Jamaican Lambsbread Summer outdoor 2021

Both seeds germinated nicely. The grow room is up and running and the lights and temperature are in spec, but the humidity is low. I ran out of wicks for my humidifier and I put an order in... still waiting for them to be delivered.

Got the RH up to 55% after the plants suffered through 21 when my humidifier was missing the wick... I've transplanted one into a bigger pot and the other isn't too far behind. This week I'll start nutrients and soon it will be time for topping, training and cloning :) Stay tuned.

These plants are growing nicely, in spite of some leaf damage in the early nodes. Took longer than I thought to sort out the RH in the room. Also, I'm not sure if the soil is a good choice for these. I'm not too worried though because they are going outside in a few short weeks... and that's when things get easy :-) I topped the plants this week and cloned the growth tips. It's always fun to see which clones will take and which will not. My success rate is not high... but I don't put much energy into it. I already have more plants than I can handle. I'll start nutrients next week.

The plants are topped and mainlined now. There are just a few weeks left before they go outdoors! So exciting. It can't be too soon because the roots are already looking for more space.

In the dirt now. Taking a bit of a risk, because there is snow in the forecast. I'm gonna have to get the plastic on the grow house.

The moment we have all been waiting for... the summer outdoor flowering photos... enjoy :) Started the season off with a difficult start... I put them outdoors while the says were still too short. The plants all started to follower, but then as the solstice approached they all converted back into veg and grew like crazy. I was sure my entire grow was fukd... Now we are well into August which is solid flowering for Ontario growers in zone 5.

The garden is growing well. The Jamaican Lambsbread is looking good. She's super healthy with buds breaking out... looking forward to watching this one ripen up. I'm betting on heavy fat colas.

This variety is looking beautiful and healthy. I have two plants growing and they are both coming alone nicely. The buds are maturing at a good pace. They are not vulnerable to powdery mildew the way the Purple Kush and White Russian plants are... I can see the flowers are compact and tight. The colas are shaping up nicely. I've done a bit of defoliation and clean up around the base of the plants, but aside from that they don't need maintenance at all... compared with the other varieties in the garden these are just so easy to grow.

Nothing super interesting to report here.... these ladies are growing nicely and flowers are filling out. Both plants are super healthy, but the plant that's next to the White Russian plant is coming down with a minor case of powdery mildew. I'm not concerned about that *yet* but we will keep an eye on it.

These two plants are ripening up nicely. They are resisting the powdery mildew... but just barely. The fat colas are starting to get top-heavy. I like the way the buds are turning frosty.

The weather this week was challenging. We saw monsoon style rains that filled up the top colas with water, soaked the plants woody stems and bent the entire plant over into the dirt. I guess this is a sign that the colas are ripe and too heavy for the branches. Harvest time soon.

Not a lot of grow photos this week since we were camping two days' into the backwoods at Temagemi this week :) I have added a video garden tours so you can see what's up this week. The fight against powdery mildew is real. But harvest time is here just in the nick of time!

I started this plant indoors in March. I hardened them off and put them outside in late April under a plastic shelter to protect them from the cold. The thing I didn't account for was the fact that in April the days are still very short in Ontario. The result was that the plants went into flowering!! I had no idea that it could happen, and it took me a while to figure out the source of the problem. They were hardened off and brought out of 18 hrs of light, and put into the garden when the days were still too short. They tolerated the cold, and even a dusting of snow... but there just wasn't enough sunlight. So by mid May the plants in my garden were all flowering! I was so disappointed, and I thought my grow was going to be a total write off. You'll notice I missed a few weeks in this diary during this period because I was sure the grow was done for. Rather than rip the plants out, I decided to just sit back and watch to see what would happen. And then, as the days got longer the plants went back into veg... by the time the summer solstice rolled in, the plants were starting to shoot up new growth... but the leaves were all single blades until they started to stretch for flowering. This is when I started the photo diary back up. This variety grew very nicely in Ontario summer climate (Zone 5). She resisted the powdery mildew epidemic that my garden suffered this season. She was mainlined and her structure supported the weight of 8 top colas very well. The plants were not tall... compared to the other varieties I grew, but they were bushy with fat flowers ALL over. The yield is pretty crazy... stay tuned for the smoke report.
