You could, but results are not the best.
Rather than getting two plants, you end up with two half plants, due mainly to competition for light, root space, water and nutrients.
Roots are extremely fast to grow and no matter how far apart the plants are in the same pot, they will soon be crowding each other out space.
Much better to have individual pots so each plant gets its own space, supply of nutrients and water.
It is a bit like sleeping with a dog on your bed, somehow you always end up with hardly any blankets or space, teetering on the verge of falling out of bed, as it is with two plants in one pot, the faster growing one will push the other one to the edge of usable space in the shared pot, all the while competing for EVERYTHING.
