We have lift-off! Started seeds in Rapid Rooter in the coir. Both seeds just began to poke their heads out after roughly 48 hours. Softly nestled the cube into a small hole, made sure area was wet. Kept the grow lights at this time strictly on the VEG spectrum at approximately 20 inches.
pH levels: 5.95
Distance to Light: 20"
Spectrum: VEG
Please note: These early photos do have the LED light on, towards their later growth I began taking each plant out and getting pictures in normal light as I had to water them outside of the tent. So, not many more icky light photos, just the beginning weeks, pinky swear! 😜
This is where the waiting game just begins to take place. Keeping coir moist, not overdoing it. Began to introduce the micro nutrients, FloraMicro. Just a 1/4 tsp per gal. Veg lights are on 24/7 for this grow, will test an 18/6 period for the next set of autoflowers.

Starting to look good. I will begin the low stress training next week. The next weeks coming up will have many more pictures. I will begin the saturating process of the coir starting next week now that the root system should be large enough. I also will get in the practice of 20-30% runoff out the bottom of each 5 gal. Using this fertigation method will allow me to keep the nutrients in check in the coir and the pH levels happy without causing any lockout due to salt build-up.
Nothing too exciting this week with the exception of the LST session. I will be adding more pipe cleaners as well as galvanized garden stakes. The plan is to only make additions of subtractions once per week as to not stress the autoflower.
Pretty much the same as the week before. Added a new set of pipe cleaners and they continue to grow bushy and pretty. Sorry for the slow picture week folks, it was hectic this week. More to come! Dropped humidity to 50%.
Flowering is just over the horizon on these ladies. I did make a mistake and let the nitrogen get a wee bit too low, so I did bump that up. Next week I hope to at least get a peeksie at some flowers beginning. You can see how the LST is helping the plant shape up. Not too bad for a rookie I hope.
Began adding the FloraBloom to the mix. I am basically running tap water, adding the nutrients one at a time, shaking like Elvis a bit, and pH'ing the water to 5.95 after it sits about 45 minutes. From there I take a monotub with a milk-crate inside, I run 1.5 gallons of the solution through per 5 gal pot, let it drain out for roughly 10 minutes and back in the tent she goes. I have each 5 gal pot sitting on a piece of wood (this will change to a milk crate in the future). This allows me to take the monotub filled with the runoff water and discard. So far, this has always ensured me a good oxygen flow to the roots and plenty of liquid goes through the entirely soak the medium with 20-30$ running off. Still doing a bit of LST, but I will begin to remove all remaining pipe cleaners next week since the girls are doing their flowery thing.
The growth is going crazy. More bud sites, flowers popping up - still very young and has a long way to go! All of the LST contraptions that were on the girls have now been removed. It's like getting your children's braces removed without the bankruptcy filing.
Leaves are definitely thinning out a bit, I believe this is the strain naturally showing its hybrid style. The stalk is pretty mighty. I do not do any defoliation or trimming until the plant has had more time to mature and only then even if absolutely necessary for an autoflower.
Upped the FloraBloom and lowered the FloraMicro. Keeping the CalMag the same and lowering FloraGro to miniscule levels. The colas are really shaping up nicely and coming in. They have a good weight to them but the branches are sturdy. These girls look like they are going to produce something nice.
The girls are definitely filling out. The structure of the cola is getting heavier, the plant is getting sticky to the touch and it is beginning to smell amazing. The genetics on these Barneys Farm Purple Punch auto seeds are spot on so far in regards to how identical the plants are. They are near mirrors of each other which is nice. It will make it easier come harvest time. That is the goal. Til next week my good tokers!
Update 2/9 - Added a few more photos detailing some of the bud structures and the trunk/branches and hopefully I did an ok job with the low stress training. The girls are getting thirstier and it is very noticeable. I am still running the same amount of solution each time through them, and judging by the weight of the pot, you can definitely tell when they need more. I am happy with the low amount of FloraGro in this stage. I believe they are as tall as they will get. I will get exact measurements and pictures with measuring tape during Saturdays end of week update for week 11. I will be lowering the FloraMicro, and FloraBloom starting next week.
Significant drop in watering nutrients this week. Dropped the FloraGro entirely, significantly decreased the Micro and just dropped the bloom by 1 tsp/gal. - I am beginning the process of lowering their nutrients (especially nitrogen) during this period and will slowly let the leaves naturally yellow as the flowering finishes. Since I water every other day, over the next couple weeks I will be removing them from nutrients prior to their flush, which for this coir grow here will be over 3 waterings, or 5-6 days, and will make sure to give one more clean tap water pH'd out watering the night before harvest. But judging by these girls, I still have about 2, maybe 3 weeks to go. I don't know, they may surprise me and go all mature fast over the next 2! We will wait and see. Any advice, tips, comments, critiques are welcome my fellow growers! Stay terpy! 👽
The colas had a huge fattening party over the week. Getting very close now. Dropped all nutrients except the Bloom nutrient as I wanted to remove Nitrogen from the equation at this time. I am expecting the plants to give into some fade over the next week and the trichomes to be in the range I am looking for (10% amber, rest milky). Once they hit that, I will begin 2-3 watering flush (zero nutes, pH'd tap) and give them dark for 36 hours prior to harvest. Started using the flash on the camera, imagine that! You should see a big change brightness of the pictures and the difference between the previous weeks photos. If it is overkill, I can definitely try to get some better shots for you fine people.
Edit 2/28/21 - Added more bud and cola pictures sans flash. Hopefully you can see the chunkiness a bit better. I plan on starting my 36 hours of darkness for the plants next week. They are currently being flushed, straight tap water, pH'd out to 5.95 - no nutes. I will get pics of that and the harvesting process for next weeks update. The smell is fantastic.
Ok, so a lot has happened in the past week or so. This week was chop week! So here is how it went.
1. Slowly decreased nutrients as shown in journal leading up to the flush. This allowed me to give the plant 4 full watering sessions (0 nutes, pH'd to 5.9) over a week to help remove excess nutrients from the coir and allow the plant to do it's thing once the nitrogen and all movable nutes have started their way from the coir. The excess runoff did become more and more clear throughout the waterings and the PPM's came down significantly as expected.
2. At their last watering I did give them 48 hours uninterrupted darkness in the tent. I know this theory is very speculative, but I figured I would give it a whirl. I did not notice too much of change on their appearance or trichome coverage from the 48 hours, however that doesn't mean any other internal magic wasn't going on in the plant and/or resinous coverage unseen. The next run of these I will do without and while that is some back alley science way of doing it - at least it will be a start on the journey.
3. Hair cut! I measured both plants, nearly identical - 31" wide by 22-24" tall from the base of plant. I proceeded to trim all of the fan leaves off, typically aiming to leave any sugar leaves on. The colas turned out pretty good for a first time. Nice separation between them. More yellowing on the lower plants as expected due to less light penetration and from the nitrogen leaving during the last few weeks and the yellowing starts bottom to top.
4. Harvest to dry. I thanked my plants for the adventure and their flowers and then clipped them at the base. I hung the entire plants upside down by a hanger in the Spider Farmer tent. I will keep them in there, no light at all, at a temperature of 70-75 degrees F, and a humidity of 58-62% with an oscillating fan at the bottom, not pointed at the plants above! I will check on them in about 5-7 days but expect a bit longer as I am drying them as an entire plant.
Next weeks update - Harvest and Yield!
Overall this was a pretty easy grow for a nooblet like myself. I did do a lot of research and made some mistakes along the way, but hey, that is how you get better. I am already working on a grow for Barney's Farm Runtz Muffin, and these are photoperiods so it will be a different mountain to conquer. In about 3 weeks I will be able to start testing out some of this deliciousness and will report back with a more in depth flavor/aroma/effect profile.
Update 4/6 - Still curing. The fresh funk smell has faded and just waiting for the yummy smell to appear again. Been about 4 weeks now sitting right around 55-65%, burping once a day but decreased to once every few days on the 3rd and 4th week.
