Week one went well. I germinated by putting them in a cup of water for 24 hours and then a wet paper towel for 24 hours. One seed died after planting due to it somehow getting upside down and the root drying out. Oh well. Humidity is also fluctuating a lot due to me only using a mist bottle right now. Using a 2'x2'x4' tent and a 300W Weico full spectrum LED light. I have 2 fans for now, both 6", one for intake and one for exhaust. Growing in an organic potting soil.

Week 2 the growth was okay, but I think I had a slight calcium deficiency. I flushed the soil with a small nutrient mix to help compensate and I think the plants appreciated it. No signs so far on the new leaves. I also introduced a humidifier near the intake fan and the humidity levels are much better. I began to germinate another seed after the one died, but it doesn't seem to be takin off well. Update: After asking my first question and getting some answers, I'm going to refrain from watering as much, and do my best to keep the temperatures as consistent as possible. I also moved the plants closer to the intake fan to get them more of a breeze. I might need to introduce an oscillating fan into the tent. Update 2: After getting more answers, I'm really thinking my issue is soil drainage/overwatering. I have watered in multiple days and the soil is very moist to the very top. However, The roots are coming out of the bottom of these pots so coming into week 3 I will be transplanting them into smart pots and adding perlite to the potting mix to help with better aeration. I also moved the light up another foot from the plants as suggested, so it is now sitting at 30" from the canopy of the plants.

As you can see in the pictures of my diary, the first leaves to grow out are crinkling and curling down. There was some spotting so I thought that this was due to a calcium deficiency but a second opinion would be great. Spotting could be from burn spots from misting water too.

When the the serrated edges of marijuana leaves curls or tipped up like that, it's often a sign of temperature stress, over watering/root problems or extreme humidity levels. When the problem is low humidity, the leaf will also often fold in the middle, like a taco. What's your temperature in your grow area? Is there a hot spot around these plants from the grow light? If this is happening to the plants which are closest to your grow light, that's a hint that the problem may be temperature related. If your light is simply too close, you can move the bulb further away from these plants and this issue may resolve itself. However, these leaves are showing symptoms of heat stress, without light stress (burning / spotting), so it's more likely that the light is a good distance away and the heat just isn't being controlled properly. If plants are also droopy, it's likely you're dealing with watering or root problems. Good ventilation and an exhaust fan will go a long way towards preventing all these problems. If the whole grow area is too hot with stagnant air, you will want to consider venting out all that extra heat. Having good air movement, like a small fan in your grow tent blowing over the tops of your plants, can help prevent hot spots from forming directly under your grow lights. In general, if it's too hot for you to be comfortable, it's too hot for your plants

Plant 1: Left Plant 2: Right Beginning of week three, I decided to transplant them. Roots were sticking out of the bottom of their original pots and I was curious to dig around a little and see if I couldn't solve any issues. There was definitely root problems developing. The soil had become compact, almost clay-like, and retained way too much moisture and suffocated many roots. I found a lot of them dead in the more dense areas. I mixed a good amount of perlite and vermiculite into the soil in the new pots to help fix this problem. They're also smart pots as well so the fabric lining will help with aeration. Hope this doesn't shock them too much. I also got a small whiff off of one of them while transplanting, maybe I'm crazy but I don't know where else it would've came from. Update: Plants are still growing but #2 is definitely suffering from root rot still. :( The yellowing of the leaves showed up out of nowhere and I don't believe it's due to any deficiency or pH issues. Did some surgery and cut off the rotten roots with sterilized scissors and replaced the soil in the region the roots were in. I also added in a bit more vermiculite and perlite. Hopefully she stays alive and can recover! If anyone has any second opinions, please feel free to help out!

Week 4 is good and bad. Plant 2 still seems to be struggling to recover from shock. It's starting to get some new growth finally but I'm thinking about cutting out the yellowed leaves. Plant 1 is looking healthy and starting to grow faster. I only fed plant 1 as well because I'm scared to burn/stress plant 2 any more. I'm hoping to FIM it within the next week and let it veg for another week or two. I planned to top plant 2 to see the difference in results but I don't know if it'll be ready in time. I may just let it grow naturally, I should be happy that it's even alive! Update: FIMed plant 1 on 4/28, hoping this goes well and I get a few new tops growing. Plant 2 is starting to look much better, happy she's staying resilient.

Not much to say. I started tying down plant 1 and cut off a couple fan leaves to allow the light through and the lower nodes are starting to shoot up! Pretty east training technique. Plant 2 is doing much better but still has some yellow stripes in newer growth.

Again, not much to say about this week. I just let them be to grow and they did just that. Lst has to be the best and easiest training technique you could do. I don't know how much the FIMing helped but I think next grow I'll try topping instead. Kicking into flower on the 14th with 24 hours of darkness going into 12-12. Wish they could get bigger but I gotta get em done in a timeframe.

Think she's gonna recover. Vegging plants are pretty hearty. First grows are scary, let us know if you have any other questions =) Liked and followed!

@Jaindoh, thank you! I'll give it some more time to recover

@ballzzz420,I'd wait until it has resumed rapid growth before beginning pruning as normal =)

@Jaindoh, appreciate it a ton! Do you think I should cut off the yellowed leaves? I read to not cut them unless they are at least 70% dead but I feel like they don't have any use..

Perhaps some root problems? I've seen plants that are overwatered droop but also underwatered, I know the Fox Farm brand carries a few nute/supplements that can give your plant a general boost "kelp me kelp you" and also some that can flush away any sodium buildup around the roots " bush doctor Boomerang" I've also read that wind burn can cause irritations like what you've described. Are any of your leaves reddish or purple or is that just your lighting?

@Experimentgreen, it was definitely the roots! Really appreciate it, there could've been other factors but I found a ton of dead roots when transplanting and they couldn't grow cause of compacted soil. :/ See my new week 3 post about it. And I waited to reply cause I wanted to double check, but the none of the leaves are actually purple or red, but the stems out to my biggest leaves have a reddish tint in normal lighting. Hope that's not bad..

Hey sage I was looking at your grow and you had said you had rotten roots...but it looks like you're using fabric grow bags? Aren't those supposed to air prune your roots to avoid rot and other root problems? Yikes if so you should give some negative feedback on those bags. Or up the air flow in the room if you don't have a few fans and such blow g things around in there. I'm so glad you found out the problem, I really hope it gets better, try the boomerang if you get a chance. Maybe it'll help get things heAlthy again. Happy growing!

@Experimentgreen I had the rotten root issue due to the bad plastic pots (check out week 2 pictures). The fabric ones seem to be a huge improvement! But I did add another fan inside the tent to improve airflow.

Oh also seedlings need very little in the first couple weeks, both nutrient and watering wise. My mama happened to keep watering a little seedling like it was a full grown plant and Whoowee did the over water make it sag and droop and just the most pitiful looking plant. Lol
