Day and night temperature/RH difference

whoawhoa
whoawhoastarted grow question 5 years ago
Just before lights going on again, the temperature was at 21.4 Celsius, but humidity was at 76%!!! During day temps are 26 Celsius and 58~64% humidity. What is the optimal day-night temp/rh difference and how could I achieve that? Also, what are the risks with my current numbers?

Your RH will fluctuate with temperature even without adding water to the atmosphere. Warmer air is able to hold more moisture than cold air; therefore when your temps drop at night the humidity goes up. 76% is definitely on the high side but not a problem yet for your plants while they’re still young. I recommend you get a exhaust fan and either run it constantly, on a timer, or on a humidity controller set to keep things in the 45-60% range. 50% or less during flower.

hey there, you're right to pay attention to the relationship between temperature and humidity, actually those two things are the only things that determine growth rate. The good news is that you have nothing to worry about. You can still improve your environmental conditions actually , though. to reach optimal you need optimal VPD, vapor pressure deficit, which regulates the opening of the stomatas as well as a bunch of other stuff. at this stage the optimal humidity for you is 70% , so you actually did well that night. hope this helps ! 🚀

Sounds like you need to drop the humidity in the whole room if you can. A dehumidifier is likely the only real solution, but you might improve things a bit if you can increase circulation throughout the rest of your place in the meantime.

Thanks for great quick replies!! @souljasam - Yes, I do run them 24/7, I left an open window during night here, so maybe it increased my humidity levels, I'll pop one of those humydry packets to start lowering this, I can't afford a humidifier right now, maybe next month. @Tastecraft - Thanks for the input! I run my exhaust 24/7, so humidity of the room is almost as the same as inside the tent, very little variation. So I think I need to invest on controlling the humidity of most of my place, or start running the exhaust on timer and controlling only tent's humidity. What do you think? @The_420 - Thanks for the reply! I think my temps are spot on, so I think my focus now should be fixing RH. I have exhaust 24/7, so normally my place's RH is the same as inside tent. I don't know what happened yesterday to find this 76% RH, maybe an open window and some climate variation here. I'm using those humydry packets to try to control the RH here, at least until I buy a dehumidifier. I have no windows on my grow room, so it's pretty tricky to control humidity and air circulation.

Those fluctuations are perfectly normal but there the battle begins..I had the same problem on my first grow I’m growing in my basement so the Rh is always higher then in other rooms so i placed a dehumidifier in basement at Rh 40% all the time when in bloom so when the lights go off my exhaust sucks in dry air In a few weeks a second tent will be added to my setup for veg so I’m probably gonna buy a new smaller dehumidifier witch I can place in my bloom tent because the veg tent likes the high Rh of my basement I hope this was of some use to u ✌️Happy growing and stay safe 🌱

Hey buddy :-) the ideal value is 20-26 degrees celcius and 65-70% humidity in the vegan phase during the day. at night at 18-23 degrees celcius. If you have too much humidity in the bloom afterwards, there may be problems with mold. The cheap variant is then 1 or 2 extra fans with in the tent that the moist air does not stop. the more expensive but better is to make the exhaust air extremely large and to regulate it down with a step transformer. Keep it up you do it perfectly 👌👍😎

Your lights on/off temps are totally fine. The lights on humidity is maybe a little high but not too bad. The lights off humidity is an issue. Do you run your exhaust fan 24/7? If not you should. If you do it sounds like you need to use a dehumidifier to drop your overall humidity levels.
