Personally I have never used ready made kits but I have heard and seen good things from them. The kits take out all the awkward work, sterilising your substrates, using an isolation box for inoculation. The important thing about mushroom is they are not photosensitive like plants. They don't need sunlight to grow, only to point the direction to grow. If you're buying a ready made kit, the only thing you need to worry about is temp and humidity. temp depends on what kind of mushroom your are growing but they all need 80-100% humidity. Make the substrate too wet they die, too dry they die. Perfect field capacity i what you're looking for. Feel free to pm me if you would like to ask more about mushrooms.

Hi mate, dextrose will work just fine. It is still a sugar that can be used for compost tea. I use it myself for my mushroom cultivation. As I'm using it slightly differently, I would just keep any eye on your mix when using as it may speed or slow down your teas progress. I hope this helps, good luck and happy growing
