Hey friend. A stone that develops the smallest air bubbles is the way to go. Maximum dissolved oxygen in water is 62 to 68° and small air bubbles will put the most oxygen to your plant. You absolutely need this in dwc for vigorous roots growth and health and also vigorous plant growth. Great big root system and pound producing plants. If you run warmer temps youll have smaller plants and nuggies, like some others that grow poorly. Cheers friend

You want a good pump. A good pump without an airstone will produce plenty of oxygen for the roots. People do feel better with a stone still, but pretty much any one will do the trick. For the best dispersion, use a long stick type. Probably 8" will be perfect.

It's the pump the diffuser don't matter so much as the pump.. Any quality Marine grade air stone will do.. Follow the instructions.. Soak it first.. But the air pump is where all the magic comes from. You can have small stones... Big pump..
