Watering seedlings help

Dankbudz84

I have 17 hours since potting the seedlings. White widow and purple kush both autos. I just used a spray bottle to moisture the soil. I don’t want to over water them how can I make sure they have enough water especially now that the tsw3000 is 36 inches. This is my first grow.

Just make sure it stays wet, but not too wet. The mister is a good idea, but don't be so worried about overwatering that you don't give them enough water to crack. It really takes some trial and error before you get used to the proper moisture content. BTW, nice light for a first grow!

Firstly, remove the bottles, seedlings need good air exchange for proper growth. You also risk cooking your seedlings in those mini "sweat lodges". Cannabis is not a rain forest plant and does not need extra humidity, only clones do at first due to not having any roots. Too much humidity and you risk mould/fungal problems and high humidity is an antiquated notion from the 1960s when no one really knew how to grow pot. Secondly, misting is useless and completely inadequate. Just remember, your plants roots will be as long or longer (generally longer) than what your seedling is tall. Therefore you need to water enough so it gets down to that depth and a bit further, roots will not grow into dry soil. Your substrate has so much inert perlite in it, that there is never any risk of over watering, it is physically impossible with that much perlite. Perlite really only needs to be around 5% max of any mix for cannabis, it is a man made product and has absolutely no nutritional value. The more soil and less perlite your mix has, the longer your plants will grow without the need for extra feeding. It is also important to water rather wide around your plant to encourage lateral root growth, thus building a stable "anchoring" base for your plant. Small amounts of mainly surface watering as when misting, only encourages weak and shallow roots that don't support the plant properly or encourage the roots to explore and find nutrients and water. Giving a cup or so would not be unreasonable, but watering only once the first inch of the soils' surface is dry again, is the most widely accepted watering routine. It is nice to aim for a substrate that is evenly moist, but not too dry or too wet, the "Goldilocks" zone. This will require a bit of careful observation as to how fast your mix dries out and your plants water requirements, but once you get a handle on it, it will become second nature as to when and how much to give your plants. It won't happen overnight, but it will happen, as you continue on this journey of cultivation zen. Hope this helps,........ Organoman.

Try watering in a ring 4 inches or so away from the seedling, the moisture will get to your seedling without the danger of drowning. You can use hydrogen peroxide to minimise the risk of'damping off' ,Just till 2nd set are out. Water your seedling direct with this method. (most foolproof, and what I use to get Auto' seedlings bedded in to large pots.
