Watering too much at once vs runoff?

‚Watering when soil is 2,5 cm dry‘:I read the soil should never be ‚swamp‘ wet after watering, yet I also read that the run off needs to be tested regularly - but watering till water runs off does make the soil muddy. Can there be too much water at once if the soil Is dry on top?

If you are using fabric pots generally you don't have to worry about overwatering. You can water until run off this is fine but you want to make sure it dries nicely afterwards which could take up to a few days. Make sure your drainage is good and that water is not sitting.
