Ok, so a lot has happened in the past week or so. This week was chop week! So here is how it went.
1. Slowly decreased nutrients as shown in journal leading up to the flush. This allowed me to give the plant 4 full watering sessions (0 nutes, pH'd to 5.9) over a week to help remove excess nutrients from the coir and allow the plant to do it's thing once the nitrogen and all movable nutes have started their way from the coir. The excess runoff did become more and more clear throughout the waterings and the PPM's came down significantly as expected.
2. At their last watering I did give them 48 hours uninterrupted darkness in the tent. I know this theory is very speculative, but I figured I would give it a whirl. I did not notice too much of change on their appearance or trichome coverage from the 48 hours, however that doesn't mean any other internal magic wasn't going on in the plant and/or resinous coverage unseen. The next run of these I will do without and while that is some back alley science way of doing it - at least it will be a start on the journey.
3. Hair cut! I measured both plants, nearly identical - 31" wide by 22-24" tall from the base of plant. I proceeded to trim all of the fan leaves off, typically aiming to leave any sugar leaves on. The colas turned out pretty good for a first time. Nice separation between them. More yellowing on the lower plants as expected due to less light penetration and from the nitrogen leaving during the last few weeks and the yellowing starts bottom to top.
4. Harvest to dry. I thanked my plants for the adventure and their flowers and then clipped them at the base. I hung the entire plants upside down by a hanger in the Spider Farmer tent. I will keep them in there, no light at all, at a temperature of 70-75 degrees F, and a humidity of 58-62% with an oscillating fan at the bottom, not pointed at the plants above! I will check on them in about 5-7 days but expect a bit longer as I am drying them as an entire plant.
Next weeks update - Harvest and Yield!
@Ferenc, Thanks man! It is my first - mind you I went a little bit overboard with research and planning - but I learned a metric ton of new things already that I am going to change and improve upon for the next grow! Next time will be non autos for sure. Have a great day!
