Ok, I was very patient with these buds and waited for about a 2-3 week cure. I dried them for a little over 6 days in paper grocery bags and then placed them in quart sized mason jars to cure. When needed I kept the lids off for a few hours at a time until the humidity stabilized under 65%. With the jars open, the best way to describe the smell is fruity, hazey, and a little bit of pine notes. I think I chopped this plant at her absolute peak. I’ve sampled the flowers a couple times now, and they have a nice earthy taste and are covered in trichomes. The high is very cerebral and uplifting and starts hitting hard a few puffs into a session. It’s a little couch locky on the tail end if you don’t partake of some more, but for me this is typical of a lot of sativa leaning strains. I expect the smell and flavor to improve over the next couple weeks of curing and I will continue to enjoy these flowers.

Reviews. Nutrient
First time using this lineup, but I will keep using it, as I like the results and it’s pretty basic.
If you have chlorine or chloramine in your water then don’t bother with Hydroguard if you run DWC. The bacteria will be killed off and you’ll end up with algae or root rot
This stuff sorted out my algae issues immediately and I will continue to use it in every grow.

For my first DWC grow I think this went relatively well. I’ve learned what not to do in terms of overdoing it with nutrients, particularly during flower. I will be more conservative and only top off with plain water during flower to avoid driving the EC too high, which leads to nutrient burn once the high phosphorous flower nutrients are in use. I was a little disappointed in the pheno of blue dream I got from this seed in terms of height and yield. She was super tall but didn’t produce the huge fat colas I’ve seen on a lot of other BD plants. There are surely better plants in my remaining two seeds of blue dream. Next grow will probably be Em-dog, also by HSO. Thanks for checking this diary out all the way to the end and hopefully it helps any of you aspiring DWC growers. I’ll be growing with this method from here on out because I think it is the easiest I’ve found.

For the big yields veg longer with this strain. You will want like 30 top before you flip the light.

@Gardenofweeden, you may be right, though this particular pheno didn’t have those big fat flowers like many other BD phenos I’ve seen. Looking at some of those other ones, 8 tops seemed like plenty. Ordinarily I would veg longer, but I needed the harvest to be done by a certain time in this case.

Good luck with DWC grow 😀 How is the water temperature? I want to try DWC next time too but I was reading that water temperature is the main issue (too high) and the roots will not grow and RIP.

@bcizzle, I change my buckets every 72 hours...............i never top up or adjust ppms or ph and i never exceed .5 EC

@grzesiekkuzniak, I think that is the biggest lesson I have learned with this DWC grow. I switched to a sterile approach and since then I’ve had things dialed in. I change my water every week and use UC Roots, and I swap buckets each week with a fresh, clean bucket. After that if you just track pH and ppm and top off accordingly, it’s a stupid simple way to grow and I’m never doing it another way.

@iLoveGoodWeed,,if u change water frequently you can have temps up to 25 C and nothing will rot and no hydroguard needed..................dwc is about keeping it clean and not let water oxidize too much ...................too cold aint good too btw..........💩

why do you tape the top of the bucket?
bcizzle
bcizzlecommented4 years ago
@grzesiekkuzniak, I also found some adhesive cable clips that I’m going to attach to my bucket lid so I can more effectively train my plant, while also being able to move the lid and plant from one bucket to another.

@grzesiekkuzniak, early on in the grow I fashioned a little cardboard disc to cover the clay pebbles and keep light out of the reservoir and I wrapped it in tin foil and taped it to the bucket. It’s super janky but it’s working. I found some 1/4” thick neoprene sheeting I’ll use next time that has an adhesive backing and I’ll cut to my specs. Should be much less ridiculous looking.
