Strange root growth. What is it?

Just noticed this strange root growth late in flowering. It's firm and spongy in consistency. Is this normal?

Hey the roots that you are referring to looks like some new small roots coming in. The colour will be off for them as they are pretty fresh. Your plant is looking great. Great job

Mold between the pots and on the soil's surface, should I be worried ?So my pots are very close to one another so they can't breathe enough but my space is quite limited and in veg maybe there was not enough extraction. Root aphids in flowering?What I initially thought was a nutrient issue I am now convinced is a root aphid issue.
