Soil: Ocean Forest
Light level: 420 PPFD
Tent: Vivosun 24x48x60"
This is my first grow.
I put Fox Farm Ocean Forest into 3-Gallon Cloth pots. I created a hole almost the size of a solo cup and filled it with FoxFarm Light Warrior Seed Starter and planted my sprouted seeds. (I don't think I'll be doing this next time) I will do the transplant method.
The large cloth pots wick moisture very quickly. I water twice a day mildly with tap water PH'd to 6.3-6.5.
I started my light levels at 300 PPFD, on day 4 I turned it up to 420 PPFD and they seem to like it so far. I have a feeling they could take more. LIght is about 30" away and dimmed.
My tent is a 24x48x60" and I'm successfully keeping the temperature at 76-79degrees ON and 68-69 OFF with 65-70% RH.
Rotated Plants
Seedlings reacted very well to 420 PPFD. I turned the light up to 500PPFD on day 8. I plan to keep it at this setting till week 3 is over.
Seedlings also reacted well to 40% strength BigBloom. Raising amount to 50%
Maintaining 70% RH
Turned the fan speed to setting 2/10 and it dropped my temp 4 degrees right to the sweet spot while maintaining RH - Fuck yeah
Admission of guilt - I got antsy on day 3 and planted 3 more seeds in Solo Cups using Miracle Grow Seedling Mix. Direct soil method.
These seeds caught up to my 3-Gallon cloth pots with FoxFarm Ocean Forest in them.... Shit...
-Day 8 I also transplanted the late seed into solid 1 Gallon pots using 100% Miracle Grow Seedling Mix. We shall see.
-Day 9 FFOC is falling farther and farther behind. The MGrow plants are growing even tho I just transplanted them. Very healthy. I don't feel it a totally fair comparison, seeing how they are in different pots. Cloth vs Solid planters. I also now believe I was under watering the cloth pots. The bottom of my containers was a desert. I don't see how or why a tap root could grow in that. So! I did my first full watering of the FFOC cloth pots today. If they don't pick up I am considering transplant to new FFOC soil in solid pots.
-Day 10 Most of the plants are healthy. I gave the plants their first full seedling dose of BigBloom at 15ml/Gallon (1 TBSP/ Gallon). I have one plant that is far behind and yellowing. It was not watered one night (My wife told me not to overwater!) It was laying on its side when I got home. I watered and it perked right back up however I believe it was fatal. oopss
-Day 13 I yanked the small plant. It stopped growing.
-Day 14 All plants are thriving and growing daily. I turned the light up one setting and lowered the light 1". Unsure of PPFD atm
2/5 Ocean forest made a comeback and is now the best plant. The miracle grows plants are also growing very well except one that was overwatered but still growing. It's been five days since and it should be dry in the next day or two. The plastic pots are a lot easier to overwater than a cloth planter! Also worth mentioning I have one plant that is throwing five leaves one set early. The other 4 only have 3 leaves on that set.
2/6 Day16 - I drilled 12 holes in the side of the overwatered pot and aerated the soil with a pencil on the surface of the soil and through the holes.
Then placed in corner of the tent in about 350PPFD of light. This morning the cupped leaves on that plant are almost looking better The airiation may have worked.
-Fed plants with RO water with 2tbsp/Gallon Big Bloom PH'd to 6.3 and 3ml/Gallon of CalMag to around 350PPM UPDATE - Noticed small discoloration after watering next morning. Switched back to tap water... RO for Humidifier
2/8 Day 18 - I lowered the light to the recommended 24" for Veg. I also turned the light up from 550PPFD to 600PPFD. I think they will like it. I also burned my eyes. oof
2/11 Starting to see some markings on leaves. Fed 4/ml Gallon Grow big and 1TBSP/gallon BigBloom
2/19 Topped a couple of days ago. It's bushing out very well. Going to start training today. After starting to feed Nutrients the plants have turned a healthier green and are much happier. They are starting to smell. I have been going easy on removing large leaves. They seem to be good fall-back nutrients for the plants. Like a buffer
2/21 Feed day! I increased the GrowBig from 4ml to 6ml. According to the feed schedule, I am supposed to be at 15ml. So for the week, we are still at 40% Strength. Overall feeding 760ppm
I trying to lower my RH to 45-50% just anticipating flower mode. I couldn't do it. RH is staying high. I did some defoliation, dropped RH 4-5% but not enough.
BUT!! I believe I figured out my problem! Smart Pots (Cloth Pots) cause high humidity! Duh, only makes sense. So I plan to wrap the pots in plastic wrap to test my theory. stay tuned.
Things are going really smooth atm. I fed three times in a row and the girls loved it. Then I gave them a plain water day. Headed into Bloom cycle next week. Very excited.
3/9 Day 46 - Last day of veg.
Started to show CalMag Deficiencies. Increased to a full dosage at 5ml/Gallon
Also a slight Nutrient burn after feeding (1300ppm). The tap is at 300ppm. Could be a concern. Going to feed every other watering until things look better. The yellow tips were an indication I was close to over feeding after all.
Received a little tip burn from my last feeding (1300ppm) and have been feeding water only since (11 days). They are still reaching and growing rapidly. I've decided to back off the feedings to 950ppm and use my RO water to cut PPMs for the tap. It's high atm due to spring runoff. Also adjusted nutrient levels for a good ratio
I did a Day 20 Defoliation. I think I did a great job and didn't get too aggressive.
I fed them at a PH of 5.0 by accident. I tried to correct it by throwing an equal amount of PH7.0 afterward. Today 3/31 I believe I am seeing the results of that. But gotta put it behind me and try not to forget anymore.
I have a feeling I have an abundance of nutrients in my soil but I don't know how to test that, some burning of leaf tips has happened twice this grow. fairly minor though. I've fed them just water for up to ten days before with no sign of deficiencies. Recharge?
I started to throw 1 glass of water in the planters before feeding. I believe this technique worked very well. No burn at all this time with 850ppm.
The Plants are looking great, but there is little smell. Next feeding I will be cutting out GrowBig my Veg nute. Switching over to just Bloom Nutes! Exciting! I have no idea why people don't like FFarms.
I've turned my light up once again. I'm about 14" From Canopy and the light still has more power to go. I have at least 800PPFD at the main canopy and over 1250PPFD on top of some Colas! Once I get switched over to 100% Bloom nutes and they are available I will be cranking it. Bring on the Budz! I sure hope this strain proves itself.
Plants have a lot of Nitrogen in the system and getting ready to put away the GrowBig. Today is the second feeding this week. Today was 2 tsp TigerBloom, 2tsp Bembe and 1ml/Gallon CalMag at 950ppm. I fed one juice cup of RO water well before feed.
After Feeding I noticed what looks to be a Potassium Deficiency. Kinda makes being week four and the small feeding I did earlier in the week.
Things are swelling up nice this week. Orange Hairs are starting to appear on all the buds one by one. It's been a very enjoyable grow. The buds are super tight! The sugar level could be better but If I have a successful harvest I will be very grateful. Any larger sugar leaves on the bottom of plants are starting to wither. Feedings are at 1150-1200ppm. as often as I can get the pots to dry. I will be getting more fans for this very purpose.
I can't feed them if they are still wet. I was worried I had too many plants. But after defoliations and the plants stopping foliating I've wound up with a super solid canopy.
I was reading other FoxFarm Diaries and I believe I have been underfeeding even though I've been following the feeding schedule. Not enough ppm's in flower to just use the Trio- Schedule. This morning I fed at 1550ppm and the plants are showing no negative signs. The max you can achieve using just the trio and the schedule is around 1150ppm. I believe that I was right about having a potassium deficiency but didn't know what to do about it since I was maxing out the scheduled nutes.
Day 40 Flower - Feeding 300ppm of CalMag and RO/Tap Mix
