Ive only grown a handful of plants but gave up on trying to avoid red stems. Ive gone through multiple lights and nutrients and all sorts of stuff. And for the few plants I did grow trying to fix it, it seemed to kill it. My current and last plant both had/have red stems and they both seem otherwise healthy. Last plant had 35 grams that im smoking now and tastes fine and has a quality high. Im a newbie grower but from my own experiences so far I see no issue with red stems so long as the plant is otherwise healthy, taking in water, and kept in stable conditions.

I too wonder why people stress about the smallest bit of trivial crap. There are strains called "XYZ Red Stem" which is perfectly normal, obviously. I don't think there are many growers on this forum who have ever grown outdoors and base their "knowledge" on artificial growing conditions, indoors, and with "Princess Perfect" mentality. Other things that make me wonder are all the "what is wrong with this leaf" type of questions every time there is a tiny splotch or the slightest odd blade. Being mostly inexperienced and not seeing many plants, combined with the strange idea that EVERYTHING must be PERFECT, creates a lot of growers with over inflated ideals who have no real understanding of basic plant biology or normal variations in cannabis cultivation. Purple stems are perfectly normal with some strains and is not sun burn or a sun tan. Purple colouration of flowers and leaves are either genetically controlled or as a result of climatic conditions in late flowering, cool nights and mild days the reason for the colour change. Cheers and congratulations on being a free thinker and not a sheep blindly believing everything they watch on youtube. ,..... Organoman. 😎👍😎

It is a response to light. Genetics (phenotype). Nutrient levels and temperature(theory). I have a Violeta and her buds are purple all over and her stems are not purple or discolored. Genetics in this case.. But then I have a tutankomon beside her and she only haves a few purple leaves and purple patches. If you looked at the whole structure of the tutankomon you would see a lot of purple is Up top where the most light is and the middle to lower canopy has virtually no purple.. I don't have temperature swings big enough in my tents to have an opinion or idea on what Temperatures do to colors. So my two biggest factors influencing color in my tents are Genetics and Light. If your growing outdoors or have larger temperature swings then you may experience different observations of color change.

It's almost always sunburn. Like you said, when it is, it's only the tops of the stems that go red. If it's P or K deficiency, the stem will turn red all the way around.
