Having over-germinated 3 out of 5 seeds, I continue with 2 small seedlings.
Day 3: I switch to a 24hour lighting of the seedlings.
Day 4: I accidentally axe one with the lid of the humidity dome and I am now down to 1 Pineapple Express Auto, tough odds.
Day 5: I lower the lamp to 50cm.
Day 6: I decide to plant the seedling in an 11 litre pot at this stage as I see roots coming out of the side of the jiffy pot. Lamp height still at 50cm. 24 hour lights. (Will switch to daylight for the following 2 days due to travel).
@Jaindoh, Thanks! I'm now trying to LST on Day 2 of Week 6 as well, since the main plant was getting significantly higher than the lower tops. I don't know if it is too close to flowering, alas, this is where we are headed!
@dancingshrubbery, and you did it well! you increased your yield by a sizable amount.
Diverting vegetative growth into the other colas will really pay off.
Looking forward to seeing your results =)
@Jaindoh, hey bro, I think I can help with the curled leaves and burn.
Firstly, some phenotypes do this. It’s usually to do with too much light, but also not having the right balance of nutes for the plant to take advantage of the lights. The reason I say this is because you should be able to have your 600w LED 24 inches off the plant with no real issues. Just remember that raising or lowering the LED Just a few cm can drastically change the PPFM, so you really need to get a PAR meter and keep a diary. Also, depending on what brand LED you use, most companies focus their diodes towards the center so their PAR tests look powerful, but if you have a plant directly under it, it will burn. The leaves are also showing signs of nitrogen toxicity as you probably saw some yellowing and though more nitrogen would fix it? If I’m wrong, let me know, but nitrogen more than likely isn’t your issue. It’s CalMag and other small trace nutrients. If you use a full spec LED, then you are going to have to use more CalMag - from day 1. Almost 150%-200% more than normal. This will allow the plant to take advantage of the available photons, without it locking out nitrogen - you already have plenty of nitrogen, it just needs some CalMag so it can use it properly. This is the reason why so many people have issues with LEDs.
Just my opinion bro, without seeing everything you’ve done, it’s hard to tell exactly.
But it’s only a minor thing, so it won’t make much of a difference - you might just have to flush for a little longer.
@dancingshrubbery
The first 2-3 weeks after flower starts (in photos, and roughly in autos IME), until they have little "pom-poms", i call them... they get very rapid vegetative growth. In photos, the plants can double or more in size in that time period. that vigorous growth takes a lot of energy and nutrients. this can cause yellowing on new growth (iron) or older growth (nitrogen).
I don't actually see any of that, and had kind of assumed this was what you meant and that you had removed the leaves before photographing. Upon further inspection, I saw what you referred to.
Now, the twisted new growth and leaf tips are different. I can't immediately diagnose them, which is odd. They might just be wind burn or high temperature. I've seen pest diagnoses that looked similar, which is alarming. However, not having had those pests myself which ones aren't coming to mind.
This is where you get to the stage of making sure all your basics are right so you can rule out certain things. Whether that's heat spikes, humidity, pH of medium/feed, when it comes time to diagnose, knowing your basics are on point is key.
I don't see anything out of whack here but I'm not familiar with your nutrients either. Usually this is the guide I use to diagnose, I scrolled through it and nothing jumped out. You might be able to find something I missed, though.

@Jaindoh, am I in the stretch now? How long does it span? I only noticed one weird yellowing leaf by the very base, everything else looks splendid.
I see the tips of the very new leaves are curling around, those are the white tips you seen in the pictures. I have no idea why they do that, I initially thought it was light burn.
@dancingshrubbery, I wouldn't cut them right now. they are still providing the plant with the necessary energy. don't think their is much to worry about.
@dahoola, Thanks!
I'll try to follow the Biogrow feeding schedule, but I will definitely look out for any irregularities on the leaves.
Do you think I should chop off the light-burnt bottom leaves?
They appear to have survived the heat wave fine. Look for their leaves to lose fingers to determine stress, and if you need to raise the lights when it's hot.
You've still got time for smell during the main resin phases of flowering, the closer you get it to 24c 45% with good airflow the better.
They're looking quite well! If you can get the heat under control somehow, that will really impact your final quality. That said, I've grown multiple harvests during heatwaves -- it's always a pain, but it can be managed.
@Jaindoh, Thanks for the reply. It was all the way up to 29.5c at the peak during the day. I'll see if I can at least reach the temperature as outside the tent.
First grows are scary, but exciting! Liked and followed!
Your girls are looking good! Don't worry about defoliation until they have more leaves. Even then... while lower, particularly damaged, large leaves will be sucking more energy and water than they're worth... prioritize those fan leaves shading other growth nodes. Those are the real pissers.
You can also tuck them down out of the way, which is a lot of work, or ponytail them with a pipe cleaner for 12-16 hours a day (which will also slow the cola you're ponytailing, even the main cola, which is extremely useful).
Let us know if you have any more questions =)
@dancingshrubbery, nothing much to worry about, if you can increase the humidity that would be ok. Moving the light a bit is ok too until they get some more foliage
@bobo420, Really? I fear for the yellowish colour on the leaves. I think I might have burned it with the lamp.
It is a no-name 600w LED lamp, probably from China (I got it used). I'm trying to equip myself with patience though, and just mist the seedling a bit every day.
@Donwea, hey, thanks! I couldn't quite find a large enough amount of amber trichomes. Other than that, I don't really know, could be the light being inferior.
Nice work bro, she looks good. I’m surprised it took 14 weeks though, seems like a really long time for an PE auto. Mine are usually done in under 8-10 weeks from seed. I think if you have too much nitrogen, the plants know they have to flower, but also keep vegging, so you get lots of dark green sugar leaves, then eventually your calex sites foxtail, then bananas form on the ends where new pistols form. Good call to chop it now. You might need an extra few weeks of cure, but over all it will be a great smoke. Only problem I have is that you have your smell as weak. Is this just the ambient smell, or from touching the flower and running your fingers? My Pineapple Express Auto’s have always had a strong Dettol smell (hospital pine disinfectant) and then developed into a Pineapple chocolate smell once the trikes turn cloudy/amber.
@JasbadSirron, Thanks for all the comments Jasbad! The weak smell is ambient, if I rub or just closely sniff out the bud, it has a very vivid citrus smell. But it is not as apparent as the stuff I can buy. I blame the heatwave.
Good to see the lockout recovery!
I'd be squeamish about nutes, ymmv but personally I overfed like hell when I was new and in soil. Soil holds on to a lot, you could probably clear out the salts and excess with water then get a couple of good feed weeks in before flushing. At this point, I'd advise starting flushing earlier than later as well.
@bobo420, thank you! Already having made mistakes is quite disheartening. But I hope the last pineapple will flourish :)
I look forward to comparing my grow to other grows of a similar seed. I see there is a big difference on what growers perceive as Week 1.
On day 6 I notice what I expect is a slight light burn on some new top leaves. I noticed the lamp was down to 46cm above the plant, so I have raised it to 52cm.
I also did a nute watering with the specified ratio. I watered with approximately 1.5 liters.
@dancingshrubbery,hey mate, great diary.
I saw a question regarding the twisted new leaves. I get this in certain strains when they are subject to too many photons - as in your light was a little too close. Best bet is to not overreact and just move the lights up 2 inches. See if the plant reacts positively to it. Realistically, for an auto, you really need to have this dialled in before flowering starts - but again with autos, that’s not exactly easy.
I’d personally also plant the seeds directly into the pot you’re gonna finish in. Every day counts with Autos, so popping in a wet paper towel, then transplanting to starter pots (which are terrible for cannabis - use rock wool), then transplanting into actual pots, just takes a week of growth off your plant.
Autos literally count the dark periods, so if you don’t maximise each day, including the very first day when you pop, you are just wasting time and you will end up stressing it out and getting bananas.
In saying that, your plant looks bloody awesome, albeit a little nitrogen toxic in those top sugar leaves.
Keep it up bro, I can’t wait to see it all finished. I’m doing a Pineapple Express Auto now and it’s a strong genetic and a nice mellow high. Good luck!
Cheers. Jas.
