Making Feminized Seeds

Hey everyone:) I have a question about making your own feminized seeds: So if you use colloidal silver to force a female plant to make pollen, why do I have to apply the pollen on a second female plant? Isn't it possible that the now hermaphrodite plant pollinates itself?

Fertilizing the same plant with its own pollen will be inbreeding, leading to possible recessive genes recombining to become dominant genes, leading to possible undesirable traits becoming new "features" in the offspring. In human terms, it would be a bit like having children with your brother/sister. Basically you need pure parental plants. A mixture of sodium thiosulphate and silver nitrate is a far more reliable way of inducing sex reversal than using colloidal silver. Which ever you use, wear gloves at all times and it is probably safest not to consume any flowers from the treated plant that you induced sex reversal in. Much better to have some cuttings to reverse and use for your pollen source. Hope this helps,......... Organoman.

You can let her pollinate herself. I think when most people make seeds, they are looking to create a new strain and for that you need a second plant.

Most people just like a branch or 2 seeded. If you want the entire plant seeded then as the sacs are opening put a good fan on and let it blow towards the plant you want pollinated. Cheers
