Benzelsanswered grow question 3 years ago If your in soil, silica isnt needed much as soil is made up of large amounts of silica most of the time (unless ur soil is peat or coco based). So go easy on it, dont use it all the time and wait til plant is about 4 -6 weeks old before using it. Ive never used silica in soil in my life and dont intend to. But in hydro its magic stuff. Same with Cal mag unless your in coco/peat, u wont need much of it, and not very often either to start with. Use the lower suggested dose and only once a week or even less often if plants look ok.
Use the fox farm nutes at 1/3 or 30% strength while plants are young. Water with plain water, then next time plain water again, then feed with nutes, then next two times plain water and then nutes ect ect..Do this first month. then go to 50% strength nutes. with same watering/feeding plan.
For first feed, use just the fox farm nutes at 1/3rd strength and half strength Cal Mag. Thats it. then water the next two times and then same mix again. U can add Silica if u like when its getting nearer to flower if you want, but it wont make much diff in soil during veg.
And agree its always easier to switch one of those plain water for a feeding if plants look like they need it so using weaker nutes is the way to go ok. Unless im in hydro I never ever use full strength nutes. Even in flower I run 50% strength bloom nutes in soil ok.
