/3 cup into a gallon jug over night most will desolve and what doesn't desolve, or isn't water soluble. Will be broken down by the 6 bacteria in the espoma plant tone 3-4-4 that's even more bacteria than great white. Each type is responsible for breaking down each nutrient for the plants which are digested by the mycorrhizal fungi which is attached to the roots and form a symbiotic relationship with your plant. If your curious of fungi and bacteria and how each one works check out Earth man living soil on YouTube he breaks it down for you. But moving forward espoma actually has the bacteria in the amendment so its completely safe to use along the outside edge as a top dress, without messing with soil ph. Since it contains less than .2% ammonia nitrogen and is balanced to keep the bacteria and fungi alive. To do this the soil ph must be between 6.0 and 7.5 . So is organic better I personally think so especially since I've gotten into making my own mycorrhizal fungi and bacteria at home. The ability to do this is also on Earth man living soil on YouTube as well. So it's just my personal preference growing organic and I mean this is how nature truly feeds plant life in nature with the circle of life from the living to the dead. From worms to worm poop. To bacteria to fungi. Fungi to the roots to the plants to the air we breathe. So I would say yes go organic. But most of all just love your plants. Talk to them care about them and love them. Pay close attention to the big four mobile nutrients. Nitrogen phosphorus potassium and magnesium. Which btw espoma also contains calcium and magnesium so even that is done all in one. But with these 4 mobile nutrients being mobile, moving from old growth at the bottom to the top of the plants. You can see each day and early on if you examine them what exactly your plants need. So love your plants become deeply involved with them and get yourself a photo period and speed alot if time tracing her just the way you want and the rest will fall into place.
@HAPPY91, thank you so much I was looking at your purple kush by ilgm and it's hard to compete with such in depth photos of the plants progression. I too take a lot of photos but being my first diary I condensed all strains into one.
Ya don't sweat it about the weird baby clones. I have gone through a bunch of phenos for Super silver haze by ILGM and I'm not sure if they are even the same strain at this point haha. Im looking into the sweets mix pack though next after that last set you just checked out. I cant stand how frosty that sunset looks in the flowering weeks pics haha. ugh im so jelly.
