o.k. so exactly 1 week from popping the seeds they were ready for the system.
i premixed and balanced the nutrient the solution the day before to allow the water to warm up. Unfortunately didn't take any pics of the seedlings before i transplanted them. 3 appear to be quite vigorous and the other 2 weren't far behind. It was a coin flip between the last 2 for the final spot in system.
In addition to the floraduo A&B i added some amino acids, great white, and my homemade version of hydroguard. I mix my own using Dr. Marijanes pro-biotic powder which has the same main active ingredients as hydroguard along with 2 other bacteria. It's pennies on the dollar and should be just as good.
A little about me and my setup. My first grow I kind of winged it and worked the kinks out after 15 years away from growing any herb. It was my first time ever growing hydroponically despite a decade of experience in the distant past. I knew it would be a bit of a shit show, and it was. Although the yield was respectable(15.9 oz off 3 plants in a 4X4) and the quality was excellent. But this time I'm going to document things as I go. I'm really excited to see just what can be done with good genetics and a good set up.
My tent is a cheapy from amazon. GA is the brand. It's a great tent for the price actually. They are sitting under two mars SP 3000's both dimmed to 30% (so about 180W total) at 24" above the bucket tops (which is actually a couple inches higher then the seedlings themselves currently)
Ventilation wise I am running a 6" exhaust and 4" intake both with charcoal scrubbers. The speed control for the fans are daisy chained together to ensure i maintain negative pressure.
System wise, I am basically running a DIY under current style system with a chiller. I made 2 improvements to the system for the 2nd run. One was I added a second air pump and a 2nd set of stones to the buckets and run them concurrently for redundancy in case one pump fails. I also added a top up resevoir.
Going forward I plan on creating a mini rdwc system using 5 gallon buckets in another tent to get a head start on the vegging and training. Since it will only run for a few weeks at a time I think I will to try to run it sterile using a UC Roots hack using pool shock as the ingredient. Hopefully avoiding the expense of a chiller. (plus save on UC roots for pennies on the dollar)
