I did a successful harvest of runtz muffin and took cuts, now the cuttings at day 18 of flower i noticed balls. This was down to very low night temps 12C and day temps of 26. Now do I throw away all the other cuts I have off those or use them taking more care? Options please👍

If these cuts came from a solidly harvested plant showing no signs of hermie then most certainly.... NO! Do not toss your other cuts. Odds are good that this one cutting was an oddball that was induced into hermie as a result of some sort of stressor. Or it simply couldn't generate roots the same way or as well as the others. It does happen and you're definitely best to toss it than to risk accidental exposure to the others if she starts spitt'n pollen. And re: temp swings - this isn't necessarily the reason or the stressor. I run everything in my basement cabinets under those kind of temp. swings - seeds and clones in all mediums. I've actually found it has significant benefits that add to a little variability in the environment. Keeps the pampered plants on notice that they've still gotta work! LOL. Either way, you're good with the others but I would keep a close eye on 'em only for the potential that you're mother's genetics may have had a little hermie in it that just didn't show previously.

Temperature has nothing to do with it. It certainly is very strange though. The other cuttings would need monitoring, but are not ready for the scrap heap, just yet. I like the bud whisperers theory about how there may have been a latent trait for hermaphroditism in the plant that was previously unexpressed and that the process of taking cuttings has somehow induced this trait to surface. Perhaps the chemicals in the rooting powder/gel/liquid which contains hormones, also played a part. This is really a fascinating event. This is also an example of when I say to people that when growing cannabis, you will never stop learning! Perhaps a geneticist could shed some light on this strange mystery, but maybe it could also go into the "these things happen from time to time" basket. Would have loved to have seen pictures. I think I also now have a little side project to occupy my little mind! Thanks for sharing this unique experience with the Grow Diaries community, I am sure there are a lot of people scratching their heads over this wonderful question. Cheers,... Organoman. 😲

If the mother was all female all the way to harvest then the clones would be too and if one has hermed then my understanding is its due to stress (i think cold could do it) if the others were not exposed to the stress then they should be fine and even if they all were exposed to the cold i don't think its likely they would all herm all at the same time i would watch them individually before i made any rash decisions

To make it clear I discarded the plant showing balls but I still have 12 small cuts off that plant I was planning on using. I find it strange that the successfully harvested plant the cuts came from showed no hemi traits yet the cuts threw balls. Was I just stressing them too much? Should I discard all the other cuts?

Arghhh I feel ya! This is tricky... I’ve done both— killed off the plant and also grew it out under a very watchful eye. The balls usually come between 2-5 weeks of flower—- I might just lollipop it some more and watch it carefully—- especially since you had a successful harvest and just chalk it up to stress... good luck ✌️🏻💚🌿
