You can experiment on growing techniques as you are the one deciding when it starts flowering (try doing a main-lining on an auto...😉). As you mentioned, there are also more strains available. I tend to find the photoperiod more potent too.
If starting the seed from 12-12 is just to have it the quickest possible, I would not do it. It is better for the plant to go through a vegetative stage and get stronger, you will be rewarded with a better quality and stronger yields.
I would anyway recommend to grow at least once a photoperiod, regardless of electricity costs.
