When is the start of “veg” from seed?

Is it as soon as the leaves pop? Or once it starts putting on side branches? I usually let them start in solo cups and after 4 weeks, I transplant them to larger pots to start “week 1” of veg. Is that cheating? Lol

Hello. I think you only time you have to worry about cheating is; when the contest rules say so. I think the solo cup contest had a rule saying only 4 weeks of veg. If you had entered that contest you would have been cheating. But you can do what ever you want when there are no rules. For me the veg cycle starts after the first leaves come out and I'm giving food for the first time. That way I know that the seed has used up all its reserve of protein/fat it has stored in its shell to sprout with, and is ready to grow/veg. So unless there is a rule, you run your diary the way you want. Good Luck. Chuck.
